I have been binge watching your videos and loving them. As a child, I used to walk streams in the US hunting for pretty rocks, petrified wood and fossils. Mother wouldn’t allow me to bring home broken pottery or glass, and I longed to do that. So I am completely fascinated with your finds and your lovely creations. If I were younger, I would mudlark (new word to me and I love it) to my hearts content, but it is much easier on my creaky old body to watch you instead! Thanks for giving me this pleasure!
I sure understand the creaky old body, I used to find rocks in the Willamette river by Salem, Or. Not many fossils but many agates and petrified wood amongst others. Have a great day.

I always call those multi marbles “toothpaste marbles” as a kid as they remind me of the adverts and front covers on toothpaste boxes lol

I always thought I would journey to my ancestor's homeland one day. But life didn't go the way I would have thought. I am from two lines of Scottish clans at least. Clan Donnachaidh (Robertson) and maternal, Clan Scott. Oh what beautiful finds today ladies! You are so blessed with health and youth, not to mention your artistic talents. Enjoy your life!
I have my great grandfather's original key chain he made from wood for the family cabin. It is a light weight wood that they would have taken on the river with them as it would float and not get lost. When I was a girlscout and in summer camp I found shale stone and used my girlscout knife to drill holes in the pieces and gave to the other girls to make necklaces and bracelets out of. Yeah I was weird because I was always going exploring while the others did more social activities. I would have loved to have someone like you all in my life to encourage my adventurous and curious naturel. I should have gone into some type of biology, but ended up through family pressure to go into nursing. I wish I had followed my heart and gone into microbiology or gotten a degree where I could have worked in a medical or forensic laboratory.
Wonderful adventure, thanks for taking us along. It makes me want to go searching for sea glass again. Maybe a road trip is in order soon. The ocean is about 3 hours away. I've been recommending your Instagram page and you tube page to people I know.

Wow my childhood memories have flooded back! I gathered the coal as a kid to burn on our camp fire on Crammond island many a time 💜
My dentist used bowls to spit in and running water made out of that mint colored material in the 1950s. Brought back memories. :).

Here in the US areas, the Native American artists many times use GOLD (the ore) slag, which we call "Rosarita". It's very pretty and usually a deep warm red. Since red coral is quite rare and endangered these days, rosaria is a pretty alternative. Also, since gold-refining methods have improved, rosaria is no longer produced as a by-product or slag!
Cannel coal can also be easily lit with a cigarette lighter, and as you so rightly pointed out, burns with very little ash.
Nice finds and the green translucent glass will make really attractive beads.

Another fantastic video! I have a witch on a broom carved from coal. It was made in Scotland. I can’t wait to see what you two artists come up with to carve.
I'm so looking forward to your coal creations! I'll have to go read up on the geologic processes that form the different types of coal and jet. It certainly seems like different types of organic material, aerobic vs. anaerobic conditions, moisture, temperature, and/or pressure might be factors in where a piece ends up on that spectrum.

I just recently got a map of UK and have been following so many of the mudlarkers and where they are within the hints they give.. I started this with your mud larking at jedburgh and when I found it on the map I was so excited.

The hole in the piece of wood, is made by a sort of mussel, which make the hole with its shell by turning around on a sharp edge of it.
His official name is Barnea candida.
