Nice! Make sure to double triple check if your specific motherboard is compatible because there are only a few that are. Most are for intel processors, there is only like 1 for amd motherboards atm!
I had nearly the exact same experience as you: buying an Apollo product, and a Thunderbolt expansion card, not realizing my motherboard was incompatible with the Thunderbolt expansion card that I had installed... I wish I had seen this video a few months ago... lol my bad

Good review! The mix with UAD sounds better for sure, it sounds full and round, while old mix kinda falls "to the mid".
NOTE: if you consider getting a new motherboard, keep in mind there is some BIOS configurations needed to do so the system recognizes TB card.

About the motherboard thing, that is definitely true. You need to be somewhat a tech guy to get this device working on windows (or you just buy a whole new PC/Laptop with Thunderbolt built in)
@@JWLEGACY Not sure what motherboard you're looking at, but I've been building a PC to replace my mac in my studio and have gone with a Ryzen 3700x CPU and an Asrock x570 itx / tb3 motherboard that has thunderbolt onboard, so no need for a card. Also, it's an ITX board so fits in a tiny case.
@@Lee-xs4dj Hey Lee, I have looked at that, but I went for a motherboard with intel CPU because they hat ATX sized motherboards with thunderbolt 3 (my graphics card would have problems with the ITX size).
Heyy, I'm having hard time setting plugins to work right when opened in FL ( I'm on Mac as well ) but as you can see plugins look different when opened in FL and when opened if Console. Did you maybe figure out the way how to change presets in plugins opened in FL Studio? Are there some settings that need to be adjusted to get list of actual presets when working from FL?

Obviously UAD plugins mix, it give little warm and bright tone in the mix. It creates energy in mix comparing to original
I got windows 10 with a usbc port. So i got a adapter for my thunderbolt 3 cord, I tried updating the firmware and downloaded the update for thunderbolt driver and the computer says the ua device may not work properly and ua connect app doesn't recognize the interface

Hey, check out my other video. I show there how I made it work on my windows computer. I did upgrade my motherboard & processor to have TB3 port. I still had to do some workarounds which are shown in the other video to make it work flawlessly

Good video. I'm about to get an Apollo. They have a USB 3 version. I too looked the Thunderbolt 3 version with that add on card. It was my first choice, but then I've been hearing Thunderbolts in general can be a hassle with Windows. The USB might be the good alternative.
Yes after all the hassle I went through, I'd recommend getting the USB version.

@@mikesaintjulesmusic I upgraded my motherboard & CPU. The motherboard has a build in thunderbolt 3 connector so I could straight up plug it in without needing a pci-express card.
Then I got a crackling microphone issue which was a driver problem. I fixed that by using a program called ASIO LINK PRO, which forces to use the ASIO driver which causes no problem. I made another video on how I made that solution work!
@@JWLEGACY ah wow that was more involved for sure. I upgraded my board recently but it has usb c and not the Thunderbolt. I'm sure overall it was worth the upgrade on your end. Enjoy!
@@JWLEGACY Do you know if the USB version works with any motherboard with built in USB3 ports? For example an AMD motherboard like the Gigabyte x570 Elite?
Small correction. You can use the plugins without an interface, but you do need UAD hardware such as a UAD-2 DSP pci-e card or Satellite. I was using a UAD-2 Satellite along with a focusrite interface for years. Now I have the UAD Apollo 8.

I own the apollo twin mk2 (thunderbolt 2) and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get it to work with a new laptop I wanted to use. UAD is pretty daunting with windows PCs & Laptops :D

This is a great review, but change your title. I came here specifically to see how it works on Windows.
I explained how it works on windows! You gotta get a TB3 motherboard or a PCI-express card to make it work.
I have it working on windows right now after all. You got to download the Thunderbolt drivers from your motherboard & the UA software. Then you can use it in your DAW or with the console that comes with the UA Apollo software.
This is incredibly pertinent information and exactly why I came here.
When you go to connect this unit to your pc you will likely learn that you don't have the right kind of connection, that there thunderbolt port. Ah but you do! except its a displayport and doesnt support the protocols of thunderbolt.
Don't fret! UAD sells a pci expansion card with a thunderbolt on it! And not much else... for $500!!!
Go ahead and look up the compatibility of the apollo with non UAD cards. even failure threads are few and far between.

