Thank you Dr. Berry for another very useful video. My husband and I started eating the Keto lifestyle approx 5 weeks ago. We have both lost a few pounds and feel much better removing the excess carbs from our diet. However yesterday I went to see my GP. When she started on me yet again about my weight, she FREAKED when I told her I was doing Keto. Now, I'm scared that this is not the right path for me or my husband. We are both in our 60's, have done our research on the Keto lifestyle, watched your videos along with several other informed doctors so we felt we could do this!. We have adapted to it very easily. Well, except he does really miss his sweet treats. My question, what in the heck do I say to my own physician when she is so against this type of lifestyle? She gave us 3 months to continue but sent me home with lab requisitions for cholesterol blood work to be done. Your opinion or comment?
Michelle Lyon hand your Doctor the Dr Berry's book or The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz. Your doctor needs to get up to date on current research...or get a new doctor. Imho.
Ha! Thank you for the suggestion. She attends classes at a local gym that completely endorses Keto and told me she was appalled at the idea of the diet....told them the fat bombs they provide are going to stick right to their arteries. She sorta scared me...I usually trust her advice. Her husband is a bariatric surgeon and has suggested I consider that route, I flatly refused. I need to lose 50 lbs, not 150.
Michelle Lyon I had bariatric stomach sleeve surgery 4 years ago. I weighed 240 at 5'5. If I had to do it over, I would not. I lost 30 lbs before my actual surgery. I went down to 160 after surgery. But I never changed my head. Regained 40 lbs and would have kept going if I had not started low card, high fat, then keto. I am now a healthy 160 and still losing. But I now have malabsorption of iron and have to get iron infusions. It's hard for me to absorb vitamins and minerals. Never mind the pain after surgery. You're on the right path. Trust your body. All of my blood work panels are outstanding. My BP is 178/28. My skin glows. I'm never hungry. I sleep like a baby. So many positives. My husband also follows. He is now off of statins. His cardiologist supports him. Lucky to have her.
So, true. We agreed that the eating low fat/no fat diet was definitely not working and needed to attempt something drastically different. I pray that in 3 months those numbers do go down so we can prove that we are right in our Keto path! Maybe she will start recommending it to patients instead of prescribing weight lose meds. (which I also attempted but had horrible side effects)
Michelle Lyon There is your answer, if you get healthy by eating healthy and losing weight, you put her husband and big pharma out if business. Trust your instincts, give this 6 months and reevaluate.
I have been a registered ct tech for more than ten years. I see fatty liver on scans every day. The radiologists rarely ever comment on it. I also have had fatty liver disease for most of my life. My lab work continued to come back with a slightly elevated enzymes (ast and alt) for more than 15 years. When I asked the doctor about it. . . It was very evident that he didn't know what it meant. Two different doctors told me it was nothing to be concerned about. My liver was HUGE. My stomach was big and round. Four years ago I got a goiter and my endocrinologist told me to go gluten free. My liver enzymes got better! 2 months ago I decided to go keto. . . Partially from watching your videos 😁 my liver shrank so fast! Before I even lost weight, I had to change to smaller scrubs! Makes me wonder if I had ascites . . But thank you so much for all your information!!! And by the way my enzymes are normal now!
Ginny Davidson how long did it take to get them normal? My enzymes came back ok. We only found it cause we did an ultrasound to see what could possibly be causing me so much pain. Afterward, my dr was so blaze about it. (Like it was nothing to worry about)
Tests: Complete metabolic panel CMP , GGT, C Peptide , Hemoglobin A1c, Ultrasound of abdomen or CAT scan. Have Radiologist comment on presence or absence of Fatty Liver.
In 2009, my cardiologist asked if I had any chest pains. I told him no, but I bent over the other day and got a pain below my diaphragm. Being cautious, he sent me to another doctor who performed a Gastro Exam, Endoscopy and CT Scan of Abdomen. That doctor told me I had fatty liver and mild colonicdiverticulosis. He wanted to take my gall bladder out until I told him the pain only happened when I bent over to pull some weeds. He told me to lose 30 pounds and come back and see him in a month. WHAT??? How is one supposed to lose 30 pounds in a month. He never told me how to fix my fatty liver. Thank you for these instructions. You're the first doctor who has told me how to resolve my fatty liver problem.
I found out a few weeks ago I have fatty liver. I’m insulin resistant too. I’ve been doing keto for 3 months so my doctor said by 12 months is should be almost 100% better. 🤞🤞
Semi Domestic Mom do you get pains from the fatty liver ?? I just got back from the doctors he said he THINKS I have fatty liver .. my ALT count is high right now , I told the doctor I'm afraid it can be cancer and he didn't think much of it
Thank you for this video. My mother and uncle both died of cirrhosis caused by fatty liver disease. One in 2003, one in 2009, both before their 65th birthday. At that time no one would believe they weren't drunks. I am so glad that this is common knowledge these days. I had it too, but reversed it with Keto.
To check for Fatty Liver Disease, have your doctor run a complete metabolic panel. Also a GGT test. Also a C Peptide test. And a Hb A1C test. Then, an imaging test, non-radiating preferred, like ultrasound. Have your doctor ask the radiologist to comment on what he/she sees on the ultrasound or CT scan of your abdominal organs, especially your liver and pancreas. Dr. Berry says that radiologists see so many fatty livers on scans now that they consider it “normal,” and so they may not comment on it. You want the radiologist to especially comment if she/he sees any fat in the pancreas and/or liver.
