      Thanks for that - very detailed comment and some very good thoughts there! Pretty sure this is still in production as you can easily get it for good price and I still see it displayed widely in dealers. The band on my plain version is just resin, but there are versions where there is CF mixed in for extra durability.
      I was aware of the different firmware / software between models, but thanks for the reminder and details.

      I have this watch for two years. I am sailor. So the watch is everyday in the water salt and fresh water in the shower. So...how long do you guys think that this G-Shock can last under this heavy use?...
      Cheers watch people

      The resin may wear down and need replacement, but the core module should last as long as you need it

    Top tip. If you live in Australia (or anywhere else outside the atomic clock signal range) set the home city to Tokyo, and leave your watch around your bike frame overnight (or any other metal structure). This will tend to amplify the signal, and voila! You can synchronise your watch. The following morning just set city back to SYD or PER etc. It works!

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah some people mentioned that method, although others have tried and found it did not work. Pretty sure it won’t in Perth... Brisbane might have a chance.

    I have a GW-9400, a GWG-2000, and a Proteck with the movable compass ring. Great watches! I have these for a number of years. I bought the GWG-2000 a year ago. Expensive but is terrific. It is a bit more complicated to use. The Proteck is solar and radio time adjusted. I am located in Canada, and therefore the radio setting works often.

    I have the Rangeman for 4 years now. For serious outdoor activities, it's more likely I wear the Rangeman.... But I have the Mudmaster GWG-1000 too and it is a beautiful watch man. I wear it for hiking, camping and as an everyday use watch. Also it hasn't got a snooze function and only a 60 min. countdown unlike the Rangeman. The Mudmaster is more twice the price of the Rangeman. But if you have the money and you can afford it get it. I purchased mine as an Xmas gift for myself. Sometimes you're allowed to fancy yourself 😉😉.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey there, thanks for the comment! Great to hear of your own experiences with these two watches. For myself I now honestly give the Rangeman significantly more time, however I do love the Mudmaster - main thing stopping me from wearing more is its sheer size which doesn't make it suitable for as many contexts IMO. If only I had bigger wrists and arms :)

      Perth WAtch The Rangenan is a sweet watch. You can wear your Mudmaster around your biceps 😎😎😉😉. Well I got the Mudmaster since december, so it is now my new fav, but still love and wear the Rangeman. There will be a new Rangeman coming out in 2018. Fully digital, bluetooth. If you have time check it out.

      Hahaha Ok I will try to fit it around the bicep! :)

      Perth WAtch I am pro independant watches. Tough Solar and Time keeping. That's why I don't like smart watches in the sense that they need to be charged constantly and that the life spam of the battery is an issue too. Besides that, all the software update. Hope G-Shock isn't going in that direction, it'll suit the Pro-Trek more.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha at first I thought you were referring to independent watch brands! Good thought, and instinctively that's why I like solar watches among the quartz choices. Yes I think if the need to charge is significant, that would be a serious bother to me... I used a FitBit for a whole year (this was before I became interest in watches) and that was the main reason why I stopped.

    Still a fantastic watch now in 2020. Mine gets more wrist time than any other watch I own. Syncs every night with the atomic clock, battery is always on the full mark, takes a daily beating and all functions are 100%. If you don't have one, get one!

    I have 12 G-SHOCK and I have all four mud masters but I never owned a rangeman, this is perfect for me
    1) perfect size
    2)has solar
    3)has triple sensors just in case u need it
    4)it’s very rugged looking which I like a lot
    Only thing I’m not happy with is the mineral glass but it’s not a huge deal for me as I don’t go hiking or in extreme conditions but it would be nice to have sapphire glass too

    Super review! Easily one of the best. I bought the GG1000 without understanding what I was buying, It was an impulse buy. I really like the GG1000 a lot and have been struggling with buying the GWG1000 because I would feel like I had duplicated my effort and would be paying a premium for my haste. Someone might say sell the GG1000. Can't do it , I like it too much. Enter the Rangeman 9400 . Problem solved. All the features plus sunrise sunset, only $200.00. I can deal with a $200 fix over a $500 fix. You buy screen protectors for little more than $10.00 on amazon , this solves the sapphire lens dilemmac. I should see my new Rangeman by the end of the week. Can't wait. Now I must stop watching these G Shock videos. I want them all.

      Haha thanks for that, glad you found this video helpful! I'm sure you will enjoy the Rangeman, it is an awesome watch. Screen protector is an interesting idea but thanks to the substantial G-Shock resin bezels I've never bothered and also haven't had a problem :)

      @@PerthWAtch Both my GG1000 and Protrek WSD-20 smart watch have a stupid little hair type scratch right across the face. It's just visible enough for me to see so that's why I go with the sceen protector, usually 3 to 5 come in a pack. If you scare one up you can pop a new clean one on. They are very durable, I haven't had to change one out yet . Both watches have a substantial bezel, just my luck. Thanks for commenting back.

