  • Kickboxing is one of the arts I have trained in the most and the K1 rule set is my favourite to train/spar/fight, here I go through some alternate ideas on utilising low kicks to damage the lead leg of your opponent.

    A bit of input if you don't mind that technique is known as the Chasse Italien (In Savate and Boxe Francaise) and strikes with the heel only, not the flat or ball of the foot, it also engages the hip more and also features a bit of a lean back. It is an incredibly devastating kick and could finish a fight by itself (in street self defense if wearing a shoe could easily dislocate the knee), but if you want to do it most defectively it comes at a slightly downward angle engages the thrust of the hip and a lean back. I've seen this more jabbing/slapping version before and I note if misses a few of the key mechanics of the more devastating version (this is also including how I've seen Jon Jones, Holly Holm, and other fighters in MMA use it.) It makes the kick annoying but takes away from the fight ending potential it really has. Now naturally this isn't the way you're going to drill it on a partner but it works well on the thai heavy bags and if you control is good and you place it a little bit higher you can better engage the hip and the slight lean. The lean back is accompanied by the support leg bending as well (another facet of Savate/Boxe Francaise low kicking) which will add a bit more bite. Hope you don't mind the input, I know I'm just another guy on the internet after all, but if you choose to believe me I have a pretty indepth understanding of Savate/Boxe Francaise and it's a wonderful and massively underutilized and under appreciated art. If for anything kicks like this and the front leg chasse bas (low side kick) which is also incredibly devastating, got a bit off topic but I think you get the idea, all the best.

      I don't think you have gone off topic at all and raise you some excellent points about it. The reason why I (and most MMA fighters similar to those you mentioned) utilise it in this way for sport competition is to ensure we are not left off balance when delivering the strike. The way you suggest is a stronger way of doing it (and is obviously the better way for defending yourself in a reality based encounter) but it also makes you have to commit more to the kick. If therefore you miss doing this you end up being off kilter and then more susceptive for strong counters, which is always something you have to be wary of in high level sporting encounters. I like using it on the bags as well. Thanks for taking the time to write such a well thought out and intelligent response, I do appreciate it! You describe it perfectly!! Thanks!

      It's also illegal under muay thai rules to use the side stomp, only the ball of the foot is legal, I don't agree with it in mma (jones does it a lot) @@warriorcollective

    a well presented, practical demonstration of the various low kick attacks available for the mixed martial artist. Fighters who are not from a martial arts background, wresting or boxing could quickly introduce these kicks into their fighting.

    great video. the low kick can also be used as a longer mid range kick with the back of the foot but need to lean back the body when taking step forward(can be as effective as straight forward round horse kick) or side step. for badass kick can side step or circle step to the side and use upper shin when low kick. Or step quite forward and then do axe kick.

    Really great tutorial! I don't really agree with the stompkick to the knee (though legal under some rulesets) and have seen people penalised for throwing it as it can be a potential career ender. It's always been a controversial technique and not surprised it's viewed as unsportsmanlike.

    • @warriorcollective
      @warriorcollective  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is a bit of a funny technique in that respect, hence for example why I suggested just aiming it higher when practising. It is a devastating kick so there are real consequences to using it but if you are competing under full contact rules it is definitely a good to tool to utilise. Glad you liked it regardless!

    How effective is the lead side kick to knee? And if you miss won’t that set you up to be kicked by thai boxer rear leg?

  • @andrewferris4539
    @andrewferris4539 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there a reason to knee stomp with your right leg off of parrying the jab as opposed to round housing at the start of the video other than for demonstration purposes? I can understand knee stomping off of parrying the cross because you have to cover the distance, but off of parrying the jab the knee stomp just seems slower than the roundhouse. Typically when you see the right knee stomp from Jones, it's as a direct attack vs a standing leg instead of as a counter to keep them out of the pocket - altho' a lot of people throw a jab, jab (hold for frame) into the knee stomp as a combo in order to stop the opponent from moving forward during the chamber and stuffing the attack.

  • @johnwillingham277
    @johnwillingham277 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    stuart tomlinson i had came up with this combo a few days ago with that low kick you were demonstrating as how i came up with it is where you throw that leg kick with the right then switch to the left leg quickly and turning it to a side kick to the body idk if that would be effective technique but seems promising i would think

    • @warriorcollective
      @warriorcollective  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the leg stomp but i am confused on why you didnt do it with your lead leg for quickness which is preventing a counter from that jab

    • @warriorcollective
      @warriorcollective  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question, me personally, I find it harder to use my lead leg to stomp with out another movement. As you can see in the video, I do go through a way of using it with an offline step. If the opponent was southpaw I would be more tempted to try and use it without any other movement! Glad you enjoyed the vid!

    that v step and low kick the back of the leg I love that will certainly be trying that when I spar next. I train in muay thai and kickboxing I spar with people who also do Jun fan gung-fu I always get caught with the stomp kick it's a deceiving kick and also throws me. what counter is there to that if any?

    • @warriorcollective
      @warriorcollective  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, you will have to let me know how you get on with that!! The stomp kick can be hard to read, see and defend against. One of the only really effective ways to deal with it is to make it miss. Either by stepping back or shortening your stance.

    • @neilnutley3854
      @neilnutley3854 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stuart Tomlinson I'm using the v step and low kick in all my sparring it's working great I find its working much better on people taller than me which is great for me as I was having trouble with that. not now.. and great that's for getting back i will try and read the stomp a bit more or learn it and use it against them. cheers.

    4:55 is that not slightly telegraphic? Ie taking 2 moves to complete the kick always seems telegraphic ? It’s like the switch kick can be very telegraphic and easy read, due to its 2 move execution, in some k1 they use the pendulum lead round house which is less telegraphic and always scored but lacks the power of the switch kick

    • @fordfiesta16v93
      @fordfiesta16v93 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This technique is illegal in some combat sports but in the ones where it is allowed, striking to the knee is legal. It is a potentially damaging shot though so care needs to be taken if being utilised in sparring or practise!

    • @theatlantean39
      @theatlantean39 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It shouldn't even be used in competition. Only in real life self defense situation. I only oblique kick as more of a check because I do not get off on injuring people.
