Since 1962, The Dubliners have been enthralling audiences worldwide with their music and song. The strength and attractiveness of The Dubliners has always been in the personalities of the musicians who have made up this boisterous band of balladeers, from original members, Ronnie Drew, Barney McKenna, Luke Kelly, Ciarán Bourke, John Sheahan and Bob Lynch to the arrival at different stages of Jim McCann, Seán Cannon, Eamonn Campbell and finally the peerless Paddy Reilly.

I have to say, this is the only video my 3 month old will settle down instantly too 😅
My grandfather used to sing this one all the time. It reminds me of him. Makes me happy and miss him all at once!
same here
One day sing this song for your grandchildren ☘️💚
Beautiful fast moving Hymn; sung and played perfectly.
About 15 years ago, I was in a Christian university, working towards a degree in theology. In one my courses, Spiritual Formation, my Professor introduced us to this song. It was a favorite of his.
And ever since, it has been a favorite of mine as well. I love how well this song communicates the free & whimsical side of Jesus. Too often we paint pictures of Christ in a somber, broken, or dying portrait.
My favorite artwork of Christ is of Him laughing, the work was done in 1973 by Willis Wheatley. Just as that art so beautifully conveyed the joyful side of Christ, I believe this song does as well- just via a different medium.
If the joy of the Lord is our strength, we really ought to allow ourselves more time to experience His joy.
That's my childhood right there. Those were simple days.😢😊
I sang this in school as a boy. Brings a tear to my eye.
Do you sing it still?
Same
The only version of this song that counts, it will be played at my funeral
Fair play mate a good call!
I've always enjoyed listening to the Dubliners. They represented their country so very well.
I first heard this song at a very low point in my life. 😢😢😢
Primary school?
If something is gonna make me a believer it will be this song.
Had the great privilege to see the Dubliners at Media City in Salford around 2012 picking up a lifetime achievement award at BBC Radio 2's folk awards. Truly deserved.
Best wishes to Ireland from Hamburg/Germany
Christ, not man, is King!
Long live Liberty 🗽.
Happy St Patrick's Day 2021....I been listening to this song from this morning.
Happy St Patrick's Day 2022 .... I have been listening to the Dubliners the whole morning too.
2023 now! 😂🎉
For you Ro, know how much you loved this song. Eternal peace my love!!
Thank you, The Dubliners. The most of you are now dancing and singing in heaven (Valhall). But, dance, dance wherever you may be, I will always be a big fan of you.
And when they find a hill high enough to hang me, i will follow you. Dance, dance wherever you will be..................
Why haven't I found this gem before?!?! What a great song!
Aye, it is, and this me favourite version of this song.
Obviously not a United fan
Jesus Christ loves this!
I love my Lord Jesus Christ❤️🙏
Amen, this is the gospel
I sung this song as a boy in Primary School. Never forgot the chorus. Not Christian myself but I do love this song. Great Rendition 👌
Maybe you should think about becoming a Christian. John 3:16
@@dickreed3700 🤣🤣🤣
To be fair, it’s not even really a Christian song. The author wrote it about of trig the incarnations of Shiva, a Hindu god. The author was surprised that Christian churches started playing it. He said “I thought people would find it heretical”
@@deathstar2294 Can you tell me more? I know it's based on Copeland's 'Appalachian Spring' but the lyrics seem to directly refer to Christ. I grew up Catholic so IDK.
@@deathstar2294 it's literally a song about Christ defying the Temple Priests, being whipped, hanged, and returning to life
my grandparents sung to me on a tape for my birthday great song
I danced in the morning
When the world was begun,
And I danced in the moon
And the stars and the sun,
And I came down from heaven
And I danced on the earth,
At Bethlehem
I had my birth.
Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he
I danced for the scribe
And the pharisee,
But they would not dance
And they wouldn't follow me.
I danced for the fishermen,
For James and John
They came with me
And the Dance went on.
Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he
I danced on the Sabbath
And I cured the lame;
The holy people
Said it was a shame.
They whipped and they stripped
And they hung me on high,
And they left me there
On a Cross to die.
Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he
I danced on a Friday
When the sky turned black
It's hard to dance
With the devil on your back.
They buried my body
And they thought I'd gone,
But I am the Dance,
And I still go on.
Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he
They cut me down
And I leapt up high;
I am the life
That'll never, never die;
I'll live in you
If you'll live in me -
I am the Lord
Of the Dance, said he.
is it not "dance, dance wherever you may be" ?
Amen Baruch Haba Hashem Adonai👑🔥🕊

