Did you like just discover Potemkin exists? He plays the exact opposite of that. This sounds like it was written by a chipp main who triple jumped and got heavenly Potemkin bustered once and decided it was the characters fault…
Tip for people who think they have bad neutral Stop approaching so much. Do something to get to the opponent to do something you can punish. See what happens!
This video is fantastic. It's hilarious, and it does a great job of teaching how to play neutral something that's difficult for people to understand when coming into fighting games so if people have difficulty playing neutral hit them with this video and it won't be hard for them to watch it till the end.
This has been an educational experience as have been Playing a fair bit of KI here lately and a friend of mine said i needed to work on my neutral game and not being sure what that is had no idea what to do to improve it. but now i know what neutral is I can try to work on it.
I just wanted to say that I loved that moment where you/the current frame just kinda gently Korean backdash your collective way out of the shot. I mean, the whole video is great, but that bit in particular: _choice_ XD
DBFZ is such a gem of a game dude. Holy shit, i know it's not for everyone but, what a game i get hype just seeing clips of it and I haven't played in so long. God I hope it gets rollback someda or when and if DBFZ2 comes out it has it.
haven't watch the video but i think neutral is a state where no one is making big upsets, or downsets and the players are waiting for make small steps toward there game plan
I wanna point something out. Your thumbnail with the green and purple colours reminds me of my favourite Live-Action Japanese superhero, Kamen Rider W from the Kamen Rider franchise. And i love it! Kamen Rider W essentially have a base form that is half green and have purple, so this fits!
I play fighting games like tekken, but I’m also a big fan of dragon ball and dragon ball fighterz and I was never able to understand it. Thank you for the video.
That's why I play FGs that punish mashing, rather than giving them a lot of ways to have advantage on block that makes it hard to take your turn back without very specific knowledge checks. Like VF5US. Mash in that and you'll get your dome rattled, as it should be. Similar to how just constantly attacking IRL will just tire you out and leave you open.
I'm one of those guys who says DBFZ has no neutral. While it may seem counterintuitive, I think the fact that mixups and conversions are a threat at all ranges is the problem. To me, the neutral game is the process of feeling out your opponent, and fighting for positional advantage (or frame advantage in 3d fighters), but between superdash, ki blasts, and the absurd amount of forward movement on some normals and autocombos, your position is almost irrelevant. And when every interaction potentially leads to a combo or pressure, the logical next step is to run mixups, not control space or read movements. In practice, it's more like a game of RPS and the winner gets to run their offense. It feels more like a formality than something I actively think about match to match.
Lots of games’ neutral looks like footsies as people attempt to bait their opponent into attacking and it’s a careful dance back and forth. My neutral game looks like nago super jump into air hs.
Logically speaking, I think NRS receives a bit too much hate from the FGC, tbh. They're pretty much the only non-Platform Fighter dev studio that makes fighting game products actually worth the asking price (from an objective universal game landscape perspective rather than the FGC vacuum tunnel-vision) and they provide rare gameplay variety from the offense-heavy, defense-punishing, footsies/zoning-averse design sensibilities of the majority of releases in the last decade. And variety shouldn't be a bad thing, nor mocked, yeah? I know I always advocate for more people being able to find something that appeals to theor tastes in the genre, rather than limiting the appeal to certain design trends and alienating anyone who doesn't fall into popular opinion.
To me neutral just means the space in between two characters. The neutral zone if you will. Knowing when to back dash, forward dash, and feinting attacks are several ways to control the neutral zone. If you can consistently make your opponent whiff, then you can consistently punish them.
As someone who started with skullgirls axl is the funniest character ive used because nobody really knows how to deal with someone who never really considers a laid back neutral into their strategy as a ZONER.
I will say while snk heroines probably doesnt have great neutral, kof neutral is really fantastic in the neutral because of great universal options and especially movement, grapplers in particularly are extra fun in kof. if you get the chance give it a shot! 15 looks solid
Ive seen this video. Ive absorbed the knowledge. And- nope, dbfz still doesnt have neutral... Cant change my mind although you did a pretty damn good job
Thats so good ... ofc its a true what are talking about but after all i dont care about this cuz the funniest thing was the WAY you walking :] good stuff bro
Definitely would have been more accurate to say that side of the spectrum represents the Vs. genre in general but Gekko will be caught dead before he makes a video that doesn't mention DBFZ lol
Wait Kazuya has a gun in Tekken WTF, I only know him from smash bros so what, this is hilarious, local fighting devil pulls out gun to street brawl wins every game. We asked the man for a comment and he only gave us some eclectrics and Doriyah as an answer.
Technically it's a customization item that every character can use, not just Kazuya. There's a lot of guns too. Even a shotgun. Or a pizza that you throw Or fireworks you put on the ground that do nothing Or a water gun
I honestly can't relate to the hate for slower, more measured neutral that puts any more emphasis on footsies than is present in airdashers and tag fighters. When pokes and whiff punishes are barely part of the game flow, and not constantly moving forward/engaging is actively punished, I simply can't enjoy the game. Yet the majority of FGs favored by the FGC majority (and the ones getting quality rollback netcode) are the games that make footsies either nonexistent or difficult to maintain. Even in Strive, Ky's game plan is difficult to execute on. Heck, if players like Kizzie Kay struggle to win tourneys with Ky, that objectively says something. Even SFV is one of the least footsie-based entries in the series, having given most characters moves that pass through projectiles, taken away the invincibility from light meterless DPs, and V-Reversals are often so crap that they had to add a whole new defensive mechanic (V-Shift) in the game's last DLC season. Since the genre is niche, that means that those of us who genuinely like footsie-heavy fighters (and you mocked like a respectable individual) don't have much selection of well-populated games nor ones with good netcode. And all the mocking/memeing doesn't exactly help promote a healthy variety in gameplay types in this genre. There may be a fighting game for everyone, but not all gameplay preferences get fair treatment. But I guess it's too much to ask the FGC to have a more open mind regarding gameplay styles the majority find boring. I'm sure some replies to this will demonstrate that and, if not, then that'll be a pleasant surprise and a welcome change of pace from most of my experiences discussing this topic.
I don't think it's hate for neutral. The "honest, ground based footsies" meme is actually formed from people trying to defend their game by talking about how its neutral is just as robust even if the game in motion looks like it's just an unga bunga rumble in the jungle. The more heavy emphasis that SFV took towards offense is IMO a result of trying to be more "spectator friendly."
"A Fool or a Jester", Tohru Adachi's theme from Persona 4. I f you haven't played through the entirety of Persona 4/ Persona 4 Golden, you should avoid reading the comments, as they're full of *MAJOR* spoilers.
Sf5 footsies? Lmao. One of the reasons i quit sf5 is because the normals are slow and stubby af compared to sf4. Crapcom even nerfed nash's mk scythe kick (i forgot what it's called) because it was one of the few moves with decent reach.
In my own personal experience, neutral is when I’m losing slightly but don’t want to admit it yet.
Pretty much every fighting game starts in neutral, so this is very true.