    Just got hold of a GW-9400 (and love it), so of course I'm only now coming across this video, which covers the watch's details nicely: One interesting you mention vis-a-vis the Rangemaster is the latter's vibration-resistance tech: as I see it, the Rangeman doesn't *need* "vibe resist" on account of the module having no moving parts, as opposed to the and-digi hybrid module of the Mudmaster, where the analog bits would indeed need toughening-up to avoid going out of alignment. As far as Casio downplaying the mud/dust-resistant properties of the Rangeman (presumably to better emphasize the same properties of the newer Mudman/Mudmaster Gs), I'll just echo the opinion of other TH-cam folks pointing out that Casio merely painted themselves into a corner by making the Rangemaster *too* good (if that's actually a thing). Clearly, the more-astute part of the watch marketplace has spoken, since the Rangeman seems to remain a bestseller.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for taking the time to make these detailed comment and thoughts - much appreciated! You make some excellent points there about this module not requiring vibe resistance.

    Can you wear this watch backwards on your wrist without tripping the auto light function continually. That doesn't mean to disable the function either. I'm hoping that it works just fine either front facing or rear facing.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What an odd question... in what situation would be beneficial to wear a watch backwards?? For what it's worth the auto light doesn't trigger backwards, it has to be tilted 40deg forward to trigger.

    • @KhaosWolf94
      @KhaosWolf94 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PerthWAtch its a matter of preference, it feels. More natural to look at wrist inward then looking at the back of my hand for my watch.
      Try it once and you'll notice it's much easier to rotate just the lower part of your arm to see the watch if you wear it upside down like that - as opposed to having to rotate your arm and raise your elbow to see it get a better view of your watch when it is on your wrist.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I see what you mean... yes the human arm moves like that more naturally. But you said backwards, although that's actually just worn on inner surface... backwards implied upside down to me, which is why I was perplexed.

      @@PerthWAtch no worries, with the confusion cleared up will the g shock watch auto light function normally with the afore mentioned style of wearing the timepiece? If you could actually try it and see that'd be a huge help. Perhaps even a video demonstrating the ergonomics of the style and how manipulating the watch looks/feels wearing it in this way.
      I have scowered the internet and have yet to see one like that, i think it would be quite insightful and doesn't have to be long.
      But again, if you could give it a try and be sure the auto light functions normally on the 'opposite' side of the wrist, per se, I'd be incredibly grateful.
      Subbed.

    Between this model and Mudmaster GWG-1000, which one do you recommend? I would appreciate your answer, I understand that this model does not have mud resistance, and the mud master yes, why is that? do you have any special filter?

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually water resistance pretty much equates to mud resistance in most people’s view. The GWG-1000 gives a tough solar movement with analog display, and vibration resist along with sapphire. But of course costs much more... if you want value, go with the GW9400, but if you like the extra specs and can stretch it, the Mudmaster gives that extra “cred” :)

    Hi there! I just purchased this watch five days ago and as you've said it is a great looking watch,but ive noticed something in the display that made me watch this video of yours three times in a row. The digits of the watch that I bought fades when viewed in some angles even looking at it directly in front makes it slightly fade. Is this normal? Does your rangeman do this too? Because after watching your video as I've said three times in a row I did not see it fade. Is it maybe because of the lighting?? Do I have to bring it to casio service center because I dont want to return it coz its the last piece they have of this model and its very hard to find this model nowadays.Can you or anyone here please tell me if they have this same issue and what you or they did to resolve it.Thank you very much in advance and by the way ,great video !

      Thank you very much for the comment. Mine does not have a noticeable problem, it fades on side viewing say around more than 30 degree angle from direct but that's quite normal I think. As far as I can tell based on what others have commented here it may be a batch issue, as in certain production runs may suffer the problem, so if yours is like that it's kinda bad luck. One solution may be to hang on to it and try to source one from a local dealer (so you can check in person), then return the defective one. All the best! Ivan.

    I have a contrast issue with this watch. The digits looks faded when looked directly at it, the same effect as when you tilt a little a normal one. Guess it's a glass anti reflection error.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback Miguel. It seems fine on mine when viewing directly... I find the fading (typical of LCD displays) occurs mostly when viewed from above horizontal or from the right... Which incidentally is kinda most desirable for when the watch is worn on the left wrist. Design fluke or intentional? Probably the latter I reckon!

    • @Miguel-cq1ms
      @Miguel-cq1ms 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Perth WAtch thanks for the answer. It's a similar effect as with low battery power, only more subtle and it's fully charged. I went back to the same store I bought and they didn't noticed the flaw. They showed me the other ones they had and were all the same except for the Burton. This was the only one with good contrast. So I guess either Casio changed the display, the glass or maybe even a bad production batch. Either way, I'm trying to send it for repairs. Thanks again.