Just diagnosed with fatty liver and the start of all the "what is going on" testing for me was high iron level in regular blood test. Have done the ultrasound, CT and MRI with the final result being elevated to significant levels of fat on the liver. Fortunate for me my doc isn't a magic pill / surgery type and she flat out told me keto diet is the only proven way to reverse.
My wife has a fatty liver. Has had ultrasounds and a liver biopsy. Wife was told years ago she had a fatty liver but nothing about it or what it does, just go on a low fat diet. Now (years later) they are all up in arms about her fatty liver after an er visit for something else they noticed the fatty liver and told her to get liver checked specifically. She has lost weight and is eating better. She watched your 5 things to avoid and took good notes. Last biopsy mentioned regenerative cells, we hope this means improvement.
I have had CT Scans that show fatty liver problems. I also have several cysts on the liver as well. I have been on a KETO based diet for about a month and I am seeing positive changes in how I feel. Thanks so much for your videos. I am learning an enormous amount of information!!
I was diagnosed with fatty liver when I had emergency gallbladder removal due to gangrene . They told me to lose a little weight and it may help. When I was referred to an endochronologist she told me to try the ketogenic diet that it would be good for me. No one ever explained that corn (which was one of my favorite foods.) was really bad for me. I started researching keto diet and until I found your channel still had no idea. Thanks for the info. I am now following you and will need your advice. Thank you again.
This is EXACTLY the diagnosis I got recently! Had an attack, had gallbladder taken out (with gangrene!), they did a biopsy and found i had NAFLD! Now trying to get off the FIVE types of medications I'm on. There's quite obviously something wrong with, or IN, our food that is causing such an increase in this disease! (and I think it's sugar, carbs, and bad fats!)
During my annual physical a few weeks ago, my MD palpated my liver, and stated that it seems to be enlarged, which was not noted a year ago. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which has been controlled with diet alone. But in the past 6 months or so, I went off my ketogenic diet and indulged in sugary, starchy foods, knowing full well that I was not supposed to eat them on a regular basis, but only once in awhile. I have a liver/pancreas/gall bladder ultrasound scheduled next week. Your videos on fatty liver have been an eye opener! My wife is resistant to eating a keto diet and giving up her sweets and starches - - thankfully for me, she turned the kitchen and cooking over to me about a year ago, so I at least have that going for me. I just have to quit eating candy, sweet pastries and bread, and potato chips which were my downfall this past 6 months. As a retired nurse, I should know better, but I plead being human with faults and foibles!
I would like to suggest that you include some pictures when you discuss physiology in your videos. I am a healthcare professional and have found that people being very visual, like why they are watching your video instead of reading online, will understand better. and see more clearly what you are talking about, especially if they have no medical background. Its kind of like when your wife took us food shopping at Walmart to see products and labels and make suggestions hands on, describing what she was looking for. Then she took us home to your kitchen and continued. I love you and your wife, you are both an inspiration. I would love for you to show what a fatty liver looks like compared to a healthy one, or before and after pics of one that has been improved.
You know, I've been watching Dr. Berry's videos for over a year...and I agree...I love Dr. Berry's simplistic & short videos and they explain things very well and easy to understand for the 'lay man/woman,' but I agree, sometimes a visual would help. I guess he likes to stick to his basic format, though..?
I would disagree. If a person wants to look up fatty live, they can do so in about 5 seconds. Most people just want to know how he can help them. He is direct and to the point. Most people would be bored to death. What kind of medical professional are you since you didn't mention?
I really appreciate your matter of fact information. I am 53 yr old female with type II and have been diagnosed with fatty liver. My doctor didn’t act like it was a big deal and hasn’t advised me to do anything about it. He said it is normal in diabetics. I’m scared so I told my husband I was changing my life he could come along or not but I wasn’t going to have a dead persons liver put in me. Thanks for the info. Keep the info coming.
I told my wife the same thing, that I am changing how I eat. She wants no part of it, despite having lost weight from the keto diet I have been fixing for us for the past year. (Except for the pastries and potato chips and ice cream that have been my downfall recently). She insists on eating her bread and potatoes and corn!
Thank you,Dr. Berry. I was diagnosed with mild/ moderate fatty liver, and I have learned more from you, than the GI ASSOCIATES have told me. I have been doing everything wrong, because I didn't know. Grains, Tylenol, etc., I've never stopped till now. Thank you so much. You're a life saver👍🙏💖
No oatmeal or fruit..oatmeal is said to help lower cholesterol lol..mine is high and I wad just given an ultrasound that found fatty liver. I asked the doctor if you can turn that around and she said no. I will check the keto thing out..I am not a big meat eater. I do eat chicken that's about all the meat I eat besides the fact everything is so expensive. I do love vegetables I love sweets too. So just water and you are told not to drink massive amounts of that either. I feel extremely tired alot knew there was something wrong now I got to get better
Carnevoire Its less expensive than medical Dr's and most of them tell you the wrong thing anyway cause that's what they were taught and junk proceseed food and veggies are toxic watch videos on those So many helpful video's out there then takes our effort and willingness to change and see the light Blessings
I have never been checked for fatty anything. Never heard of it until I found you. Since I have been watching your videos I don't eat until 1 or 2 in the afternoon and I stopped eating it 5 to 6 at night. I have gone from 285 lbs down to 230 lbs. And it's all because of you. I was off of my insulin because they told me I was in the coverage Gap and owed $4,500 before they would give me anymore for the rest of the year which was 9 months worth. So I decided I had to survive so I looked on the internet and found you through James Yeager. My sugars are usually running around 300 which is not good but if I had not been on the ketogenic diet it would be 8 and 900. I'm trying to get back on insulin now but I really don't want to. I have a bad leg and it's hard to try to exercise. But you have save my life and may God bless you richly
Thank you Dr. Berry! I was diagnosed with fatty liver a year ago, which is why I have found you and others regarding diet change and medicines. I've learned so much and do share your videos on my social media. I had an updated ultrasound done 2 weeks ago, and she said my liver looks great! Wanted to know what I had been doing different!!!
