  • So, we all worry about what settings we should use for wildlife and bird photography. We ask what shutter speed, what aperture, what ISO... but there are other settings that we also need to think about when we are looking to get the best exposures in the field. One of those is the metering modes we an use, especially when we are using any sort of automated setting like auto ISO. So, lets discuss metering modes.....

Great video Mike and I love the focus point metering option on the Sony !!! It certainly has it uses and I use it a fair bit too.

Hi Mike, Southy woods is a nice place to to sit and chill and wait for the birds. Sometimes if you are lucky you will find a small heard of deer in the field at the far end of the path on the right. Over the road from the parking area is Castor Hanglands, this is a good area for wildlife as well.
With regards to the metering one of the cool things about mirrorless and EVF's is you can usually see the exposure levels live and as you said use exposure comp to tweak things a bit.

Thanks for the info, I have heard people talk about Castor Hanglands, but never actually knew where it was. I shall have to check that out for sure!
As for the Deer, after I finished this video, I was walking about and came across a massive deer, full antlers and everything, beautiful thing it was... but it was too quick for me. I did wander down where it went and caught a couple more glimpses of it but nothing I was able to get a shot off with. Maybe next time.....
