    I can't believe after all these years, and literally everyone that built anything wanting it, they still haven't put corner pillars in the game. I'm impressed they have stuck to their guns

    • @Eradicati0nn
      @Eradicati0nn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They kinda have with some of the more recent build sets, namely Aesir and Dungeon, but also the Turanian expansion to a degree. Their method of doing it with the quarter pillars is definitely an alternative way, but it does have some upsides to it.
      I suspect it's something they'll do more often too, but having both methods viable is the best of both worlds

    What I don't understand is why they don't make this functional in the base game. Is there a reason why they don't offer snap points on the corners of ceilings and foundations for pillars?

    • @Eradicati0nn

      I would imagine it was a design choice for the stability system during development. I wouldn't be surprised if this sort of thing is kinda hard to change now, after years of code on top of code

    Cornerpillars can work with foundations without mods IF you have the DLC Riders of Hyboria. The mesh of the stable-pillars is so small, you can put foundations back in after you placed the pillars in place. But then again why use foundations in the first place.

    • @Eradicati0nn
      @Eradicati0nn  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually never thought of trying that. I can see it working nicely with maybe Insulated Wood foundations, but that's the only set that really jumps to mind. Thanks for the tip!

      @@Eradicati0nn After you place the foundations, you can always replace the pillars with different ones. no need to stay at stable-version.

  • @crescentwolf7072
    @crescentwolf7072 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question for you Eradicati0n , have you ever used a mix of foundations at different heights and pillars, with the use of ceilings AND hatch frames? apparantly pillars and a number of other structures will go through the hatch frame even with normal settings, like planters, compost heaps and dryers.

    • @Eradicati0nn
      @Eradicati0nn  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't say I have tried that, but it doesn't sound like the sort of circumstance I'd come across natively. I don't think I've ever tried running a pillar through a hatch frame, I'll have to see what happens

    • @crescentwolf7072
      @crescentwolf7072 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Eradicati0nn you can also place a trap door on the hatch frame once the pillar and other objects in, but i save that for last for placement rule reasons.

    • @crescentwolf7072
      @crescentwolf7072 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh, also! I have been placing planters close enough to the ceilings where the plants would clip through the floor, been really enjoying floor clipped lotus plants with the derketo baskets for my garden game, that and the flase mandrakes for more natural foliage to hide trap doors or making a more primitive hedge maze without needing the bazaar hedge maze items.

    • @Eradicati0nn
      @Eradicati0nn  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You absolutely can do it without any mods, and on any platform. It's a couple more steps than just placing corner sockets from GCAM, but it's probably a 10 second setup when you've got it down

  • @BobFromSeattle
    @BobFromSeattle 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I started a new base on an official server and ran into a problem with the pillar trick. I laid out my pillars & ceilings first to set up my floorplan, and then placed "corner pillars" in order to provide support for what will be the upper floors and roofing. The "corner pillars" were actually side pillars aligned with an outer wall, one on each side of an intended doorframe. The problem is that once the pillars are in place in the ceiling tile that is the intended doorway, I can no longer place a door frame there, because the "corner pillars" are preventing me from putting a doorway between them. Is there a better way to approach this, and have I sufficiently communicated it? If I place the doorframe first, I don't think I can do the pillar trick at that point, or can I?

    • @BobFromSeattle
      @BobFromSeattle 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never mind! I went back and re-watched your video and forgot all about the workaround of placing a non-rotation-fixed wall in between the pillars, and then just replacing that wall with a doorframe. Worked like a charm. Once again, your videos helped me solve a problem. You are da man!

  • @BobFromSeattle
    @BobFromSeattle 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    At 5:00 you discuss "something important to know is that side-socket pillars cannot pass stability to an off-grid tile". I'm new and unsure of what this means. Are you saying that these side-socket pillars are purely decorative and offer no stability?

    • @Eradicati0nn
      @Eradicati0nn  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Somewhat, yes. By shifting the pillars off-grid, they can't give support to the original grid. However, if you were to build ceilings on top of them, they create a new grid that receive support from the side-socket pillars

    • @BobFromSeattle
      @BobFromSeattle 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm missing something. In your video you state that if you were to remove the bottom green pillar, everything would collapse. This implies that the red pillars are not sufficient to support the ceiling built on top of it. My poor brain sees this as a contradiction to your answer above, but perhaps what you're saying is that the ceiling that sits atop the green pillars would collapse, but a ceiling built atop the red pillars would be supported, although that ceiling would then be centered above the red pillar, making it essentially on grid thereafter? By the way, your videos are FANTASTIC, and thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question, I'm typically a builder in every one of these games but I'm a stone-cold noob here!

      @BobFromSeattle 5 หลายเดือนก่อน