KenDBerryMD. In thinking about questions I would ask, one that comes up often is "if I eat just one of these (cookies, mints, candy etc. . .) will it undo everything I've been doing? Meaning what I've been eating the rest of the day? Another question would be options for vegetables, to get enough in our diet, without buying powders and supplements, etc. Also, is it ok not to eat raw - meaning I love love love cabbage, but its cooked in a pressure cooker with bacon and onions. Sometimes cauliflower and its yummy! Just wondering. Thanks so much for all your doing to help us. I hope you do realize how much good you are doing!🔆
A lot of Doctors don't do these extra tests you're talking about like ct scans and MRI unless you're really sick. Even the blood work is basic. I'm going to ask for the ones you mentioned. Thanks for a very informative video. You're educating a lot of people.
How is your fatty liver state now after a year of dieting? I have the same diagnosis as yours. I have eliminated sugar completely from my diet since a month. I eat only small meal once a day. I fast daily
Thank you Doc. I started a new low paying job in 2017, they always have us pizza and cakes for lunch. In 2020, I noticed small white skin patches in my black skin all over my body, in 2019, I noticed a protruding upper belly fat that would not go away with exercise. My diet was good besides eating cakes and pizza monthly at work. I was just diagnosed in March 2022, with NAFLD, fatty liver. In 2021, when I told my PCP doctor about my friend putting hand on my upper belly to ask if I am pregnant and feeling pain on an off in my left lower side of abdomen, and right upper side. Doctor used her cell phone connected to some machine to give me an ultrasound and told me that it is menopause. 6 months after I told her I need more testing and she sent me for a Liver panel test and an ultrasound. Liver test were normal but ultrasound detected FATTY LIVER. I have instantly stop the sugary food and processed food.
I was diagnosed with Fatty Liver 30+ years ago. Back way then 😊 they also do a liver biopsy when blood tests for LFT are high. I was 28 yrs old, weighed 98 lbs (5’0 tall). In my case it’s the long term use of anti inflammatory pills for my Ankylosing Spondylitis. Only a few years ago after Thyroid cancer that I found out that Carbs and sugar and medications all causes fatty liver. I have been doing Keto since 2017 and my LFT, inflammation rate and conversion issues with thyroid meds are all good.
Sadly my uncle passed away this last summer, a lifetime of alcohol abuse and carbs did him in at age 63. Losing his baby brother was a wake up call for my dad though, and he is now healing his body and losing weight eating a keto diet (as am I). My son has a friend, age 19, who knows he has a fatty liver and the friend doesn't seem to care. We have shared with him info on keto/low carb so he can heal, he just isnt interested. It's sad. Thanks for the video doc, I hope it helps someone, anyone get a clue and start healing their body.
I have fatty liver disease. I went to the Emergency department with right side pain and they did a CT and found I have fatty liver. This was 5 years ago and I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 2 years after my fatty liver diagnosis. I have started losing weight with keto. I have lost 33 pounds in the 3 months I have been eating this way. I still have a BMI of 40.5 , so I am still considered obese. I still have pain in my right abdomen and now that I watched this video I know why my upper abdomen protrudes more.
My upper abdomen protrudes and that bothers me since I have always had a flat stomach until the last 10 yrs and was told I have a hernia so disappointed in my doctor he spends time talking to me but never sends me to other doctors. I have Medicare only and guess they are just not interested I. My health. I was seeing a heart doctor until about 5 yrs ago because I have ventricular fibrillation but his help ran me on a treadmill so long I have a strong endurance but I trusted them and my BP was like 180/105 before they said stop 🛑 and now I can’t feel the flutter of my fibrillation and they never apologized for their mistakes just said they were new at it….get some one qualified is all I can say so I quit going to heart specialist after that.
Great videos! I have type 2 diabities or insulin resistance. Since watching your video I have lost 15 LB and feel fantastic and my blood sugar is around 100. Thank you.
The big belly, the type 2 diabetes, over weight, metabolic syndrome, that's me...! I want this test done. I've been fighting this mess for over 10 years and the doctors haven't been a lot of help, even the dietitian and nutritionists didn't say to not eat wheat products. What I've learned I've had to study on my own. I appreciate that you're telling people the truth.
My boyfriend (age 32, 185lb, non drinker) just diagnosed with fatty liver after suffering for over 6 months with swollen and painful lymph nodes in his chest and neck, bloated gut, generally not feeling like himself, he knew something was very wrong. We are fairly active people and eat what we thought was a healthy diet (mostly organic, whole food, and gluten free) One specialist told him he had an allergy to gluten. After changing his diet his symptoms seemed to get worse. Everything we eat is organic and minimally processed, just occasional unhealthy snacks or sodas. If this can happen to him it can happen to anyone. multiple specialists have seen him and finally a Dr did an abdomen CT a week ago and just got the diagnosis over the weekend. DR BARRY have you ever seen swollen lymph nodes along with fatty liver?
