This video got me to pull the trigger on my first surf rod. Got the 10'6 dna surf rod. Pairing with saltist 6500. My first outing on the East Coast this weekend. Tysm
Good stuff. I've been using the 7'6 DNA Back Bay with a Visser #4 with great results it's hella fun working top waters ..I'm contemplating upgrading my 10' surf rod to the Evolution 11' ..Thanks for the Video Tight lines
@@TriboroFishing they don’t make a 1-6, it’s a 2-6 but it might as well be a 1-6 because it throws below 2 oz all day….the 2-6 comes in a 10’6 and a 11’6. Not the fastest rod or longest casting but one of the most comfortable fish fighting rods I’ve ever used. I’ve landed fish up to 42 pounds on the 11’6 2-6….if I were to connect with a 50 pound striper the 10’6 3-8 frontier X would be right at the top of the list of rods I’d want to use. Absolute perfect balance of power, soft tip, and a nice moderate bend that locks up around the stripper guide of the rod and provides you with incredible power.
@@rainsong7327 my 9ft Evolution is more medium heavy and fast action compare the GSB which has medium fast action. I own a custom 8ft GSB and it’s a great rod.
Nice video lots of good information! I personally use the ODM Genesis 11” in the surf paired with VS 125b love the rods recovery and its ability to cast into the wind and handle heavy lures.
Why does everyone seem to go with the 11' genesis? How is the 10'? Does the extra foot change the characteristics of the rod? My first rod was the 9' mojo. It is super stiff. Just got the 8' DNA for my wife. Sweet little rod. A world of difference from the mojo. Looking between the DNA and Genesis for a 10 footer that can handle 3.5oz plugs with ease.
Stumbling on this video doing a bit of research on ODM rods. I have a certate lt5000d that I'll likely pair with a DNA. How is your certate balanced with the 9'? And how is the diawa holding up? Do you fish the surf with it?
I'll look into the Genesis rod lot more power and better build quality it has added anti-twist wrapping on top of the carbon nano. I don't use mine much I always end up using my vr50 with my gsb rod. But bspreks on TH-cam uses one on the daily.
Good content Good info you like the bgmq...any issues with the airbail alway been leary of the daiwa airbail wish they used solid wire I would own more daiwa reels if it were not for airbail.
ODM rods are for surfcasting and throwing plugs but if a had to choose one I’ll go with the Genesis model. I use tsunami trophy2 rods for chunking bait like bunker and there great.
Great video! Super informative! Do you run into any problems with the Genesis since it’s a 50/50 split? I’m stuck between the 10ft Genesis or the 10ft DNA.
I have no problems with the 50/50 split. I’ll go with the Genesis much better quality rod, especially the newer model is coming out soon. Tight lines 😎
Bro wait until you see the the second generation Genesis rods. I got to handle the 11’ 1-6 oz blank just yesterday and it’s a completely different animal. It’s basically a 50/50 split rod with the bottom half being nearly identical to the frontier X with the top being the softer Genesis action. The rod is definitely a little faster/more powerful than the original Genesis and not something I’d consider to be a true “moderate” rod (def more of a mod/fast now) and honestly feels faster than my frontier X 11’6 2-6. I also bought the 11’ 3-8 DNA because for $300 you won’t find a better all around canal rod with better components and I also use it for land based shark fishing alongside my jigster and Jigster extreme.
I picked up the new 10' genesis definitely my new favorite light plugging rod... debating having the 11 1-6 or 3/4-4 built as a 2pc alternative to my 11 evolution general purpose plugging rod.. odm definitely raising the bar also got a frontier x boat rod in the works for the kayak....
@@doge_fishing I understand. If you have the dough then by all means let it rip! I think it would be a great build for a 2 piece. I think it’s going to overlap with your evolution in terms of performance and what it throws nicely. I I just had a 10’ 3/4 - 5 evolution with titanium guides built for me by some fishing buddies as a gift for all the free plugs I’ve built for them lol….It’s paired with a VSX150 with the VSB handle/knob/hub and extended reel foot and it’s pretty much the perfect Cape Cod surf (not canal) setup for what I’m throwing and the spots I fish etc.
@@DanEvan I wish I had gone with the 10' Evolution probably would play better with my chronic elbow tendinitis but I was afraid the rods were overrated but the 11 amazingly throws through out its range with little effort. Waiting for my VR200 to show up shave a couple more ounces ounces off from the gossa that's on there. Problem is I fish a lot before and after work and hate leaving the Evolution on the rack all day. Besides I'm a gear junkies always tweaking setups, when I get my shed built I'll be back to building plugs which is a whole other problem.
@@TriboroFishing hey it is good question that you ask. I will be traveling to south east Asia. I’m planning to buy this jigging world travel rod $170. What do you think about jigging world rod? Are they reliable?
I think the vr175 might be to big and heavy for the 10ft dna. Maybe the vr125 but I will try out the outfit at the store and see how it feels. Thanks for watching
@@TriboroFishing I saw what looked like Bunker at first Street--the gulls were going crazy. Word has it, there's Bunker all over the Navasink but the Stripers just aren't awake yet.
Instead of having a family of rods and reels, why don't you just collect only a few rods and reels but in the expensive range? I know you have nice expensive reels such as Van Staal. But why would you need something like Saragosa, MQ and so on instead of buy more expensive reel and so on? Instead of going for Genesis, why don't you go for Frontier X and so on?
Hey there,… I’ve heard lots about ODM Rods… never owned one…,thought about it and even tried to order one or two … seems a bit hard to find it in conventional style… so I went with a St. Croix Avid Surf Caster 12’ med heavy fast action heaver … “Rocket Launcher “. I’ve never liked spinning setups….also spinning reels are out of control…! Pushing a $1,000 ….are you fucking kidding me…? Sure, they’re nice but not a $1,000 nice… no…! and you can’t do anything to improve it… except remove the bale, … here’s a question for some of you that don’t know… what the hell do you need a bale for…? Answer is: “ you don’t need one”….! That’s the only thing you can do to change anything on your spinner’s performance.. With conventional reels … you can install mags to control your cast … you can install precision bearings for very long silky smooth casts… much much further than “any” spinning reel…and so much more…! I stopped using spinners and bait altogether when I was 9 years old… I’m now 63 and I’m still whipping a 12’ conventional heaver and btw …. My reel is an ABU GARCIA 10000c Big Game and it’s over 50 years old … it looks and cast like it did the very first day … very functional high performance vintage reel to say the least…!

Just paired the DNA 7'6 back bay special with a vr50b sick combo
How are you liking this set up, I’m looking to try the same?
I got the 11’ Evolution and just got the 9’ Evo today. Like u I mostly use a 9’er, I’m really looking forward to trying it out tomorrow night 👍🏼👍🏼
The 9’ is dope your going to like it.
