    I love Tsunami rods. I have been buying them for years. Best bang for the buck. Although heavier, a shout out to my old Ugly Stiks

    John, thanks again for this video and many, many others. I picked up the Trophy II and matched it with a Penn Pursuit 5000 series this spring. This setup along with fishing on an outgoing tide at the mouth of one of Rhode Island's inlets led to landing my first slot striper. I'd already had a number of shorts on bucktails, SP minnows and soft plastics - this one came on the plastic.
    Now if I can just find out where the keeper fluke are reachable from shore I'll have dinner.

    I just got that same 8 1/2 ft rod when I realized mine was too heavy for the small bass I was trying to catch. Threw 4500 spin fisher on it. Like it..

    Just goes to show sometimes off the rack tackle is well worth the money. Years ago I purchased a 10' 2 piece Daiwa Eliminator spinning surfcast rod. Under $50. Liked so much went back and bought another at 11' and an additional 10' which I stripped the guides off and re-wrapped into a baitcaster. (Relocated the spline) My go to rods for surf now...

    I agree Tsunami makes some great rods for the price,If I could only have 1 rod for Fresh and Salt water I would chose my Slimwave. Great Rod,I hope they come out with a Slimwave 2 and make a 7'6 itd be a killer!

    I use a 9 foot trophy 2 for the back bays it’s an excellent rod for that type of surf but for the ocean surf I use a 10 medium lemiglass gsb and my st croix seage 10”6 med heavy

    I got that rod in a 10ft medium, absolutely great for big bluefish and stripers

    John, I have a tsunami trophy 2, 10’ MH. I paired with a Penn 5500 Spinfisher VI. and 30lb braid. I am thinking of upgrading to something lighter. After 2 hours of surf casting my back starts to feel it.

    Thanks for this. I'm a transplant to the East coast and looking to pick up saltwater fishing. I've got a big cut bait combo, but have been a bit lost as far as an inexpensive lure/bucktail setup.

    Bought a 12’ trophy 2 today for surf fishing here in central Florida. I was looking for something I could cast farther than the other surf rods I have, and I as impressed and satisfied so far. I put a Diawa BG 5000 on it with 30lb braid to a 20 lb leader/pompano rig with a 5oz pyramid sinker and it goes to the same spot as the same setup on my penn fierce 3 from waist to chest deep in the water.

    Really loved the trophy II but unfortunately broke in half on my second trip… disappointed in that. Good thing seller accepted returns for it

    Th Bass Pro Offshore Angler Gold Cup Spinning rods Medium Heavy is the best $50 rod on the market I like it better than other rods I own that cost $125.

    Those false albacore look like a ton of fun!... I've been using an Offshore Angler Gold Cup for a few weeks now.... good rod for such a low price ($50)... after seeing this video tho, I might have to check out a Tsunami

    Never had fancy expensive gear but I never needed it or could afford and I do pretty well myself tag sales and flea markets is were I shop for fishing gear

      @@cricoteo St Croix makes their better rods in the USA. There's plenty of other American made rods also. Plenty of rods made in Japan too.

      @@s0meguy809 true but they cost twice and I'm not sure if the blanks are constructed in the 🇺🇸 and guides are not made in the US. Most of big names now and days bring stuff from over seas very cheap with their brand on it matter fact there's a big bait company that will launch a new bait next year and nothing is made in the US but his package says so is being produce and package in Hong kong. Even Penn was assembly their reels in china or some of their models still being made in China.

      @@s0meguy809 like most companies that want to compete in the market and keep cost low for most profit they will subcontract assembly and parts to fulfill their orders and most of that comes from China. I'm done some research bc I'm in the lure and tackle business mostly 85% to 90% of the stuff you see in shelfs in US comes from Hong Kong or Japan.

    Rick from NJ here again. Welcome back! I have a couple of these in 7ft medium action I use for pier fishing for porgie/fluke/blackfish. Haven't skipped a beat although I prefer the 1st gen Trophy for the nice cork tape handles they have. Would the 9 or 10ft medium heavy in these make good bait & weight rods?

    Hey John, the Tsunami Trophy II 8'6" rod is rated as Medium, while the 8' is rated as Medium-Heavy-would the 8'6" rod be too light at the tip for bucktail jigging for fluke?

    Hi john amazing videos and info ... question I use like a 30lb mono leader with swivels attached with clips is it Breyer to get the spools of leaders and make your own with the tactical anglers clip?

    John...thanks for the review on these.I want a beginner rod for Cape Cod Canal and know it has heavy current at times during tides and was looking at a 10’6” with a fast action 3-8 ounce in this series of rods on J&H site and going to pair it with a Penn Slammer 6500.Would. Fast action in heavy current be an issue with larger lures.?thanks

      I'm not a fan of fast action rods, but I don't think this series is really that fast. I think it's a very cost-effective solution and you can save a little more money by going to the Penn Spinfisher instead of the Slammer.     Hey john, how do you feel about the 9' Penn Squadron II? The thing is only 44.00 retail and is able to handle 20 lb braid and can throw 3/4 to 3.

      I'm not familiar with that rod, but their Battalion rods are an excellent value, so the Squadrons probably are too.

      That is an awesome question. It's easier said than done. I like that the Evict reels I use in Florida aren't as fast as the Penns because it's easier to keep the retrieve speeds appropriate for this winter fishery. But yes, you could just reel slower.

    Great intel on the gear, John. As a new angler all your content is extremely helpful. Looks like you’re on the North Shore in sort of a bowl between two points. Is this typically where I’d look for albies in October? Did you see the fish and decide to fish there or did they show up while you were there? Just getting the hang of schoolie bass on the west end south shore open beaches this past fall. It’s been a blast but always hoping to expand my repertoire.

      It's a migration thing where they're exiting the Sound at that time and some come along the beach, usually without being seen.

    hey skinner, Can you do a $150 setup (rod, reel, line) Im just curious as to what you would purchase as somebody struggling financially paying mortgage on long island haha

      Surf? I wouldn't go lower in price than this series of rods. I'd pair it with a Penn Pursuit reel, but I'd insist on braided line, so I'd say Daiwa JBraid 8-strand, which is slightly lower priced than most other 8-strand braids. Still a touch more than $150 I think.

      @@mustluvkatina if you’re only going once a 10ft rod will do ya, but the average length rods used at the canal are 11ft. And you’ll need to be able to jig at least 3/4oz in that current.