I had a cat scan 5 years ago. I weigh 108 lbs. and I'm 5'2" tall I'm 58..I would have never known..I also had brain changes. Elevated Tao proteins..one test from my spinal tap revealed elevated NSE which was 36. That triggered a test for mad cow disease!! Now I know what caused it. I've been struggling to stay on keto but lately my resolve has gotten adamant. Thank you for your enthusiasm! Autophage is the only thing that will clean up all the protein..
Thank you Dr. Berry, you are a blessing from God. I just received a call from my doctor's office staying that I have fatty liver. At first was about to go buy a liver cleanse but after listening to you, say Not to DO It, I quickly changed my mine and am taking your steps to better overall health. God bless you.
My husbands NASH test showed stage 3 . Just finishing up 21 day fast n will ask for a repeat lab test mid March n let u know results. He has lost 18 lbs during the fast. We have also been on keto for the past year. His GGT was normal though. Thank u for all your videos. Have passed your sight to many.
Sebastian Larios he is doing great. His liver ultra sound came back normal liver, no deposits or abnormally. Keto is our new life style of eating n feeling great. Notices decrease in energy at the gym when carbs r added. He has done heavy weight lifting for years but he now sees the difference .Best decision we have ever made
I have fatty liver but my doctors have never told me what to do about it. They just ask me how much I drink. I do not drink alcohol. Thank you for these videos.
I was oblivious to this very real disease until I enrolled in a bariatric surgical program 7 months ago. After extensive lab work and abdominal CT it was confirmed that I do have fairly pronounced fatty liver disease, among other risk factors. My brother died of complications from liver failure last year and I refuse to go down that road. However, even though this program is a very extensive program and many tests must be run and passed, one thing I am concerned about is that the diet program still calls for whole wheat breads. I am slowly reducing all foods containing carbs and it is another hurdle to cross but I am running out of time and I must get my health back.
A year ago I had my thyroid, adrenals and hormones checked and everything came back normal and my doctor then said I’m the healthiest 300 pound man he’s ever seen. I also had A1C and CMP tests no abnormal fatty liver. Wasn’t perfectly healthy but not life threatening. My diet is the sole reason I was overweight, since then I’ve been eating keto since January and have dropped 35 pounds.
I have been diagnosed with fatty liver for several years. I can't seem to change my diet. I'm so mad at myself. My GGT has been as high as 600 but my doctors never seemed to be concerned. I have all the signs you explained.
Thank you doctor . My doctor has casually mentioned I have a fatty liver during CT scans for my kidneys but never says I should do anything about it .it’s certainly something people should start taking a better look at ans try to reverse
I will wait for tests until my wife and I have been on Ketogenic/IF for about a year. I have been sliding farther and farther into bad health playing video games and drinking alcohol (beer and sometimes shots) for all leisure time out of work hours for the last 47 years. Now, I have been on Ketogenic/IF for a couple of months and have lost 24 pounds. I went cold turkey onto OMAD (one meal a day) and have done 2 48hr fasts. I just need to finish cutting out sugars during my one meal. My wife refuses to give up 4 packs of Splenda in her daily glass of tea and keeps buying some foods with sugar added. We mostly eat unprocessed meat and leafy veggies, but, sometimes want nostalgic foods. I don't know if I just failed to see it or if Great Value just started adding sugar to their canned peas. grrrr Edit: oops, Thank you for another great video and all your caring and hard work.
My dad got diagnosed with fatty liver... was two hundreds of a point away from cirrhosis. Him and my mom are finishing up a 21 day fast in addition to doing the keto diet and I'm excited to see what his labs show after the fast.
Your channel is my favorite! Thank you for the truth Dr Berry. God please bless the work of his hands and help him to stay faithful to you in Jesus name!
Yes, I’ve had a CAT Scan showing fatty liver, also elevated AST and ALT. After 20 years of elevated enzymes, I cut carbs and within 3 months my enzymes went back to normal.
I went in for standard blood work as part of my yearly checkup. 2 years ago my triglyceride level was too high, so I quit eating hash browns and reduced how much meat I eat. Last winter I was rechecked and told that my triglycerides were still too high, and I was told to correct this by eating less sugar. My kidney and liver function tests, protein levels, bilirubin levels, and liver enzyme tests were all normal, but I was still slightly overweight with too much abdominal fat. Any extra weight I put on goes right to the abdomen, which is unsightly and probably detrimental to someone with my body type. I did some research and found that some of the foods I was eating contain surprisingly high amounts of sugar. One of the dessert items I would sometimes eat with my boss at lunch contains 1/4 pound of sugar! By eliminating this and some other items, I figure I've reduced my sugar intake by at least 1/2 to 1 pound per week. My abdomen is shrinking, and I am now within medical norms for body mass index. I go in for retesting next month.