JW LEGACY Hey man, I recently bought a custom built PC with one of the motherboards listed as compatible with thunderbolt and purchased the Arrow. I have installed all necessary drivers and my PC recognizes my arrow when plugged in and my microphone works however every time I open FL studio my microphone stops working and I don’t know what the issue is. I have the correct audio device selected but once I open FL studio it repeatedly says “connecting to arrow” on screen and stops working. any help would be huge!

YES. I got it to work with Windows. Changed motherboards after making the video. Had to use a workaround to get over some small issues but it all works

The seller told me that the Apollo duo usb is an old model and that the Apollo duo X is a better version but it is thunderbolt so I decided to go with duo X and upgrade my pc with thunderbolt to use the duo X. Thanks for this vid..I mainly wanted to buy a twin duo to boost the a.ount of plugins I can use. What is your Computer Spec in this video? Wondering what speed I need to run alot.
The capacity for running plugins with your twin duo is for UA plugins only. UA plugins use DSP instead of CPU power.
Your CPU mostly determines how much (non-UA) plugins you can run.
WIth my twin duo I can run around 6-8 UA plugins at the same time, depending on which ones you use. Some have high DSP usage, some less.
In this video I used my macbook pro laptop from 2017, which is very fast. Dont know the exact stats.
My windows computer, that got the UA apollo running, has a 9th gen I5 and a GTX 1060 GPU.

I got really nice hp laptop, bought the Apollo twin x and mic. But I'm switching back to Mac book pro. The sound quality is way better and all you have to do is Connect the Apollo twin x to the MacBook and it recognizes it right away. Smoking a L right now and all these extra steps is messing with my vibe like "dam I gotta buy extra pieces now just to get it to work" great video tho I enjoyed it 👌🏾

Does the console route to a specific mixer so that you can add 3 party plugins in the recording process?
In the UA console you can only insert UA plugins as far as I can see. But I mostly use FL Studio which allows 3rd party plugins.

Good question, I found out later there was a USB version. But all in all I am very happy with the PC upgrade I did. Its a lot faster now!
Is it necessary to use UAD plugins to work in sequencers, or can you do without them?
I just don't want to limit myself to UAD plugins only, does the map work with third-party VST plugins?
And the second question, what about high-impedance headphones 300 ohms and above?
So from what I understand is that your mother board needs a thunderbolt header available and then you can connect the PCIe thunderbolt 3 adaptor to work with the UAD audio interface, would this be correct??
I am asking because I just purchased a custom PC switching over from a 2012 MacBook Pro, so I don't want to not use my UAD interface
I'm sure that the gigabyte x570 aorus master comes with a thunderbolt header next to the sata headers on the board
either a thunderbolt header pin to connect a TB3 PCI-e card, or just buy a motherboard that has a TB3 port already built in (I have a motherboard now that has that, the Gigabyte Z370 DESIGNARE)
Then you connect the TB3 port from the motherboard OR the PCI-e card, with a TB3 cable, to the UA Apollo. Then it should work just fine!
@@JWLEGACY the CPU I've ordered is a ryzen 3950x (16-core 32 threads) so needs a x570 board, but I think the Aorus Master from gigabyte would be fine as it already has a thunderbolt header.
@@CreativeRamy Beware that the motherboard you described doesnt have a TB3 port. It may have a header pin, but then you still need the TB3 PCI-express card!
@@JWLEGACY yes my brother, there's nothing to be worried about, it has a TB header connection and the TB header is located right next to the sata connectors, so you CAN buy a TB adaptor and make connection which is what you want to do in order to connect the UAD interface, otherwise without the TB header you're stuck with selling it and moving to a USB interface, and.... That's what I'd call as worse case scenario.

