If you are thinking of getting this game, GET IT! It actually exceeded my expectations and I fell in love with it. I am a huge Castlevania SOTN fanatic and this game nailed it. It moves like SOTN but has its own charm, story, game play aspects. Only thing that bothers me is how little coverage such a good game like this gets but hey thats gaming nowadays. No updating or micro transactions needed just pure art

But why so short? Seems like a tease because im so sure of its quality. Love luna nights and have been waiting for years for something even close to sotn. Iga couldnt do it now we have it and its a 4 hr game. Gutted lol
9:21 - a little secret found.
In the middle of this room there is a pillar, jump about 50 times to the ground to open it and reveal a secret room, which contains a Soul Cruncher.
Not gonna lie, thought this was a typical internet “gotcha”..but it actually worked! Aside from the obvious “Soul Crusher” hilt blended right there into the environ below the pillar. Thank you!
The middle pillar has a QR code on it. Reads "Continue standing here to break". Not sure if jumping is required, but I was amazed when I saw the QR code and it worked!
@@buhamutlotde7869 Indirectly, it is necessary to jump, since standing still does not break the ground.

@@DGneoseeker1 Yes, you really need to jump about 50 times. Like I said, just standing on top doesn't force the ground to break.
I grew up playing the dreamcast game religiously and SOTN religiously. Finding this game was like a nostalgic orgasm. SUPREME!!!!!!
I highly recommend watching the OVA/Anime it's based on. Record of Lodoss War is amazing. It's literally a D&D Campaign turned into an anime. I'm not kidding.
@@micshork I watched the original anime back in 1990 when i was 10, left me with a huge impression until now. Not only the anime was great, their OST were awesome too.

See THIS is a perfect example of how to do level design, lighting. Notice the size of the character is at a perfect ratio to the floor and ceiling. Notice the scope and size of the level, room by room, is not so open, wide, and enormous that is makes the character and all of their actions feel small, and out of focus. Other Metroidvania games have FAILED at level design so badly and it worries me that people still play those games. As if running back and forth on a flat 2d plane with no variation is fun. Notice this game has a tight floor to ceiling ratio, and character ratio to that. It's perfect. It's the golden ratio of SOTN. Obviously a heavily SOTN inspired game here. Also the lighting is good here. I know there is different art styles in other games, but no matter the art style the game you design should not rely on lighting effects in unity, or unreal. It should be purposeful and better off done by hand. 2d games shrouded in darkness are no fun. Unless it's limbo. I can tell this is going to be one of my favorite Metroidvania games.
This game uses the same engine and sound effects of Touhou Luna Nights. I hope Team Lady Bug gets commission to do a Metroidvania based on the Saint Seiya franchise next!

Can't say enough about how great this game is.
I just couldn't get into it. Maybe because I knew nothing about Lodoss War, but it felt like a poor man's SOTN. Then again, maybe that's too high a bar to hold any metrovania too
It makes me want to watch Record of Lodoss war now also, this looks real good.
I really wish there was another anime like Lodoss War. Just a straight forward medieval fantasy with good storytelling and animation. No isekai, no reincarnated as yada yada, no overused Shonen tropes. Just good stuff.
Cast the invisible spell in the corner and most bosses will attack the decoy making most bosses really easy

And in fact they didn't. The developers are pretty open with their references. Also, Konami made sure to kill Castlevania, so that's a good thing that other developera are trying to keep the spirit of Castlevania alive.

The thing is Deedlit has been around a lot longer than SOTN. All of her animations and movement were based off of the OVA. One can say Alucards movements were taken from her.
Thanks for this. That end boss-rush frustrated me too much. Now I've seen the ending, and I still have little idea what this game was all about. In true anime fashion. Was still a fun game.

I had never heard of this game til about 3 days ago. It's now the first video game that I have ever pre-ordered OR imported in my life (preordered from PlayAsia, for the Nintendo Switch. I think the release date is mid Dec).

...and it did come w/ a soundtrack album as well as some sort of booklet. This is my first time importing a game, in spite of being a middle aged video game guy. This is also my first purchase from PlayAsia, so I have no clue if the soundtrack CD & booklet are "normal" add-ons when ordering from them or what.