I have insulin resistance and found out I have a fatty liver after having covid and getting a ct scan. Went to the nutritionist and now I'm on keto diet and all I hope is I reverse my insulin resistance and help my liver get clean
Used to have pre-fatty liver. I stopped drinking (I was a moderate drinker...now nothing), dandelion tea and blend, milk thistle, lemon water, artichokes and beets. Last CT scan showed no signs of fatty liver. Boom 💥
Thank you. I’ve had a pain in my right side for over two years that varies on the pain scale. Mild, moderate, severe. I can also feel that gravitate to the left now. Sometimes I’ll move and feel a strong “catch” in my side. It’s in the area around kidney, liver, etc. I’ve brought this issue up with three different doctors that never seem to find anything wrong. At this point I don’t know what to ask for. I’m 62, female, don’t over-drink alcohol, eat a so-called normal diet, have 40 pounds to lose that are very stubborn. I mean stubborn. I have had gut issues all my life.
Lynn Faruque adopt the ketogenic lifestyle and see how you feel. Dr Berry and Dr Berg have tons of videos on the subject. Also check out videos of Dr Jason Fung on Intermittent Fasting, this will put you on the right road.
Thank you for the fatty liver video. Had an ultra sound less than 11 years ago to check gall bladder, they found fatty liver and I believe I have issues with insulin resistant since I was a teenager (was not fat at a teen but was a "carbivore" mostly since then up to my late 40's to early 50's. Almost a year (Sept 2019 til now have been Paleo 20/80, keto since April though not consistent. Also, doing intermittent fasting which works for me. Lost 25 - 30 lbs since January 2020. If I eat too many carbs, my liver and pancreas lets me know it with twinge of pain. Emotional strain dealing with the Covid 19 situation and early retirement alone I fall off the Keto - Paleo wagon. Quit a store part-time job (lasted a month) stress and Covid -19 risk because an average of 100 - 200 customers come in the store during a 5 hour shift. I have boat loads of protein for the winter. I needed the beJesus scared out of me since I am not a spring chicken. Thank you.
I have elevated liver functions and I'm going for a ultrasound. I've been Keto for almost 2 years, now. Started at 295 lbs. I lost 60 lbs in the first 10 months, then it's been a year taking off 25 lbs. I'm a 65 year old woman. I'm pretty sure this WOE has kept me from being a dietbetic. Added note: I only drank alcohol socially but in large amounts before I was 50. Then socially with a drink or two. Totally stopped 2 years ago when I went Keto.
Dr Ken I was diagnosed with fatty liver. I started doing weight watchers. After a year and yo-yo ing I decided a week ago to go keto. I could not lose anymore on their program. Been watching all your videos
Thank you so much Dr. Berry ! Absolutely love your advice on Fatty Liver and all the other Medical Conditions you cover. You are an ANGEL ! I am from Sydney Australia ! Yes ! Down Under and your advice could literally be saving my life and my children's. Bless You Dr. Berry !
Dr Berry, I am so grateful for your work and your videos!! You have helped me so tremendously!! I have received an invaluable education on very, very important health issues!! I recently joined your patreon account, and even though I realize it’s a very small amount, it’s my way of giving back a little. Thank you so very much!!
Two fairly new tests are more definitive in diagnosing NASH. LabCorp, and possibly others, do a test called FibroSure -a non-invasive liver biopsy test. Also there is a new scan called a Fibroscan that is essentially a specialized ultrasound that will classify what stage of NASH someone finds themselves at.
Saw another video where it said signs of liver disease/issues are: chicken skin, cracked skin on feet, feet problems, spider veins, red dots, etc. Been eating carnivore since Feb and my skin is best it's ever been.
Thank you so much Dr. Berry, I had no idea my health was this bad! my doctor didn't explain to me. It was this serious! I love all your videos they are very helpful and you have answered all my questions regarding my over 307 high cholesterol and high triglycerides.
2 weeks ago I was hit with Type 2 Diabetes and lower Kidney function 62 to 53 (kidney failure) a week after that the ER while checking for kidney stones with a CT scan discovered i had NAFLD; didn't mention it, but i read it in the report. I've been having blood work done every 6 mths and no one said anything until now. I wish i had known what to ask for earlier so i could work toward keeping major organs healthy. btw have been following ketovore type of diet and it's extremely easy, blood sugar #'s are way down, losing weight and i don't feel like i'm having to starve myself. Thank you Dr. Berry for your extremely informative videos; i feel more in control of my health and have a much better understanding of what is going on and how to make corrections. other than you have type 2 diabetes "keep hydrated" advice from my Dr. lol
Notes to me for upcoming appointment: LABWORK >Metabolic Panel: CMP (includes alkaline phospatase >GGT gamma-gluterine transfertase >C-peptide >Hemoglobin-A1C IMAGING >Ultrasound of abdomen (fatty streaking in liver/pancreas) *>Ask doc to have radiologist to comment "about the presence or absence of fatty liver"
I had been having horrible heartburn for years. Acid reflux etc. Finally I had an episode of vomiting where upon I broke a couple blood vessels in my eye ( at Thanksgiving). My Dr told me these holidays is GALLBLADDER SEASON, and I needed mine out because I had massive gallstones. I asked him how rare the surgery was. He told me GALLBLADDER surgery is a Surgeons Bread and Butter". When I talked to the surgeon, he said "Surgeons remove an average of 100, 000 gallbladder annually!". WTH is going on with gallbladders? So I had mine removed right before Christmas. By April 1st I was rushed to ER in FULL Jaundice. The surgeon decided not to do the full check on making sure ALL gallstones were removed. That meant 2 more surgeries..one to endoscopicly remove the stone and implant a " stent" while the area healed, and then 3 months later ANOTHER surgery to have it removed. Thanks surgeon! Pass me the Bread and Butter! Or at least the butter, and Ill put it in my coffee☕😉
Having GI issues along with pain URQ; labs for AST and ALT were normal, as were the rest except hemoglobin low. I had a limited abd US and was told today that I have NAFL. My right side pain is pretty bad; also have fatigue, fast weight increase, and hx of low vit D (16). GI said to stop simple carbs and eat low fat (I'm not a big red meat eater, maybe once a month); I do try to get all organic foods and eat loads of healthy veggies. I think pasta is my downfall. Having an endo/colonoscopy in 2 weeks to figure out the rest of my issues. Ovarian and colon cancer run in my family. Glad I found your channel. 🙏🏻
A few years ago I had an ultrasound for my gallbladder and it took a very long time because my liver completely obscured it. When my primary MD reviewed it with me he merely made side mention that radiology said I have fatty liver disease.