Hello everyone, please explain to me, will the Apollo Solo sound card be able to reveal the sound of headphones with an impedance of 300 ohms? I want to buy a Lewitt 540S microphone or similar in class and Beyerdynamic dt 250 250ohm headphones, and I can't decide on a sound card on which all this would work properly. Can anyone name specific models of sound cards that will cope with this?
I have a 2019 Razer Blade 15 with Thunderbolt 3 built in and at first it recognized the Apollo but after I installed the software it no longer recognized the Apollo
One question ... that cable says "20 Gbps" on the box, and UA recommends that it be 40 Gbps ... does it cause you problems? In that brand, the 40 Gbps cable is the 0.5 m cable.
It hasnt caused any problems for me. Just make sure you get a quality TB3 cable. 40 Gbps may be better than 20 Gbps, but for me it is working perfectly fine!

Can you load each inputs separately to the FL STUDIO MIXER using the Apollo Twin (eg. load the mic input 1 (Apollo Twin) to a single INSERT on FLS Mixer and mic input 2 on a different insert and Guitar Input to a different insert) ? without using the UAD software to apply effects and control inputs.
Yes you have a lot of different inputs & outputs coming from the UA. They even have seperate options for mono & stereo.

There is a low-cut on the mic, other than that you have to use the UAD EQ Plugins
Hello, I have a pc with Ryzen 7 2700. Do you know anything about Asrock x570 Phantom Gaming itx or any other motherboard that have thunderbolt 3 port and if it is stable? also how do you have mac os on a pc?
I heard something about the Asrock x570 phantom gaming since I looked into it myself. In the end I didn't want to take the gamble. I wasn't fully sure if it would work on that motherboard.
The primary thing to check here, is the THB_C header pin on the motherboard. If you have one of those, then you can get the Thunderbolt 3 PCI-Express card from Asrock to make it work.
If the motherboard doesn't have that header pin, then it wont work.
There is only 1 mini ATX motherboard from AMD that has a build-in Thunderbolt 3 port and thats it. There will be coming more soon I am sure, but it may take some months before we get there.

JW LEGACY! I've got an issue when it comes to the UAD packs! I have installed the latest pack from their website (in FL Studio) but it gives me this error "one or more uad plug-ins have been disabled. a uad device has been removed from the system. (-16)"...basically they are disabled... PLEASE HELP!!
I think I had a similar issue. Not entirely sure, but try to enable "rescan previously verified plugins" in the plugin manager and let it run.
This message ""one or more uad plug-ins have been disabled." you get when you have run out of DSP power (memory), thus have to many UAD plugins running, its usually shut down the latest added. Check your UAD meter if this is the case.
does the apollo solo has the same quality? how much difference between the X and the apollo twin markii? is it worth it?

Can you use the ASIO driver in multiple programs at the same time? Let's say, FL Studio open and working on RX7 or Premiere Pro at the same time. My audio distorts when I do that. I have a video about it on my channel. I use MME on everything but my DAW. Please let me know...
If you check out my other video on my channel where I talk about fixing the distorting issue, then youll see I use the asio link pro and that program gives you multiple in & outputs which you can route however you want!
So yes I think that asio link pro will fix that issue

Frustrated I upgraded my computer to PC Win 11 with a ASUS Pro-Art 790. The MB supports TB 3 but how do I connect my Apollo Twin X with TB2 ?. I tried the Apple TB 3 to TB 2 but my MB doesn't see my Apollo. ( yes TB is set to ON in the BIOS ) Any help would be appreciated
What do you mean TB2? You need TB3 not 2.

how are you recording your DAW audio with the Apollo Twin?
I use FL Studio but you can use the standard UAD software and other DAW's aswell
Thnx a lot for this video. I just bought a second hand Twin x Duo. My mainboard (MSI X299 Raider) had thunderbolt 3 connectors and with the latest biosupdate I can acutally see the thunderboltsettings in the bios-setup. I ordered a thunderbolt 3 cable. Am I good to go?

Yeah make sure you download the thunderbolt 3 drivers of your motherboards website so everything is up to date!
@@JWLEGACY Thnx! I checked the MSI website. Only could find a biosupdate.. Uadio claims I have to buy a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter in order to make things work. Still waiting for my thunderbolt 3 cable to try without this adapter first. This will save me 90 dollars (!) I keep you posted!

