William Shatner is well into his 90s now, older than most people get to be. We're lucky to still have this Star Trek icon still with us. I spent 28 years in the US Navy -- the last seven at the rank of Captain, largely because of Shatner's Kirk. God bless you, Bill.
I find Shatner, himself, to be at least as interesting and complicated a character as any he's ever played. May he continue to boldly go for many years to come!
As much as people deride Shatner's acting at times, I think he's one of the best actors in the TOS cast. Mu favorite acting from him was his "I need my pain" monologue in ST5.
I dunno, I think there were other actors in the TOS cast much more natural and comfortable on camera (with similarly powerful scenes), DeForest Kelley, for instance, or any scene with Nichelle Nichols--and I'm purposely avoiding mentioning LN because I don't think he's the only other strong actor.
I was one of the privileged VIP's present at the screening in Culver City, CA of "You Can Call Me Bill," and I too came away very impressed with Mr. Shatner's take on the universe and his being in it. I also had the opportunity to see his 1-man comedy show at Cache Creek Casino where he didn't mention Star Trek at all. We ALL tend to think of him as only Capt Kirk, but I've seen 1st hand how vast his personas can be. Thank you, Bill, for everything! May you Live Long and Prosper!
I've been really impressed by Shatner, the way he seems to have turned his ego into a tool for thoughtfully examining the world through the lense of his career
Yeah,I have to agree, here! It’ll be sad 😞 when William Shatner passe’s away! But,I’ll alway’s remember him for his character of;Captain Kirk. It’s amazing 🥲that he’s doing so much at age 92,I believe he is?It remind’s me of my mom.🧑 She had a dance 💃 studio and a career until age;89,and then she passed away.
Thanks so much for this video! Always love your posts and I will definitely watch You Can Call Me Bill since I missed it in theaters, sadly. Good job, Trek Culture!! 👏👏
When the day comes that he passes, it'll be a bigger thing than any royalty, so few people these days leave their mark on people's lives like he has, whether as inspiration or irritation, people across the world know him, it'll be a very sad day when he finally arrives in his undiscovered country...
A few years back I was fortunate enough to catch his one man show 'Shatner's World' - this reminded me of that. I came away from that show with a new respect for his skill as an entertainer: he seemed to direct the audience's emotions where he wanted them to go, like a conductor directs an orchestra. Instead of coaxing more strings or woodwinds, he seemed to be able to guide everyone through laughter, melancholy, introspection - it was a very singular experience (in both senses of the word). Whilst I recall how it felt, I've no clear idea of how he achieved it.
That intro you played - that described his humour and his acting chops very well indeed. Imagine how much nerve that took! As he said, what if they hadn't got it? But he won them over in moments. Thank you for sharing it with us, as well as the rest of the video.
Shatner made me a Trek fan as a young lad, Kirk was THE MAN💯! He's a terribly underrated actor, and it really bugs me listening to all these kid fans bashing him, like they'd even know about Trek if not for him.

I also want to be a tree. I've often said that when I die, I want to be cremated and have my ashes buried where a tree is planted. A bench can be placed under the tree with my vitals etched into it. Huge fan of Star Trek and Shatner had an important part to play in the creation of it. That being said, he can’t sneeze without having to write a book and documentary where he chronicles his harrowing ordeal and his superb leadership skills that successfully allowed him to transfer snot to a tissue. …and then selling the tissue to a rich mark for a million dollars.
It took a long time for him to realize that Star Trek and the crew they ALL created was NOT A JOKE! He never before took it seriously. This could live as long as Shakespeare, how many actors can claim this?
I was able to see the premiere with William Shatner appearing. I came away thinking it was impactful for anyone to see this film and understand more about life in general and actors.
In my later life, I've gotten defensive of people who imitate Shatner's style. Early in life, it bothered me less because I thought it was something to do with his acting style, but that's not what it is. He doesn't seem to see the mannerisms because those appear to be his unconscious behaviours as a person, not affectations. Which means most times when people are "doing Shatner" they're actually just mocking a ninety year old man, and I'm not comfortable with that.
I always thought that when the Enterprise B was saved and it seemed Kirk died a heroic death, saving the ship and many lives is where it should have ended for that character.
Nice PR bit on Shatner. However, I first met Bill on the set of TJ Hooker. Again on his underrated album 'Has Been'. His creation of 'Undiscovered Country' perfectly exemplifies his arrogant self aggrandizing persona, believing that everything he touches is amazing only because of his involvement. His greatest skill is in covering his ass when he screws up, and rewriting his place in history. He's an incredible person, but the real Shatner is closer to Trump or a used car salesman than the person you believe him to be. And his beat up pickup truck story is an invention from long after. Knowing how skilled he is at redefining his life and experiences, I honestly took his recent space flight and his following speech as a yet another of his long history of PR manipulations.
the fact no one on the crew liked himever, but nemoy... whom came to hate him too after bill went against his wishes, say more about bill than bill can ever say about inflated himself
“Star… WARS?” 😂 I appreciate how much he’s able to have a laugh at his own expense like that.

With some luck Bill will live as long as Bones in the next gen. We can hope.
“It was…fun!”
“The Oldest Living Human.” Very specific! Are you inferring older people have been in space but as corpses?
Redwood is the new Rosebud.🖖
I'm glad we get a chance to see the real William Shatner and not the MYTH! He is indeed a living legend!
0:39 You forgot “Rescue 911”.
20:35 that's not Kirk, that's Janice Lester! :P
I will always wonder what could have been if Star Trek's season 4 renewal decision had been after the moon landing.
Well, now I Won't waste my time watching it. I can be depressed on my own, thank you very much.
Perhaps he should have said 'Oh my.' in the style of George Takei.
Bill (might) was so upset when the greatest poker player ever, Worf, started loosing games after, "The Emissary."
The title of this documentary is a direct quote from the film “Free Enterprise” (1999) written by Robert Meyer Burnett and Mark A. Altman.
What Elvis Presley is to rock & roll, that is what William Shatner is to Star Trek
I always thought that when the Enterprise B was saved and it seemed Kirk died a heroic death, saving the ship and many lives is where it should have ended for that character.
We should all have William Shatner's lust for life & energy.
Hey! I just read the article!
Let's see if the two line up, because that's apparently a thing now.
The one and only Captain James T Kirk.
