This game had the highest replay value of any N64 game, possibly of any game I’ve ever played. My friends and I started playing it at 6 or 7 years old and played it through college. The nostalgia is weird because I remember going to playgroup as a little guy and watching the older kids play this game, and I also remember breaking out the N64 with this game at college parties.
Some games don't hold up as well but this one is solid. GameCube with component cable is still look great. Sure you have to apply the nostalgia filter but totally enjoyable
I remember when I first got this game. In like 1999.. I must've been 9 or 10... Parents got it for my brothers and me, but we were having some family get together and weren't allowed to play it until everyone left... kept trying to sneak to my basement to pop it in the N64 with my little brothers, haha... good fucking times. I played SO MANY DAMN HOURS at the Hyrule Castle stage, it's not even funny. Incredible nostalgia just watching this. Have my thumbs up.
When I use to live in San Jose I played this game all the time with my friend from nextdoor. It was his game and when I moved he gave it to me I wish he still lived their I always visit my old house
The nostalgia is strong with this one. I remember playing this with my friends and family when I was six, and we all used to sit together and play. This brings back so many great memories, because I remember the yoshi team, metal mario, race to the finish, the fighting polygon team, and definately master hand always being the hardest ones for me but they were my favorites, and when I finally beat it all I would feel so proud nd accomplished. I truly love this game.
(Captain Falcon leaves Pikachu to fall to his doom after a hammer accident) Game: Hey, cheap shot man! -90 points for that. Falcon: Shaddup. It was his fault he let the hammer pull him over the edge. Pikachu: P-p-pikaaaa....
:( My favorite memory I have with my brother, playing this every time he came to visit for hours with my two sisters and not having anything to worry about as a kid.
I remember when I was a 7 y/o and playing The legend of zelda on my Nes I thought "what if Link, Mario, Samus, and Donkey Kong were to apear in one game...Maybe im thinking to much" then a few years passed and this game came...I felt so robed and excited at the same time lol nice long play!
My grandma had the 64 and a bunch of games at her house. I would always play this. I was either Link or Pikachu usually. She would be up working around the house or sewing, knitting or crafting beside me in her recliner. I miss her so much, it makes me feel sick to watch this because I know I’ll never experience that feeling again. I can’t think of anything I wouldn’t give to have one more day like that with her
I still have a 26 years old Nintendo 64 (actually it's 25, because the N64 came out in Italy in 1997) and it still works, and I might get Smash Bros 64 in these days. I'm so excited to try it
Back in like 2005, 2006.. I was already playing melee alot, but I discovered this game in some sort of game shop, and I was like "OMFFGDG!11!1" because I was a kiddy still. I realized that I had an N64 collecting dust in my attic, so I plugged it in and played N64 games alot from that time period.. until about 2010, 2011 when the N64 stopped working. Rest in peace marissa.. 1996-2011
Because of this game, I have particularly always mained/used the original 12 characters in Smash Bros Ultimate more than any other character. It's awesome to see how much these 12 warriors and veterans have grown. :)
Even if I’m born around the 2000’s and not when this came out, I personally think the graphics are pretty awesome to look at and hope to see the cartridge in person one day.
😢😢😢, damn I miss these days. The all nighters with my brothers and cousins, the arguments about who were better, the fights (and I'm not talking about the game).
I came here to rejoice me and my best friends favorite game we played together as kids growing up. I’m 25 now and he’s been gone for two years. I miss him so much I lost him to suicide. He was my brother. I just cherish this game so much.

What I like about this game is if your fighting Mario and he has a high hit count (i.e has taken a lot of damage) and you use a spin attack from Link or he gets nailed by something that causes multiple hits in him, you get to hear him suffer before he gets sent flying off into oblivion.

@@nenea533 ehh, I'd have to agree to disagree with you there. I respect this classic and I think it looked absolutely amazing when it came out, but that has been almost 20 years ago now. In comparison to today's games, I can't really say it still looks amazing. Graphics to me are not what makes a game great, but adds extra to it, and this game still rocks as far as gameplay, but to be fair it hasn't aged well in its looks imo.

64 is fun as hell to play. It's always a treat to take a brief break from Ultimate and play it.
Same.
Has that N64 charm
that intro is nostalgic I can't even describe how fun it was to play this game as a kid early 2000s