KenDBerryMD I also have high cholesterol (8.4) it used to be (10) and high Uric acid as well but no sign of gout. I've lost 12-14 lbs since Jan 30th. I started at 322
KenDBerryMD I did fix my fatty liver with the keto diet (my Dr recommended keto because she diagnosed me with T2D). 3 months after starting keto, all liver enzymes normal A1c down to 5 1 from 7.1 at T2D diagnosis). All labs normal with the exception of triglycerides (11 points above normal). I expect this week's labs to be even better! I began 8 month of keto today!
I was diagnosed with fatty liver about 10 years ago. All my doctor kept saying was to stop drinking. I kept telling her that I don’t drink. Every few months more bloodwork gets done. Again she says you really need to stop drinking, again I say, I don’t drink. This went on for about 2 years. I went to see a naturopath who said you just need to cleanse your liver, eat kale, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach and Brussel sprouts. This will clear things up. After six months of eating these vegetables my numbers went down by about 20. I was at 205 now I’m 285. Doctor kept telling me to stop drinking and I lost my s*#% on her. I was yelling at her and saying if you’re not going to believe me I don’t see why I have to keep going through all this, talk to anyone that knows me. I’ll bring them in on my next appointment. She then finally said ok I’ll send you for an ultrasound. Shocking news… I have NAFLD. 🤦♀️ since then I have not had bloodwork done or have I been accused of drinking. I also haven’t been given any other instructions on what to do about it. All I’m told is not to worry about it as my numbers are not high enough to be concerned, a liver specialist won’t consider seeing you until your numbers hit 500 or more. Well, that makes me feel so much better 🤦♀️🤷♀️. My son in law started the carnivore diet a few months ago and what a difference it has made for him. I am now very curious about it so I started doing some research and kept hearing about Dr. Berry. Today I decided to watch some of your videos and I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Everything you have said has now given me hope and I will be cleaning my kitchen over the weekend and freezer next week so I can start a carnivore diet very soon. The food bank is going to get a lot of cans and boxes. I am looking forward to the changes that are in my near future. Thank you for your work and putting it out gear so we can benefit from it
I have a fatty liver, also been on Keto since 9/09/19,have not lost a pound as on today 12/03/19...just thinking IR AND FATTY LIVER.. but I feel so much better...love you ..hugs to you and your family❤️
I had ultra sound, metabolic panel ,liver biopsy and liver function test. After chemo I was diagnosed with NASH.I am obese and it hard to lose weight.I believe I still have it even though I am told I don't. I still get metabolic panel done and told everything is fine.
Yes both ct and ultra sound went to the emergency room with severe gastritis, and they found that I had fatty liver, but never even told me I was reading over the paperwork and it said that I had hepatic stenosis, and I looked it up and realized I had fatty liver, so I went and listen to your videos no carbs no sugar nothing for two months and I reversed it. They did a Phibro scan and I had no more fatty liver I had reversed it. Thank you.
I have been told I have a fatty liver, not an alcohol drinker, was an avid soda drinker and eat the American tasty junk foods. Recently been starting a Keto lifestyle.
@@KenDBerryMD Dr. Berry, have you read Sugar Blues by William Dufty? It opened my eyes WIDE! (The sugar lobby is possibly the most insidious organization in history)
Thank you Dr. Berry for this video. I wish I would have known about this 20 years ago. I had my gallbladder removed the doctor took a biopsy of my liver and showed me photos of my liver. With no helpful direction as to what to do but go on a diet. The biopsy came back normal so I wasn't worried a year later I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
Hello Dr Berry your videos are always helpful. I am an active sports person but I have had Diabetes issues! I went on a Vegan - Keto diet some time ago! Which is Keto without meat. I eat only starch free and low carb vegetables. I do not eat fruit. My I have my eyes checked every year now and my eye specialist tells me absoultley no damage to my eyes which he said I can not tell your Diabetic from your eyes. I have had good results also with my heart and my Liver does not have fat in it. My blood pressure has dropped so significantly that the two blood pressure medications I was on I no longer have to take. Mind you I also drink 1L of Sencha or MATCH Green tea a day, also have about one swig of Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother every day! And also drink plenty of water🙂. I also have a lot more energy 🙂.