Seboib yeah it does, just make sure everything is set to the same sample rate which it should do automatically

I would suggest if you are going to get an apollo interface to only buy it if you have a mac computer doesnt sound like it works good for computers

My Apollo Twin X has a lot of crackling and popping. I've been trying to fix the problem for almost three weeks. Works okay in Fl Studio 20 but won't work in other DAWS. Even regular use like TH-cam.

My Twin shut off randomly and now it won’t turn back on, it gets hot when I switch the power to on but no lights pop up and there’s a high pitched hiss coming from the machine when you get in close to listen....anyone have an idea?

Yeah it is very easy. Within FL Studio the audio device you select is the UA apollo thunderbolt 3 and then as input on the channel (where the edison plugin is set) you select "MIC/LINE/HIZ 1" in mono and you got your microphone input / guitar input signal showing up. If thats what you meant

Well I assume you have a TB3 port to connect it to? Or do you have the USB version?

@@rajss5164 The only issue I experienced with my Apollo Twin X on Windows is a popping/crackling mic issue that I fixed with a workaround. See my other video on my channel for the fix!

Do you know why this asio driver tool cant recognise a apollo twin x thunderbolt 3, it only shows universal audio fire wire, and universal audio usb or something like that, in any case it shows fire wire and usb but no thunderbolt 3?
But in my sound outs, there is an apollo thunder bolt wmd (or how ever mnd or what ever it is) but there goes no sound out of the apollo to my speakers, I selected the first two outputs of the apollo in the ua console as monitor R & L.
And the input mic in as defaults
I dont know much more than what I did myself what worked.
You need to install a thunderbolt 3 driver software. This is an actual program that you need to install and that will run in the background to make your thunderbolt 3 actually connect to your PC.
I think thats the problem ur experiencing. Go to your motherboard manufacturer and search for their thunderbolt 3 driver, install it and see if that helps.
You can rightclick the thunderbolt 3 icon when its installed on the bottom left, and select approve attached devices to make it recognize the Apollo.

You have to check your motherboards brand, if it is for example Gigabyte, then go look for the Gigabyte Thunderbolt 3 PCI-Express card.
Check the motherboards that are compatible with this card on their official website. There are only a few motherboards that support such card.
If your motherboard doesn't support it, then you have to upgrade your computer.
Same position been doing research and I’m not going that route I have surface book pro 5 and wanted to use these types of interfaces more for aesthetic and to create a clean look on desk but My Presonus Studio 192 Mobile a Beast on PC with the UsB 3.0 Fat channel and Dsp Processing so after careful research if I did decide to go this route I would have to buy a Mac and the best option I came up with after week of research when I do I’ll buy a 2018 or 2020 Mac Mini I7 16gb ram and Apollo Twin And Adam A7X Speakers with my 34 ultrawide LG monitor

Hey, I would probably save up some extra for the quad yes. The amount of plugins I can run at the same time is just on the short side. So next time i'd go with the quad. better safe than sorry!

@@robertjerala3699 Really depends. some plugins cost a lot of DSP, some do less. I think somewhere near the mid/end of this video I am talking about how much plugins I am running before I maxed out

How many plugins can you run at once with the duo?
at 12:20 i am showing how many plugins I am running in that project. It is close to the max DSP usage. Especially the UA 610, Autotune Realtime Advanced & Fairchild 670 use alot of DSP.
It really depends on which plugins you have running honestly.
But, you have normal & legacy editions of some plugins. The legacy editions use way less DSP than the original ones so this way you can use more.
JW LEGACY so you can use the uad plugins inside of FL? I thought it gave you a third party program for the plugins.

DDR4 ofcourse. DDR3 is so old I dont even know the last time I had that
JW LEGACY seem like you don’t know a lot stuff. There are a converter you can use that for your motherboard. Any DDR 4 can take Thunderbolt.
@@samislam5904 Seems like you can't speak proper English AND you seem to not know that you need a THB_C header pin to connect the thunderbolt card. Which not all DDR4 motherboards have.

Unfortunately not. You have to have a specific thunderbolt connection.
Thunderbolt 3 connections have the thunderbolt logo next to the connector. Thats how you can recognize them.
Type it into google and you will see what I mean
