I remember playing this part, saved in the middle of the case because I went to sleep, the next day I was like "time to play Phoenix wright" so I kept looking through all my Phoenix wright games and half and hour later I was like OMG IM STUPID, ITS IN APOLLO JUSTICE

@Just Passingby A fact is that even though he was fighting for Maya's life (of course WE know he was mistaken), he still managed to nearly win. The fact is that the fight was close and Apollo barely out sworded him. Let me tell you, I bet he hated every second of that trial. Every single second. Fighting his own student and friend was probably torture to him. Had we read his internal monologue, there would probably be a lot of screaming and "Forgive me, Apollo"s coming from Phoenix. One reason he wasn't thinking rationally was the fact that Atishon was following him around. He couldn't tell Apollo or Ema anything unlike in 2-4 when he could safely tell Gumshoe without Shelly knowing. Another reason, as you stated, was that Maya was in danger. That head-grasping sprite makes a return for a reason, the very same reason as in 2-4. Had Atishon actually not been guilty, I think that the case would have been a victory for Phoenix.
I Gotta admit, he looks cool here, unlike the reset he got during 5 and 6, yknow sometimes I wish Zak never went to Phoenix, so his career could still be there and be an amazing professional.
With sprites we've seen DOZENS of times, you still manage to see a unique... pain, captured in the Judge's face when he's about to disbar Phoenix. Kind of a relationship-defining moment for the guy.
If Mia was still alive when Wright was having his hearing for forging evidence, she would object and said that the paper actually came from Kristoph, who told Phoenix's now daughter Trucy to give it to him
An alternative possible line of reasoning for the 11 minute mark objection: Phoenix: Valant... if your mentor was already dead... why did you feel the need to shoot the clown? Valant: ...Pardon? Phoenix: It would make perfect sense for ZAK to shoot the clown, he was there first, he needed to find a loophole to get out of shooting his mentor. But you? Why would you feel the need to exploit a loophole to avoid shooting a man who was *already dead*!? Valant: (shock)
Well, think about it. As Valant stated, a deal is still a deal, even with a dead man (8.35). So he had to shoot somebody. But shooting his mentor, who has already been shot, could make him a suspect. So, he still had to use a loophole to fulfill his mentors wish, and still not be a suspect. I think that's a way to argue, why he had to shoot the puppet.

Von Karma uses forged evidence for decades. Judge: Here is a penalty. Phoenix uses one single piece of forged evidence in his entire career. Judge: REMOVE HIS LAWYER BADGE IMMEDIATELY! Seriously, Apollo Justice was a good game, but a lot of things made no sense.

When evidence of Von Karma's forgery was found, it was in his final trial; where he himself was found guilty of murder. He didn't lose his career lmao he got the death penalty.
PR did everything right and would have ways out of it. He didn't even really need to use the falsified sheet. It's only due to the plot that he lost his badge there and then. It doesn't make the tiniest amount of sense.
That cornered theme was quite the nostalgia inducer ^^ And as always, no one bothered asking when the forgery was requested and how Phoenix Wright could have made it when he only got that job a day ago, around the same time someone told Klavier. I found it somewhat interesting that Gavin had several days to prepare forged evidence while Phoenix usually has to stand in court the day after the murder, begging the question what was different in this particular case. Apart from that, the only reason to bring the single day up is that Phoenix COULD NOT have prepared the forged evidence if he only knew one day in advance that he would be the defense attorney in this case. In Dual Destinies, Phoenix mentions speaking with Klavier about the details of one of the cases, and there’s no mention of any animosity still existing between them. That would seem to imply they’ve made amends by that point.
Wait so only because Mr. Misham says "I can say, without a doubt, this is mine." we are supposed to believe that the paper was a fake? wtf? I realized that Trucy's words in the defendant lobby meant that it was most likely a fake, but at least show the proof that the page was marked by Misham.
Yeah I get that. But when I played miles edgeworth investigations I felt my hatred for the prosecution deteriorate as Miles had to really put that effort in to ensure the slippery defendant didn't get away with murder/crime. At the end I really had respect for detectives, Shi Long Lang and Miles for really putting their all to take down criminals, which otherwise they would be free to lay rampart in the world and endanger society as we know it. I guess it just that really speaks for the game, the writing, characters all come together to tell a different side with as much engagement and enjoyement.
So Mr.Misham said it was his. I don't find that to be the "decisive" evidence than Klavier always talks about. Anybody could say that painting is theirs but Gavin over here needs evidence to back it up, (but I guess that's not how court systems work huh?)
In AA verse, Prosecution's case is the absolute proof towards guilty because you have no jury. It's annoying and exactly why this whole "dark age" ends up existing, but it makes sense.

