Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari railway line doubling. Minister of railways, communications and electronics and information technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Lok Sabha in response to a question by MPs Adoor Prakash and Shashi Tharoor that work of development of a new coaching terminal at Nemom has been sanctioned in April this year at a total cost of Rs 116.57 crore. The work has been sanctioned as per the updated detailed project report (DPR) submitted by Southern Railway in 2022-23 after completing the comprehensive study, he said. The Nemom terminal development works were carried out after the state government and representatives of various political parties brought the matter to the attention of the Union ministry of railways following the protests that took place when the news of the terminal being lost was confirmed. There was an assurance from the ministry of railways that it would be expedited.
