Thank you! I think I'm in the middle even though the waves try to push me toward extremes. I am 100% pro-Jewish but I'm also opposed to the policies of the Israeli government. If I were at Columbia, I would attend protests and volunteer to take a shift guarding her daughter's mezuzah. The push to conflate Jewish people with the government of Israel tells people that if you oppose Israeli policies, you should blame all Jews. In an attempt to defend Israel, people are saying the middle ground cannot exist but I will continue to fight anti-semitism and the occupation.
I hope that he will post a second video tomorrow of him having a similar conversation with a panel of Palestinians about the horrific events they've been experiencing for a year now. That's what he did after the first interview video with an Israeli following October 7 last year, he posted a video with a Palestinian a few days later. I wish this would have been a conversation with representatives from both sides, but I guess it must be too difficult to find people for a video like that about this conflict that could sit and have a calm but serious conversation without trying to demonize the other side. Unfortunate. I have seen many young Palestinians and Israelis speaking about the whole issue very eloquently and fairly, considering both sides and perspectives, across social media, but maybe something has changed.
What happened on October 7th in Israel was horrendous and tragic. I’m inspired by the hope these guests still have. I hope people will remember that the attack was waged by Hamas, not Gazan civilians. And that the ruthless retaliation attacks on Palestine have been from the Israeli government and military, not all Jews. That said, I hope you will interview civilians from Gaza to learn of the suffering caused by the Israeli government.
A valid point but one that is not as important to this video. The moment you get into the geopolitical weeds this all gets so complex. By taking this zoomed in approach and people centric style of video it arguably does more. Humanizing an abstract idea helps to bring attention to it and creates a different sort of context.
@grayrook8637 the issue with this video there was no uncomfortable conversation taken place. I'm well read on the topic. The video is from one perspective with everyone agreeing.
@michaeljohnson6648 I really like the line Ms. Yanai makes in her reflection on the experience "49 days of trying to get them to understand and be understood". Everyone is entitled to their opinions but when we decide on one side or another, them and us, we lose something fundamentally important and are left with something worse. That is my take on this video. Context be damned everyone's pain is valid however complex the situation. Who knows perhaps he is just as ready to cover the Palestinian side at a later date relevant to them, or just because.
I immediately subscribed after listening to these people speak. It’s not just about Israeli versus Palestinian political issue, and my opinion. It’s about the politics that people wanna hold onto as opposed to looking beyond that and seeing the humanity and looking for the commonality that Palestinians and Israelis, both share. This was a good introduction into the perspectives from one side, but it would be great to hear the Palestinian side. And the way that beautiful lady from Morocco summed it up, she attempted with all of her might, to better understand, the opposing side and look at them in a human way. But they refused to open up. I commend her for her courage and her determination to survive, along with her resilience, and optimistic outlook. And Emmanuel, this is an excellent platform. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to many more to come and look forward to something about the Palestinian perspective, from some of the Palestinian people as well. My dude, if the largest slaughtering of Jews since the Holocaust doesn't make you uncomfortable, then I don't know what kind of person you are. Yes, the current conflict is polarizing. This isn't about that. This isn't about the Palestinian plight. This is about a terrorist organization invading and murdering people just because they're Jews. That's very uncomfortable.

I don’t think it pleased anyone. This isn’t a video on the Palestine/Israel/HAMAS conflict. It’s only in remembrance of this large massacre - like 9/11. If you want a video regarding the complex nuances of the decades of war, please make it.
@@daniellecochran5210 Plenty of those have been made already, to varying degrees of accuracy. And the parallel to 9/11 is apt; for those approximately 3,000 lives taken in America, afterwards my country went on to start two different wars in retaliation, causing over 46,000 civilian deaths in Afghanistan alone, not even considering Iraq. Widespread memorialization of massacres, even when well intentioned, invite and encourage even larger massacres.
