@@natedogtrainer3812 it was fun, while it lasted. I bought a second unit and had a tandem setup. Funny little box. My only complaint is the lag when using midi cc to switch effects on the fly but that can’t be helped for a device that came out 20 years ago. I eventually sold both of my units.
No mention of the zip disc buffer errors lololol. Love the sp808ex as an effects box though. This and a 404, killer combo. I’ve had three of these things, I’m now using it with an Toraiz SP16
Thanks for putting this video up. I just hooked the 808 into my midi chain and was trying to figure out why it won't slave to midi clock. But thanx to your video it apparently will not slave to midi clock which is a big bummer but not a major set back.
Basically, the 808 can be used to fire off pads thru midi or live, I have 2 808's and my plan is to have one hooked to midi firing off pads and the other for live firing of samples
I Bought myself one of these the other day and I'm just working out how it works now. I've only just got it out the box and it's my first sampler so I don't know shit about fuck at the minute. But I do know that when I go to sample anything, I press start, it displays the 'now sampling: Remain ...minutes' etc. But When I go to stop recording my sample, the button doesn't seem to stop the recording. The message stays on screen, and then I'm stuck on that sampling screen unless I turn the whole thing off, so I'm sort of unable to do anything. Anyone got a solution or had a similar thing happen? Cheers.
Anyone know if you can load pad banks and use them, without a working zip drive (especially once you update the firmware to SP-808ex)? Or can you only use the synth and effects? Thanks!
chriscauldermusic You can only use the synth and effects because the machine has no internal memory for saving samples onto the pad banks. That information is stored on the Zip disks.
Charles D. I might be wrong I need to dig mine out of storage but I'm sure it doesn't have a hard drive in it. This vid is making me head towards the attic 🤣
