My favorite bit of trivia about Liquid Smoke: in my freshman year of college, I got an internship as a research assistant for a grad student, and she was studying the reproductive cycle of this endangered scrub bush that only grows on northeast USA coast around Cape Cod because its root structure was really important for natural erosion prevention. Anyways. The seeds would only germinate upon exposure to smoke, so the experiment she ran during the school term was to just...soak the seeds in Liquid Smoke and see how much it took to trigger the start of their growth process. It worked too!
@@sparrow4572tbh prolly worth it. i once made cherry syrup and forgot to remove the pits so i got mild cyanide poisoning but man. cherry wood smoked ice cream sounds so good
I love the encouragement to make the recipe with the tree of your choice. Never thought I'd be wanting to make wood ice cream, but here we are! 😅 The ice cream sounds delicious and the bowl is beautiful!
The “what’s in that pile” series has been lots of fun to watch! I remember recently you got honest about what kind of content to make, I think this hits the bullseye. Keep ‘em coming, please!
The dish looks so pretty, I love how mountain mahogany looks. The idea of making a smoky ice cream reminded me of lapsang souchong, this really woodsy black tea.
Your new short for this made me come here and watch the full video. I know you’re trying to get more people to watch the full length and you succeeded! Keep it up! 😊
Wow that hollowing was smooth and beautiful, the shavings looked almost like plastic. Super well done, the form of the dish and spoon go so nice together.
Hey! I love your work, and I hope you continue to make the best chatoyancy vids! Never stop doing your best and keep exploring different woods for us, and we’ll keep liking and subscribing. -Scopes78
mixing two things that seem like magic, ice cream making and woodworking! amazing! not gonna lie, you've inspired me to start some small projects (mainly woodburning and carving) myself, and i've been using some of your tips in the video, so thanks for that!
This is wonderful! I don’t know why I have watched more of your long form videos before! I loved how the bowl came out and the ice cream looked amazing too. 10/10
God, that's a gorgeous dish - honestly I think this mahogany is more beautiful than the typical mahogany that furniture is made of, all those variations are just lovely
God, I love this channel. It's just to comfy, and it's super fun to watch how you try new recipies everytime and tell about pretty interesting types of trees. Keep it up, man
You finely got me- I’ve watched all your shorts asking me to come over to the channel and u always stood strong- but my curiosity got the better of me, and I’m so glad it had!
Had the chance to catch your stream and wasn't expecting the full unedited process to be so interesting. I hope you get the chance to do it again soon.
This is incredible!!! I love watching your videos and learning about different wood. I actually just started to learn about wood working and your channel has help a lot with decisions I needed to make. Keep up the incredible work and have a blessed weekend!
I rly rly rly hope he explores the world of making liquid smoke - he could make a bunch of varieties from the different types of wood he has in the pile!!
You could use a cocktail smoker or the idea of a cocktail smoker. Just light some of the shavings until smoldering then cover with a cold glass, the smoke condenses on the glass and flavors usually a drink. It would be a cool lemonade, maybe combined with spruce tips now that its spring
This was so interesting! Thank you for your creativity and the way you share it with us. I love smoked things, never thought about ice cream now I have to try 😋
I was looking forward to this video since the teaser on IG. I knew you were making smoked something but didn't consider ice cream! Also that bowl is incredible looking! The wood is beautiful!
I've been following you along for some time now, mainly for the wood turning since I myself started doing it a little over a year ago and as a mid 20 something I find your content enjoyable. With that said, I really do enjoy your longer content and your attitude about wood turning is amazing since I know from personal experience how frustrating it can be. Anyway, I have to say, that this looks to be one of your best pieces in my opinion, and you definitely did that wood justice sanding it to such fine grit! Well done.
Wow, that sounds really good... thanks for the video. Love the spoon design as well btw. As a fellow spoon carver, well done. Love the bowl too - amazing colours.
Woooowww this piece today...I cannot believe how beautiful the colors are in that wood, I am in absolute awe and love! 😍😍😍 so smooth and rich in color. I wonder if that kind of tree is the same as the kind on top of my favorite mountain, Humphreys 🤔 I would buy that bowl! Great job
Thought I'd share since you put out that poll a few weeks ago asking about who watches your short and long term content. I had answered that I only watch your shorts but have since been watching a lot of your long videos.
even before sanding and polishing, the bowl was already surprisingly shiny and smooth! i think thats really neat, it’s not something i see from a lot of woodturning videos :O
Justin, this week has been hectic to say the least. It was my last week of school, I'm having some personal issues with myself and it's affecting my relationships around me, and I'm just exhausted by the world. I'm telling you all of this to say thank you. You truly bring a little light to my day, even if I only get to escape for 7 minutes or so... It's worth it and I'll never get tired of it. It's so much fun to see you make things and I love watching your creativity flourish. It helps me want to create more and be who I'm supposed to be, I just wanted to say thank you and keep doing what you're doing. You're impacting my life, I hope that makes the yt grind just a little more worth it. Sincerely Ethan 🤠
I loooove all the ways you teach us to eat trees!! I might be moving soon but as soon as I'm in one place for a little while I'm going to start looking into local foraging resources - I really want to try some of the recipes you've shared!
I just had a conversation with friends recently about our favourite ice introduced him to your channel. I had to think of the pine nut oce, but thos topps it. I'll have to try this my self.
"but doesn't wood taste bad"? generic vanilla is mostly made from wood pulp! it's also the wooden casks that provide the vanilla notes in whiskey. there's a few trees with completely edible wood, too. people really shouldn't underestimate wood for flavor :)
You should make a cookbook with all the tree-centric foods and syrups you've done on here
This is a fantastic idea - especially with pictures of the trees and how to identify them 😂
PLEASE!!!
Yessss, I would definitely buy it
It would be a real tree't 😉
Second that

