Lyrics:
Let Italy boast of her gay gilded waters
Her vines and her bowers and her soft sunny skies
Her sons drinking love from the eyes of her daughters
Where freedom expires amid softness and sighs
Scotland's blue mountains wild where hoary cliffs are piled
Towering in grandeur are dearer tae me
Land of the misty cloud land of the tempest loud
Land of the brave and proud land of the free
Enthroned on the peak of her own highland mountains
Te spirit of Scotia reigns fearless and free
Her green tartan waving o'er blue rock and fountain
And proudly she sings looking over the sea
Here among my mountains wild I have serenely smiled
When armies and empires against me were hurled
Firm as my native rock I have withstood the shock
Of England, of Denmark, of Rome and the world
But see how proudly her war steeds are prancing
Deep groves of steel trodden down in their path
The eyes of my sons like their bright swords are glancing
Triumphantly riding through ruin and death
Bold hearts and nodding plumes wave o'er their bloody tombs
Deepeyed in gore is the green tartan's wave
Shivering are the ranks of steel dire is the horseman's wheel
Victorious in battlefield Scotland the brave
Bold hearts and nodding plumes wave o'er their bloody tombs
Deepeyed in gore is the green tartan's wave
Shivering are the ranks of steel dire is the horseman's wheel
Victorious in battlefield Scotland the brave
Victorious in battlefield Scotland the brave
Proud of my Scottish roots.
Me Too! 👍
That man can sing and those lassies can dance. You Scots know how to put on a show. All the best from your Welsh Cousins.
Being Irish is better.
I love my Italian heritage, who would not if they were I? From the southernmost 'property', Sicily on my paternal Grandfather,s side and Tuscany on my Paternal Grandmother's side from Pisa. I was beyond my teens as a byproduct of my parents divorce in the sixties before I found out I was half Scottish. I knew my mother was not Italian but my father forbade anything other than Italian and I never questioned it. My mother was a dutiful, if scared wife. When I found out I was half Scottish of the Wallace clan I was taken aback with a history hereto unknown to me. I love it, I revel in it. It brings out the poetic/romance side of me. I am 78 next and really do appreciate my entire heritage.
Years ago in 1970 I was at the Veterans Hospital for tests for 2 weeks and this Beautiful Blue Eyed Blond girl named Laura McDermott came every day and and we talked every day I could really have seen me with her forever, but never did. Scottish girls are so Pretty.
The dancers in Maroon are something else !!! Never get sick of watching this !!!
Proud as my native rock, I have withstood the shock of England of Denmark, of Rome and the world!
Pride for one’s native rock: ain’t nothing wrong with that
(( 1:12 ) - ( 1:20 ))
I'm not Scottish, but I love the song anyway. The Scots are a great people.
I-rish I was Scottish... Pun :)
They became slaves of English and fought for them...no respect for them
I'm more than half Scottish and will always have it in me blood! So proud!
I am watching in 2021 and praying that Scotts are finding “The Brave” in their hearts today.
Me too! Rancy Oather Bowling, the 24th greats Grandson of Raibert de Brus!!! & 17 Greats Grandson of James, I of Scotland, Clan Campbell & Campbell blood descendant. Knights Templar (Masonic).
@@randyo.bowling1907 Being a Glaswegian i can firmly say, I have no idea what any of that means
@@randyo.bowling1907 Is that right aye? I'm the popes brother and the queen's sister
Always....
As a Glaswegian that's something I widnae brag aboot. Pretty sure the Bruce wouldn't brag about it either.
Great song, great lyrics, great dancing. Must have watched this 50 times.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one that has watched it so much. Lol. I think that it is the best one that I've ever seen.
What about the Singer ?
Jass Sullivan yes
I'm very proud of Scottish ancestry, must get over there at least once in my lifetime. This was an amazing incentive for that. Thank you.
My ancestors lived in Sutherland, Isle of Lewis.
This anthem rings true!!
I live in America.
Although an American, I have Scottish ancestors (the disestablished Clan McKinnon). And I have been a great McDermott fan for years--when I taught a WW1 course I use to played several of his songs for the students. This is the first time I have heard his rendition of Scotland the Brave. And I agree with the Dutchman--it should be the national anthem. Actually, I thought it was!
Scotland is great!
Greetings from Mexico!
Scotland the Brave always lifts me. This version is the best version I have ever heard. Great performance from dancing to John's exceptional singing. Magnificent.
I found out recently that I am half Scottish (well, 48% anyway!), and having always loved the music and the country itself, I can say that John McDermott's rendering of this song makes me feel so proud to have that ancestry in me!
I live in Scotland
Was fortunate to see this show in person---absolutely fantastic.
Land o' the high endeavour- Land o' the shining river- Land o' my heart forever- Scotland the Brave.
Sadly lost to Scotland amidst derision of the heather and the kilt - such a pleasure to find this song(ish) alive and kicking in foreign climes- thank you :)
If I make it back to Scotland I will have to see highland dancers
How I wish I had visited Scotland when I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall.
Easily the best version of this song ever, as an Irishman I love this version, thanks Johnny