It's a pretty good game, It's not in the level of SOTN in terms of scale and secrets but by all means it's pretty good still.

This is exactly how I want to do the game, of the comic I am working on. It takes place though, in the year 2187 after some crazy crap happened starting in 2037, which lead to wars the 2060's. So a post apocalyptical, sci-fi fantasy Earth. There is a lot of influence from manga I read growing up, like Battle Angel Alita, and Bastard. Movies, Universal Soldier, Blade Runner, Terminator. Then games like Panzer Dragoon (It's music mostly), and Dark Savior, even music from Fear Factory lol, Biblical, and mythology from different cultures.
Though I'd love for the game to play like this, I'd want it looking more like Guilty Gear. Main character Kaiden, his real name is K-N6MAA10816, with K meaning "Kaidan", which is how he was described by his creators, he is called Kaiden, by a mercenary who later takes care of him, and trains him as a child soldier. He is supposed to be a super soldier type, artificial human called a "Zayin", which in Hebrew just mean's "weapon". The other two characters are of his same race, but he is different, and considered an "Einsamer Krieger" type, which are really nasty when grouped with others of like, but most of his type are deaders lol. The other is a female Ninja Asazakura (she is often just called Asa), which is actually created with the spirit of a Kodama of a cherry Blossom tree, she's got the elf ears as well, as her creator in the story loved Elven lore..
Though in real life, Record of Lodoss War, is one of my most favorite anime, and so she is inspired from Deedlit, Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII, and Oyuki from Dagger of Kamui... With a tiny dash of Mai Shiranui lol, all of her abilities have to do with Cherry Blossoms, and just things in spring. The other is somewhat of a cyberpunk-ish Samurai, heavily inspired from the historical figure Yasuke, which is also his name. They all have their own abilities/items found specifically for them, some of which are best for certain fights, or solving puzzles, you can switch between them. ^_^

@@thunderken1808 Thanks! Just left my job to devote full time to this project. My trading is successful enough to where I am fortunate to not need my old job anymore (and it's gotten too crazy). My brother also does the same thing, and is helping with the project.

Wow, I finished this and sexy brutale on the same day. Kinda eerie, how they have very similar endings.
I caved in on the recent $15 steam sale. I usually only spend $10 for game, and I still think I should have paid $10. I feel like it would be better if I could actually stunlock the enemies instead of them just ignoring my attacks whenever they feel like it. Otherwise, it's beautiful and truly period-correct as oppose to the many faux retro games that are being put out nowadays.
Did it not have a variable ending screen at the end of the credits of Dedlit in a tree, either set during the day or during the night? I saw a guide that mentioned this and the screen's unknown day/night variation.
I just got a "The End" screen same as this uploader. Did the devs remove it from the final release, or are there specific conditions that trigger that ending screen?

Just found out about this game today. This is the game I wanted bloodstained to be. This nailed sotn more than bloodstained did. I’m so happy I found this closest we will get to sotn on the switch until if ever Sony stops being pricks.

I don't know how I got so far and yet I have no clue what I missed. I can't open any gold locks on doors. Yet I got the spirit key. And all I can think is maybe it unlocks that blue door I saw...but can't remember where...I've been wandering around aimless . so here I am. lol great game tho. I highly recommend playing this on a CRT TV like I'm doing. I'm playing it on a Sony Trinitron from the 90s and it looks beautiful like a true symphony of the night. The graphics look so bland and dry until they are on a CRT then bam full shading and details and it really looks like a real castlevania game not just a homage. @1:21:04 this is what I missed! Lol

Welp. Tried playing it today. First time in my life that I just gave up the game because of the music. Liked the graphics enough and the gameplay though generic was fine. That OST sounds like hot garbage covered in queefs. Uninstalled. Never sacrifice the music in a metroidvania.
Yea the music, menu sounds and sound effects are so jarring.
They had Dirk Diggler in the studio making 80s pop rock but that didn't work out either...

So what? It's called (sub)genre, there will always be more than one game for each genre (it's like complaining at the 100th FPS or action game)