Tree seed germination requirements are fascinating indeed!
An excellent bit of trivia, indeed! Thanks for sharing!
Do you know the name of this bush? Im wondering if i mightve seen it before when I was in cape cod
@@lilyking8605 I don't know off the top of my head; I'll have to see if I have any info in my old files from back then.
@@Wolfesbrain oh sorry bout that. I tried looking it up but couldn't find anything
That actually sounds really good! Imagine a cherrywood smoked icecream with some bits of cherries and maybe almonds in it.
I think I would pass away from flavour.
I would eat it without the bits of cherries lol
Don’t know what happens when smoked, but cherry wood and pits contain a form of cyanide much like in apple seeds😅 it kills small animals pretty easily

This has me wanting to try making a very Texas twist on this, Mesquite or Pecan wood smoked ice cream with Habanero and Pecans.
Ooooo! Sounds excellent!
Habanero ice cream is so good!

Hold the habanero please 😆😆
There are actually many different types of spicy/savory ice creams some of which allegedly taste really good!

Yes!! I’d love for him to go through and try smoking different foods like tea leaves, burgers, mochi, etc.
That’d be a fun series!
I have to say I am genuinely enjoying the longer form content. The shorts drew me in but your approach to woodworking and otherwise is lovely to watch
Loved this video! Even the polished wood before the oil looked incredible. Are you planning on another livestream soon?
Thanks! And yes! Was too busy this week working on this video but hoping to find some time next week
Your new short for this made me come here and watch the full video. I know you’re trying to get more people to watch the full length and you succeeded! Keep it up! 😊
Wow, that bowl looks magical!
Wow that hollowing was smooth and beautiful, the shavings looked almost like plastic. Super well done, the form of the dish and spoon go so nice together.
Honestly, I'm not usually into carving wood, but that Mahogany is so beautiful I would love to have a thing or two made in that wood XD
tree flavouring has gotta be one of the most interesting ways of making foods with unique flavours
That dish is gorgeous!!! And the ice cream looks super good, I hope you enjoyed
Holy smokes, I love these videos 🥰🥰🥰
a chance to see mountain mahogany, a recipe, and the chickens, all in one episode! i’m so happy!
Would love to see a Purpleheart version!! That sounds delicious
Makin an Ice Cream yourself is already impressive, but then you add the flavouring, you are genius
Thanks!
This is the most informative Woodworking channel from the tree’s perspective
The colour of the wood is just chef's kiss
This is my favorite channel in all of TH-cam. You have no idea how much I enjoy watching your videos.
TH-cam never stops surprising me with the amazing content one can find. Excellent video!!!
That mountain mahogany is gorgeous. The color really is something else.