I have fatty liver, ascites and was recently diagnosed with diabetes I am working on helping all of this thru the Keto diet. So far in 2 weeks I've dropped 20 lbs and have normalized my A1C and my blood glucose numbers are awesome! Still more weight to lose but doing Keto along with intermittent fasting is helping greatly. I recently messaged my hepatologist about my pancreas. She answered this way: Hi Keli, Your imaging has never described a fatty pancreas. It is described as "atrophic", which implies you have chronic pancreatitis or a scarred pancreas. Much like the liver, a fatty pancreas is often the precursor to this scarring. Thanks for the smile today :) Funny thing is I have none of the symptoms of chronic pancreatitis but I do have symptoms with the fatty liver. Mainly having ascites, (upper belly swelling and fluid) and yellowing of my eyes. All that is slowly getting better with my diet change and the following weight loss. I was never given meds for these issues and if they were offered I would refuse. I told my doctors to just wait and see. I'm gonna fix as much of this as I can thru diet and exercise. The exercise is mainly to help with my osteoporosis. LOL! I'm a hot mess! I'm blessed to have some great doctors!
My GP told me I had fatty liver disease but lightly added it was from the American diet. She never explained the danger. she is so good in many ways but..........
Thanks for the video, all of them in fact. Just wanted to let you know and IT MIGHT BE ME but your video doesn't seem to match up quite right with your audio. This could be that you have way to many videos stored on your computer. I suggest you have a backup drive and put your videos you wish to save as well as future videos and save them to the drive and not your hard drive on board of your computer. I could be wrong, but just a thought. I have had this issue myself so thought I could be of some help to you since your always helping me and others.❤️
Yes its just the last few from him. Not all the people I am subscribed to and I am subbed to quite a few and try and watch if not just listen to them all so I am sure its not me. I am on a mac However I have noticed this before and its usually the recording. Either the camera or phone whichever is being used is bogged down with files or even to many applications. Clean up a few of those and problem solved. Only in rare cases where your internet connection is slow would you have an issue but in the case with Dr. Berry's video's its so slight that I can see how many people might not notice anything. I do listen at times in the background while doing other things. I also change the speed to some people's videos so I can get through them faster because I play videos from begining to end to help with watch time for those I am subbed to. I always Like their video and share when and where I can if I find it could be useful to others.
Dr. Berry is the only one person that I have encountered this out of sync issue. Others have talked about it since it started. Dr. Berry doesn't notice the comments about this however, so it seems.
Sam Jefferson......I have the same problem, started recently, I can't watch either as it makes me dizzy. I guess I'm too finicky trying to make his words match the movement of his mouth. I hope it gets corrected very soon. I love his videos, very educational.
I also appreciate the content, however I have noticed the out of sync audio and visual in the past few videos. I use closed captioning for TH-cam and they don't work on these out of sync videos.
Yes I have and my doctor never said anything one way or another. Didn't know it was a bad thing till five or six years later when that doctor retired and I had to seek other primary care physician. Then I got the information that I needed. Started to stay away from sugars, alcohol and starches and lost 80 pounds in a year. No exercise just doing everyday routines. I damaged my liver in the past by not living well but I'm trying to not do anymore damage going forward that I can.
Hi Dr Berry thank you for your video. I think I have Fatty Liver disease. I have taken medication for RA since I was 6 years old. I am 55 years old now, In the last 12 months I've noticed the top part of my stomach is extremely bloated, every time I eat (Not real hungry though) I sweat as if ive come out of a shower, my legs are bruised for no reason, I was itching a great deal and they put me on amnytryptaline, as a nerve/pain block (itching is not there; but I can't get anyone to listen, they don't seem concerned. I am waiting on surgery for total ankle replacement and have a torn tendon, standing for any length of time is difficult. I am on Lefludamide, prednisone, Naproxine, Paracode, tramadol and severadol. It was my daughter who's training to be a naturapath that said it was Fatty liver. My last blood test came back as border line diabetic... Any advise....:)
I have had all tests done since I have type 2 diabetes, PCOS, and they said my ALT/AST levels showed beginning signs of fatty liver. I've had an ultrasound done though and the radiologist said there weren't any signs there and everything looked good in the pancreas, liver, and gallbladder. I am now starting Ketogenic diet after watching yours and Dr. Berg and ask nurse Cindy. Seems to be the link I am missing in getting my A1C down, helping my struggles with infertility, and my overall general health. Sharing with my PCOS group now!
(Like it was nothing to worry about)
You only get ascites when you have cirrhosis

@@Libertyloverofchrist apparently, it's not really a big deal from their house. . My doctor was very unconcerned about my goiter as well. .
You will cure your fatty liver with the keto diet

KenDBerryMD -- please!! No pictures of a liver -- healthy or otherwise.
Kaylee I would like to see those too. I have seen ones with cirrhosis and healthy, but never a recovered one.
Agree. Visuals would be very helpful.

So just water and you are told not to drink massive amounts of that either. I feel extremely tired alot knew there was something wrong now I got to get better

Awesome! Thank you so much for watching and sharing! Any ideas for future videos?

Good for you, stopping the sugar. I have such a sweet tooth it’s a struggle.
I am curious about this case. What is current status ?

I was oblivious to this very real disease until I enrolled in a bariatric surgical program 7 months ago. After extensive lab work and abdominal CT it was confirmed that I do have fairly pronounced fatty liver disease, among other risk factors. My brother died of complications from liver failure last year and I refuse to go down that road. However, even though this program is a very extensive program and many tests must be run and passed, one thing I am concerned about is that the diet program still calls for whole wheat breads. I am slowly reducing all foods containing carbs and it is another hurdle to cross but I am running out of time and I must get my health back.
