    Seeing the lesson play out in real-time is enlightening

      I just started playing. I have the combos down OK but I was still getting rocked. Couldn’t find out why.
      I think what this lesson is going over is exactly why. I’m stuck in Street fighters slightly more passive play style. I’m gunna try to be more aggressive today when I play to see what happens.

    • @A2ZOMG
      @A2ZOMG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@moistfungus3780 My basic understanding of Arcsys fighters like GG and BB is they often encourage you to take the initiative due to how extreme character gimmicks (and system mechanics) are in these games. And while playing good defense is still important, you cannot always guess right on the defensive especially against characters who specialize in ambiguous mixup. And metered conversions often get really ridiculous in general, which is something you want to be leveraging preferably when you're not in disadvantage (though keeping in mind, good characters often can force favorable risk/reward even on the defensive).
      SFV after lots of necessary balance patches definitely leans more towards slower paced defense since the overall damage of that game isn't **too** extreme and most safe blockstrings and throws very quickly reset you back to neutral.

    I think something that would help him (not saying him being that passive is a good thing) is to crouch block so he’s not just losing space in neutral for no reason

      No he's walking backwards on purpose, he's not trying to block. He's trying to get outside of Nago's 5H range, but yes when you do that you concede screen space, potentially too much of it.

    • @richardjohnson8991
      @richardjohnson8991 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@jasonslade6259 over 2 blood meter it definitely isn't worth conceding almost 2/3rd of the screen. Not to be the reductive just don't get hit person but like...it's an rps inside of that range but giving Nago more space at high blood usually is worse than pressuring

And I'm a Potemkin player, it transcends character barriers. It just feels so nice to put the nerd hat on and just think about the game in this more analytical lens.

    This is enlightening. I have this problem as well (I play Ky so having a slower dp makes me hesitant to risk it as well as trying to improve my defence, throw breaks and waiting for a punish/challenge window especially in the corner before jabbing or backthrow and super only for a hard call out) I think with sol I'd be more tempted to press 5K. I've started trying to mix more backdashes and drift RC in neutral to escape things and dash/jump to escape the corner and trying to get a feel for best times to YRC or Burst. Then I run into Ram and that match-up feels impossible, I've no idea what to do honestly, I tried labbing as well.

    • @ducklenin8161
      @ducklenin8161 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sometimes, you gotta roll the dice, use the DP, then see how your opponent reacts (does their pressure change? Are they using the same buttons with the same timing? Are they utilizing safejumps, or baiting it on your wakeup by running at you then FD'ing when you're knocked down?)

    • @riordanbrown9557
      @riordanbrown9557 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You gotta show them the dp at least once, otherwise they'll meaty you on wakeup every oki. Gotta show them a reason to slowdown, otherwise they won't slow down

      Vapor Thrust does have its weaknesses. Its slow, easy to safe jump and it can be low profiled, but one way you can get around these problems is by primarily using it to bust out of gaps in block strings. Its much harder for the opponent to play around VT's shortcomings when it is used like that.

    Stop being so defensive...stop running at me...im trying to learn from this videos, and i lose too Nago by being too respectful to his pressure, and everybtime I try to take a stand, im just getting slapped by normals.. what is the balance there...where do i need to press against my opponents, because im always very respectful of my opponents turn, and my counter attack is hit with a reversal. Any tips my FGC comment section?

      Things like this just come with experience. Knowing the openings in your opponents block strings and understanding their options at specific ranges. I suffer with the same thing. I turtle up a lot and I end up kinda letting my opponent get into advantageous positions. Finding that balance, It’s pretty difficult to figure out.

      Sol was doing nothing, so Hotashi told him to do something. When he did something it was repeatedly dashing into f.S. Which is predictable, and Sol did start to add some walk up 6S, which isn't my favourite, since you're telegraphing the next move (walk = 6S, dash = f.S.) Vary your approach options. Just for some solid dash based options: Dash block. Dash backdash (looking for a whiff punish, which is hard against nago but works well in some matchups.) Dash 6S (to fish for high damage CH combos.) Dash f.S (to start pressure.) Dash 6P (to counter poke.) Dash all the way into grab.

    • @Hotashi

      the answer likely lies within varying approaches and responses to your opponents attempts to gain tempo, key word vary

      “If you do not chase in directly toward the place where your opponents have gathered, you will not make progress. And, if you start thinking about the direction from which your opponents will come, your mind will be waiting and you will have the same result. Parry your opponents’ rhythm, know where they will crumble, and you will have the victory.”

      The beauty of fighting games is there is never one answer.

    • @jordanday7670
      @jordanday7670 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Might sound like kind of a non-answer, but it’s just how things are. You’ll notice the video is titled “The problem with being OVERrespectful,” not, “Being respectful is a problem.”
      All you can do is work to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each action, and apply them as needed. Listen to what your opponents actions are communicating to you, trust yourself, and play with your heart.
      Sometimes you’ll be wrong. Learn to notice when you’re unsettled, and refocus.
      Always remember that you’re playing against your opponent, not your opponent’s character. Everyone can be beaten.

    Idk the specifics or technicalities of this playstyle, all I know is that one time I saw a Leo do H projectile, approach behind it to lock down Hotashi, and Hotashi, playing Nago, just did 5H frames before the projectile landed to check the dash and win. And it was the coolest thing ever.
