I have a lot of patience and want to make sure I get all the techniques and movements just right, and follow a plan to build muscle and strength. Thanks!

Thanks for your comment. I don't formally train kids. But it's interesting: if you observe kids at the park just doing their thing, you can see that they're getting what they need. Movement! It's important for us as parents to expose our children to exercise and movement in a fun way. The schools really don't do it, so it's our job.
In France it's pretty rare to find such outdoor public equipment to train outside. That's frustrating cause you're forced to pay for strenght training equiment at home or pay a monthly subscription to a "gym hall". (i don't know how you call this in USA) All of this without the advantages of training outside and without being able to do some exercices like human flag for example.
Gym hall? Hmm sounds like a gym here. Here in the US we have fitness parks but it's rare to find them unless you're in a big city or a town that has a population that demands them
I've been weight training for a little over a year now and I just don't think it's right for me. As such I've been looking into body weight and calisthenics training, I am not looking for quick fixes but rather a program that feels like I'm making progress, yes weights work for some but it just doesn't feel right for me. I've been thinking about purchasing the Get Strong 16 week program and am seeing virtually all positive reviews.

The only reason why I go to gym is for the kettlebells, rowing machine, and sauna. Calisthenics life son.
And when it's raining / freezing cold / scorching hot outside.

Hard to advise without having personally witnessed, but if you are in pain it's likely you should lay off--at least upper body