    I wish the circle on the face of this watch was like the Riseman (with the barometer reading ). It's just eye candy in regular time ( showing the indicators for the seconds ) , it's only good in the Compass mode , even though it's small. The Altimeter and Barometer mode it is hard to see the individual indicators. It would of been better if the circle could of shown the Barometer reading and the Compass reading. Now if you want to see the the Barometer reading in the timekeeping mode , you then don't see the day of the week. Casio for years has loved to show the seconds or minutes in either circular or boxed segments in there watches as well as of course the numeral seconds. It's still a nice watch , I have this one you are showing , the olive green negative display one , the sunrise purple and the Burton white one. Had the red one but sold it on ebay.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I have read about that, many fans seem to wish that the circle was more like the Riseman. Nice range of models you have - the red one you had, was it the *Men in Rescue Red* or the *Kobe City Fire Bureau* version? The latter one I think looks awesome but is rare and has become crazy expensive! Short of that I might consider grabbing a yellow one which I fancy as an out-there color to put on the wrist :)

    • @zackamanda9799
      @zackamanda9799 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't know it by any name other then a Red Rangeman. It was red with white lettering. I had the Red Mudman as well but sold that one too. It definitely wasn't the Kobe City Fire Bureau , that watch is to pricey for me. I have one yellow G-Shock , the GWN1000-9A Gulfmaster

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok yeah, that'll be the *GW-9400RD* "Men in rescue red" one. Wish I could've caught the fire red one when it first came out, would probably have been reasonable price for a watch that appreciates in value! Cheers, Ivan.

    Hi, do you buy local or online? I don't live close enough to Perth to visit retailers and have always shopped online. Is it worth buying local or do we pay for the privilege for living in WA with watches as well?

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve - oh we definitely pay for watches here, as with almost everything else unfortunately! Much as I am for supporting locals the prices are marked up pretty high... Only on clearance do they become reasonable I find. I have picked up a couple of pieces locally like that, but this one is from online. Also if >$1000 I have never ordered from overseas as I don't want to deal with the tariff issues. Sounds like you're already quite experienced with online buying, but I did an eBay tips video if you're interested. Cheers, Ivan.

      Perth WAtch thanks mate. Have been buying online for 10+ years. Have also bought gear over $1k and it's not that bad. Just takes an additional week normally because you have to pay the gst and handling which was $70 the last time I did it.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah I see... I'm sure you should have no problem getting this online. Just to clarify, you mean you have to pay 10% of item value in GST AND then you had to pay $70 handling on top? Depending on the item this could blow the price out a bit it seems...?

    • @stevekjellgren9909
      @stevekjellgren9909 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GW-9400 Rangeman no question... it's a G-Shock and it's got the AT-sync where the Pro-Trek does not. Also has steel buttons and the one-touch start button for stopwatch which is unique.
      However in comparison with the Pro-Trek the compass function is harder to use. The Pro-Trek is also less than half the price, is smaller/thinner, and has a larger time display for easier read. If purely for trekking then the Pro-Trek is better.

    • @loneexplorer5067
      @loneexplorer5067 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PerthWAtch Thanks! This is for purely trekking. I think I'm better off with the PRG-270-2.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Joel - thanks for your question. Just to clarify, the Pro Trek range has *many models* with watches from below $200 to around the $1500 range, although by and large they have many common features throughout. I would say that what you choose depends a lot on how much beating the watch will take (the Rangeman is tougher than any Pro Trek) and how easily you need to able to read/access the functions (Pro Trek generally better, *especially* comparing the compass on the Rangeman) among other issues. I have done a few Pro Trek reviews:
      - PRG-40 (no longer produced): th-cam.com/video/FM18GfD-ZmE/w-d-xo.html
      - PRG-270: th-cam.com/video/0BBmfg_rsYo/w-d-xo.html

    i have a riseman and i'd just like to share that even though i'm out of range from the 6 broadcasters of atomic timekeeping radio waves (i'm from the Philippines), i find the watch receiving a 3 bar signal whenever there is a strong typhoon coming in. i'm not sure from where my riseman is receiving the said radio waves, but the 2 nearest transmitting stations to me are in japan and in china.
    like i said, it doesn't happen often but it be can construed as an unusual treat.

      Hi there, yes the barometer does have a function where it will beep to indicate a significant change in pressure detected. I do not have much knowledge of meteorology hence cannot say how much advance warning of a storm this may provide. For specific info on the watch function see manual page 65 here: support.casio.com/storage/en/manual/pdf/EN/009/qw3410.pdf
      For more useful help and feedback, I would recommend enrolling in a good forum (e.g. WatchUSeek) and posting your question there. Cheers, Ivan.

      It lets you know when there’s a significant drop or climb in pressure associated with impending frontal passage. While not 100%, I would definitely rely on it when I’m in the sticks with no other weather resources.