Vielen Dank für den Liedtext ...auf deutsch.
Ein cooler song !
When they play this song at Mass it’s amazing!
One of my favorites for Easter!
Probably the only song which captures the Christ I read of in the gospels .
Haughty as well as modest, proud and humble, defiant and pious.
Full of love and invitation. You hear very little of this from mainstream Christianity. This song is true to the gospels.
Many many many years ago this was the 1st song I learned to play on the recorder.
Awesome Greetings from Cardiff
I love this song love it love it Amen
Luv this bloody song. tune in

Just Love it !!!

Love it
I miss primary
I just put a crack in my beautiful face from such a broad happy smile!
A week later....still listening too this song....my little girl loves it!!
I love The Lord of dance'
Fantastic! 😊💟
This is sort of an intertesting cultural fusion: An Irish musician performing lyrics by an English writer to the tune of a traditional American shaker hymn.
Shakers originally came from england so it's most entirely English with an Irish man performing.
Happy Easter!
Brilliant. We always sang this in school. Those were the days
i love it
Glad you loved it! Thanks for watching!
We used to sing this song when I was in catholic school. I didn’t really like it then but I love it now. It’s also the only hymn I remember from school 😂
They make it so boring in church! its played so slow! Even then it was always my favorite Hymnal
Classic stuff!
One of my favorite songs, by one of my favorite groups. I play it each year on Easter Sunday 😊 My only gripe is that, traditionally, the third verse should be sung slowly, and speed back up at “…but I am the Dance and the dance goes on!”
Happy Easter 2021! ✝️
I literally did a entire Camino listening to this! Got into Santiago thinking I was the Lord of the walk!
Might I ask what a Camino is? It sounds cool
Well done that’s one tough walk 👍👍
@@cg9616 I'm back on it now my friend. I'm the only one on it!

@@TheDublinersOfficial lovely. Thank you
Right- no one can top the Dubliners.
The singer is either a believer or an extremely good actor.
That fellow there is an irish man very patriotic very religious..
Jim McCann is a believer and he is one of the best entertainers Ireland has produced with those other men. None of them can touch Lukey but they are all amazing in their own rights. And just to say again, no, not an act. Very faithful man.
@@DM-GRPRT Thanks. I appreciate the reply a lot.
I was introduced to this song in 1972 by the vicar of my school for the first time i actually enjoyed a church service
I also became an agnostic the same day as I realised that humans make beautiful music and there can be no higher being to allow the mess we've made of this world 😢
I got morris and maypole vibes with this, brings back good memories and safer times...
Robert Wilson was a famous Scottish tenor from Cambuslang nr Glasgow, he died in 1965 in Ayr Hospital e

I love this song so much. Especially when you know the background that this song is inspired by the Nataraja depiction of Lord Shiva. As someone who practices a mix of Hindu n Christian beliefs this song best describes my religion.

Free Éire!!
No longer catholic, but this song will always ring happy inside.
😊👍👏
Hear me HAAAAVVVEEE IIIIITTTTT HAAAAVVVEEE IIIIITTTTT ALLLL RRRRRAAAAAAGGGHHHHH 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😁👀🐢☺️
This is how it should be sung, quick tempo! Shame no lyrics! I always forget the middle bit!😊
Also I didn't realise George R R Martin played banjo in the Dubliners 😅🤣😂
Who was singing along with that song
Odd how this song often ends up on the same lists as "Weird" Al Yankovic's "The Saga Begins"
For sure it's hard to dance with th devil on ya back.
🥰🥰
This was great... sorry , but ii like that...