@@adrianac3437 Considering it was Gavin who presented the diary as evidence of Magnifi not being alive to write another page, that's not something he could have pointed out to the court, because it was *his* evidence after all, he can't just present stuff he believes is decisive and dismiss it himself minutes later.
This makes as much (or rather, as little) sense as the other "legal procedures" we see in Ace Attorney games. He didn't explain he hadn't known it was forged, the diary still has a page torn out, the judge blindly believes some shady character. So - no, I didn't.
Artemis Vale As the audience, I know he did no mistake and he did have options out of this. So there is no point in crying "Nooo!" The sole reason he went down is because the script said so in defiance of all logic and the game engine forced us to follow it, so there's really nothing we could do about it other than calling the game a crap and stop playing it.

You forget that the Prosecution Committee was kinda corrupt at the time which is why guys like von Karma got away from the most part. Also the prosecutor's actions while uncalled for, weren't illegal nor did any of their physical abuse result in forged evidence to get their verdict. They just attack to shut up Nick and any other nonsense.
Manfred Von Karma is a prosecutor who presumably works for the state, and he was the best Prosecutor they had by a country mile. He never lost a case and had a perfect conviction rate. Phoenix Wright is an independent defense attorney. I don't understand why people do not consider the huge difference between their positions. Even ignoring what Gyakuten Kenji 2 reveals about the whole situation, the Prosecution committee would want to do everything in their power to mitigate the punishment Manfred received. There's no way they would throw away the best Prosecutor they have if they could help it, whereas someone like Wright would be of no concern.
After which, Phoenix appeared in front of the Bar Association, and was deemed unworthy to defend in court. With one of the board members saying "Mia Fey would be SO disappointed in you." And Mia's spirit would be like "Phoenix, what have you done?"
For someone who's legendary career has just been destroyed, Phoenix certainly puts up a strong face. I imagine he's fucking losing it inside.

I realized that Trucy's words in the defendant lobby meant that it was most likely a fake, but at least show the proof that the page was marked by Misham.
Yeah I get that. But when I played miles edgeworth investigations I felt my hatred for the prosecution deteriorate as Miles had to really put that effort in to ensure the slippery defendant didn't get away with murder/crime. At the end I really had respect for detectives, Shi Long Lang and Miles for really putting their all to take down criminals, which otherwise they would be free to lay rampart in the world and endanger society as we know it. I guess it just that really speaks for the game, the writing, characters all come together to tell a different side with as much engagement and enjoyement.
So Mr.Misham said it was his. I don't find that to be the "decisive" evidence than Klavier always talks about. Anybody could say that painting is theirs but Gavin over here needs evidence to back it up, (but I guess that's not how court systems work huh?)

In AA verse, Prosecution's case is the absolute proof towards guilty because you have no jury. It's annoying and exactly why this whole "dark age" ends up existing, but it makes sense.

This makes as much (or rather, as little) sense as the other "legal procedures" we see in Ace Attorney games. He didn't explain he hadn't known it was forged, the diary still has a page torn out, the judge blindly believes some shady character. So - no, I didn't.
I mean as his audience, who does know it was forged, feels as he presents it, since we feel so much for him.

The whole point of the original trilogy was to show that Phoenix could learn to handle his cases on his own, I figure that's what Godot meant with his big "unlimited penalty" bit. To bring them in to tell him what seems fishy or whatever just reverts his character to a stage that he can't be in by GS4, if Phoenix was going to be a side character, he had to be someone he wasn't before.
Probably why Apollo felt like a clone of Nick at first, in a lot of ways, he was everything Phoenix wasn't anymore.

You forget that the Prosecution Committee was kinda corrupt at the time which is why guys like von Karma got away from the most part. Also the prosecutor's actions while uncalled for, weren't illegal nor did any of their physical abuse result in forged evidence to get their verdict. They just attack to shut up Nick and any other nonsense.
Manfred Von Karma is a prosecutor who presumably works for the state, and he was the best Prosecutor they had by a country mile. He never lost a case and had a perfect conviction rate. Phoenix Wright is an independent defense attorney.
I don't understand why people do not consider the huge difference between their positions. Even ignoring what Gyakuten Kenji 2 reveals about the whole situation, the Prosecution committee would want to do everything in their power to mitigate the punishment Manfred received. There's no way they would throw away the best Prosecutor they have if they could help it, whereas someone like Wright would be of no concern.