Sean Noone Wales doesn’t give two shits they love england
Sean Noone because they love england
Sean Noone I don’t know
I wish I could dance like that . Ahhh, too old now
I only have one good foot.
But I can dream.
Ah once I could and did dance like this. I won competitions for the sword dance and I danced it both styles soft style like the lions here with my dancing pumps on and Fraser style as they danced it pre battle barefoot and much faster than the show style. At dances end the sword was lifted from the standard and tossed high in the air to be caught in hand o n way down.
i was the only female who danced it this style in the Glasgow highlands institute in fact the style was virtually unknown then and I believe that now &55 years later virtually forgotten as the sword was thrown and caught every Fraser around would traditionally about Me Suis Prest our clan moto ( I am ready.
Memories areprecious. I danced Highland from 3-62 can just manage a few reels these days sadly.
Love this rendition. Seeing those girls move those feet reminds me to put the seat down. All the best to Scots.
John is an amazing artist so versatile , great talent
In the 1960’s I danced on stage with Jimmy Shand and his band. This is absolutely brilliant 🌞
Bravery is
Not fearlessness
Bravery is
not cowardice
Bravery is unleashed by courage. It faces fears and figure a way out to overcome to do it. Only Courage makes real bravery true.
o completely insane you don't want them near you. Bravery is the courage to meet your fears and learn how to control them, because anyone that goes to battle and says that they're not afraid is a liar or so insane you don't want them in the same hole with you.
We all feel the pride and fierce pride of Scotland as we have loved many lives. My heart beats to this great anthem, having lived there in past ages.
I love every bit of it. Wonderful voice and spirit. Fabulous dancers.
I keep coming back to this to watch the dancers. I'm particularly fond of the five tap dancing girls in the red tunics and black pants. Not only are they quite talented, they have the most infectious smiles, too!
+gjm1953 My feelings exactly!
They are adorable.
I'm honestly not trying to be a wise guy, but the 5 girls in the red and black are not tap dancers, they are Irish step dancers. The two are somewhat related, I'll admit.
Thank you, Rikki0! That's nice to know. But even though they aren't tap dancing, I still think they're cute as heck!
gjm, there is sure no disagreement there my friend. :)
I just love the Scottish step dancers, the ladies in the red tops and black trousers.
They are Irish dancers this is sean nos dancing. Mcdermott is of Irish ancestry.
Applause from Korea too!! Wonderful!!
Bonnie Scotland!
Woo!
John never fails to entertain. I can listen him to him all day. Great Singer.
Seen you in concert three times and I love this song and performance, and as a Vietnam Vet I love your version of The Wall.
I am Scot, Irish, English, Welsh- Cherokee Apache! (1/2 Brit 1/2 Indian!) How's that for a mix!!! I dearly love the Irish Tenors, and particularly John's music!
British are formed of numerous ethnicities

GO SCOTIA!! From your Hibernian cousin :-)
6-17-2017 *** WOW! I'm getting all psyched up for the my high school's big 60th anniversary today! Our pipe band and Highland Dancers will definitely be performing *Scotland the Brave,* my favorite. It won't be quite like this...it'll be more special! ♥
This is literally the best version around! I am not a Scotsman (Dutch as a matter of fact), but everytime I hear this version of Scotland the brave, It gives me chills. Should've been the national anthem.. Instead of flower of Scotland
Dutchmen here too
It's probably because the start of it pokes fun at Italy.

Bas - I’m American. I love Scotland and it’s my goal to visit Scotland one day.

The only true way to sing Scotland The Brave !!
lovely
Imagine doing this in one breath
Always loved this song. But did not know the Lyrics. I am American og Italian decent and am Honored that they mention Italy at the beginning. I also know the Scots are proud that they repelled the Romans, Vikings, and The English.
Wow i like this song it discribe the big culture of Scotland i really like it so much
I am happy you liked it.
Dermott Studio Have your recorded the English version of Luis Eduardo Aute's " Who Will Answer?", Ed Ames does a rather nice job ot it.
Love this-the song, dancers-all of it. Best version ever. Thank You!
I wonder how many people know that the lyrics are NOT the traditional lyrics for that song? But this is a great version and the lyrics are wonderful.
Thanks -- I was listening for completely different words!
Can you please send me the other lyrics?
REally Love this John!!!!!! My favorite!!!!!!!

Brilliant, great singer and a song that is sadly rarely sung.

Great song by great singer, our Irish Cousin..... proud to be Scottish
Stuff the flower of Scotland this is our national anthem
Bravo bravissimo!!!
A wonderful video , wonderful song, wonderful dancers _ greetings from Poland !
Good job
Excellent - thank you for posting!
No problem.
Nice upbeat treatment of this one John. btw, you sing the acapella version of "Danny Boy" EXACTLY like my Irish Grandfather did, and you put it across perfectly. There are some artists, who, once they've done a tune, just nail it so well that none other can compare. That's what you did with "Danny Boy".
This is trippy
Come you Scots ❤️
WOW! Good to learn that clogging came from Scotland. The Appalachian Scotts certainly taught it to the eastern mountain people. I love it!
It doesn't clogging or sean nos dancing comes from Ireland.
this is my favourite drinking song
Bravo!
Fantastic !
Never gets old 😘
Being just a bit Scottish, Should the song bring tears to my eyes?
It matters are ye proud to be Scottish, clan Bryson forever!
Clan Glendenning forever!!
To @lawrenceparker5438
It's in your DNA. Being 1/4 Scottish ( Stewart Clan) myself the song on the bagpipes or in word has always stirred something in me since I was a kid.
John's father was Scottish, his mother was Irish, and John's mother was Irish and John was born un Scotland , but raised in Canada.
Both of sides of Johns ancestry is Irish. Mcdermott is an Irish surname. His fathers side immigrated to scotland during the Irish famine.
I legit have had this video in a freaking loop, for the past week. Love this video
Not what I was expecting but I loved it just the same!
Great number-love it!