You will...you are determined!! Good luck 😃
I was just told I have fatty liver and am doing all the research I can.
I have fat in my liver.
I am gonna do what you said.
I got rid of fat in my liver, yet it came back.
I am gonna make long term changes in my diet.
My dad got diagnosed with fatty liver... was two hundreds of a point away from cirrhosis. Him and my mom are finishing up a 21 day fast in addition to doing the keto diet and I'm excited to see what his labs show after the fast.
yes yes, please share the results with us!
Your channel is my favorite! Thank you for the truth Dr Berry. God please bless the work of his hands and help him to stay faithful to you in Jesus name!
Just watching this video and noticed that Dr Berry looks older here than he does now. Shows his WOE works. Looking quite a bit younger now.
yes, I have had these tests and was diagnosed with fatty liver
Me toooo😓
What did you do about it and how are you now?
@@empielouw5161 me to
Yes, I’ve had a CAT Scan showing fatty liver, also elevated AST and ALT.
I go in for retesting next month.
what was the dessert???
@Elvis Edge RR Woodward Inquiring minds want to know? lol
Yes. But he just said we took a fatty liver test. Now I know what to ask for. Thank you
I have insulin resistance and found out I have a fatty liver after having covid and getting a ct scan.
Boom 💥
wow god for u
I recently had a cat scan done and the radiologist noted in the report that I have a fatty liver
I dont even have to test..I already know.
Added note:
I only drank alcohol socially but in large amounts before I was 50.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing! Any ideas for future videos?
KenDBerryMD I’ve been in my keto diet now for two weeks. First week I lost two pounds and this week I went up two lb#.

I have never had any of these tests. However, listening to you, I am going to look into getting these tests.
Berry for your extremely informative videos; i feel more in control of my health and have a much better understanding of what is going on and how to make corrections. other than you have type 2 diabetes "keep hydrated" advice from my Dr. lol
Hi Kathleen! How’re you doing?
Notes to me for upcoming appointment:
LABWORK
>Metabolic Panel: CMP (includes alkaline phospatase
>GGT gamma-gluterine transfertase
>C-peptide
>Hemoglobin-A1C
IMAGING
>Ultrasound of abdomen (fatty streaking in liver/pancreas)
*>Ask doc to have radiologist to comment "about the presence or absence of fatty liver"
Luv this channel. Always great content. My go to channel for carnivore lifestyle.
Subscribers going up!!! Good on you Doc!!!
A few years ago I had an ultrasound for my gallbladder and it took a very long time because my liver completely obscured it. When my primary MD reviewed it with me he merely made side mention that radiology said I have fatty liver disease.
Thank you! I don’t have insurance so I can’t get these tests but I have an appointment with you today.
I have non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Thank you for this video!
came here to find out if I have a fatty liver and still don't know
This couldn't of come out at a more perfect time. Just got my blood test back and my enzymes are high (36)
That's bad news. The good news is that you can fix your liver with the keto diet
Thank you for your work and putting it out gear so we can benefit from it
Your videos are wonderfully presented. Authentic logical and especially hopeful and so so empowering. Thank you for your honesty.
I have a fatty liver, also been on Keto since 9/09/19,have not lost a pound as on today 12/03/19...just thinking IR AND FATTY LIVER.. but I feel so much better...love you ..hugs to you and your family❤️
Could you do a video on liver care after gallbladder removal?
I was a shift worker for 32 years..lots of 12 hour nights...I don't drink, and eat healthy,...I believe sleep deprivation effected my liver health.
I had ultra sound, metabolic panel ,liver biopsy and liver function test. After chemo I was diagnosed with NASH.I am obese and it hard to lose weight.I believe I still have it even though I am told I don't. I still get metabolic panel done and told everything is fine.
Wow, just found you today, and feel so fortunate! Thanks for your efforts! Very good info!
Thank you.
Yes I did the test both blood work and ultrasound and it’s confirmed that I have fatty liver.
I have been told I have a fatty liver, not an alcohol drinker, was an avid soda drinker and eat the American tasty junk foods. Recently been starting a Keto lifestyle.
Good, you have to STOP the junk food/drink! Keto is the way
SUGAR!!! Listen to your body. Cut out added sugar. Your body will thank you.
Yes, bad medical care is out there. Hope you are better.
Yes. I have fatty liver from ultrasound image
She answered this way:
Hi Keli,
Your imaging has never described a fatty pancreas. It is described as "atrophic", which implies you have chronic pancreatitis or a scarred pancreas. Much like the liver, a fatty pancreas is often the precursor to this scarring.
Thanks for the smile today :)
Funny thing is I have none of the symptoms of chronic pancreatitis but I do have symptoms with the fatty liver.
I have had an ultrasound and was told I have a fatty liver. I am diabetic.
IDK about a fatty liver, but I sure have punished mine throughout my life!
If you have adrenal fatigue do you have fatty liver? Do they coincide?
I was never checked for fatty liver
Give it a bit perhaps he will. If not we will listen and not watch LOL...he rocks forward and backwards and sometimes it makes me nervous LOL
Yes I have it.
Had the test..it was ugly. Fixin it..
I have pain with my Fatty Liver. Had all of these tests also.
