I had written to an address I found on a record jacket, asking where they were playing in autumn '89. Ronnie wrote me back himself, with a list of venues, and I met them after their concert in Portree when they came out to sign autographs. When I asked Ronnie if I could get a picture with them, he called to Roy, "Hey! One of the Colonials wants a photo here!" and I still treasure it. How could anyone 'dislike'?! RIP Roy.

    legends!!!!
how many folk can write a national anthem and not even realise it?"flower of scotland" was written n spent years in the back of a drawer cause roy didnt think it was good enough!
only realised when the nation adopted it as national anthem.
R.I.P. Roy Williamson your a legend

Land o' the Kilt and Sporran -
    Underneath, there's nothin' worn!
How I wish the wind was warm! Scotland the Brave.
I must admit it's pretty gruesome,
Walking about wi' your frozen twosome!
It's all we've got - we musn't lose 'em - Scotland the Brave.
    Best paragraph ever.

For, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any condition be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Taken from the Declaration of Arbroath, 1320, which asserted Scotland's right to international recognition as an independent country.

I met the Corries after a concert in Inverness years ago.Ronnie came across as a bit pernickety but Roy was a lovely gentleman.Whatever their differences were, there has not been another such phenomenon in Scotland as far as wit, humour and perfectly-timed music are concerned, for many years. How lucky were we who were there when it was happening! Get in there you Youngies! It's all been left for YOU!

Classic Entertainers, worth their weight in gold. Fantastic and funny.. but I cannot help but wonder in todays so PC world, would they have ended up doin Jailhouse Rock, with the words they sing here? Uhhh! lol
Thank you for this post.. Sadly I never came across them in life, what have I missed..

I once heard a version that had these verses in it:
Land where we don't like swankies,
Land where we don't use hankies,
Where the lassies love the Yankees,
    Scotland the Brave.
Land that is full of strangers,
Land where we know no dangers,
Home of the Celts and Rangers,
    Scotland the Brave.
Anyone know where I can find it?

I think he starts on the next line ("Architects with paying hobbies"), then the crowd drowns him out laughing at "Councillors with part-time jobbies", so he says "Aye... If the shoe fits, wear it!" A lot of councillors in the audience?

@kirkyz2010 I'm "English people", and I absolutely love the Corries, it's a shame England has nothing to compare. The Corries were simply wonderful. Even if their message often attacks my country, it's beautiful to listen to and they probably had a point!

I'm very sorry to correct you there skempFUSS, but Scotland DOES have a national anthem. In the World Cup, rugby, other sporting events, we sing Flower of Scotland, but in the Commonwealth Games they play Scotland the Brave. The Scottish Parliament have already had this debate. Scotland is a seperate State that is joined in Union with the Kingdom of England, the Principality of Wales, and obviously Northern Ireland... we exists in a mutually beneficial nation among nations.

IIRC ..this is around 1974 in the Music Hall in Aberdeen. I loved the Corries then, and still do.
I was a real "SNP" chap in those days....now I have no time for them. Pity they got "hi-jacked" by the left in the late 70s/early 80s.
