I just wanted to say that your reviews have helped me decide on a car without me having to go to a dealership. While I appreciate that it is a sales job and they work on commission, my patience doesn't go so far as to allow them to mouth-breathe over me the moment I drive onto the lot. Very informative! Thank you :) Also, why does everyone find this car so ugly? I think it's adorable! The Mazda CX-3 has too long a nose and looks kind of... droopy... to me. Sure it has a stronger engine, but if that's what I was looking for, I'd go all out and keep driving my Dad's Dodge Ram 1500. I'm hoping to purchase an HR-V in the next few months!

Great video. I am torn between the HRV and the CX-3. It seems like the CX-3 is more fun to drive, due to dynamics, and more power, plus has a better cabin feel due to materials, but the HRV is more practical, and has more capacity/storage options. Its nearly impossible to pick between the two.. I guess ill have to wait until the dealer makes me an offer...
Good review. Maybe just a few more technical specs. I'm sure glad you did not have annoying music while you were speaking. Alot of so-called reviewers play way to much harsh music. If people want to know what your music genre is, you can always make a music video. Having 7yrs in aircraft repair and a long career owning tractor trailer trucks, I always appreciate facts and detailed descriptions of how the vehicle is responding to driver input!
Sound dampening adds weight, which is outside of a lot of Japanese manufacturers' scope. So they focus on downsizing engine with efficiency while leaving luxuries like quieter cabin as second priority. More luxuries lead to higher MSRP, if you want that.
+zorkor I agree, but some models like the Accord do well with cabin noise, the Fit (and HR-V) poor. I own a 2015 Fit, lots of interior noise from the rev hard 1.5L engine. Honda could have done better on the noise level with some dampening that also would have not added a lot of weight. Otherwise the Fit is amazingly well packaged vehicle. And fun to drive with 6 speed manual.
We owned a 2017 HRV EX AWD. It wasn't a 'bad' car, just way underpowered and spartan. We noticed a transmission fluid smell after about 5 years, but dealer never could find a leak. We traded it in for a CRV Hybrid shortly after that.
Is this vehicle comparable to a Toyota Rav4 or much smaller. Contrary to some I actually love the design. It does seem a little weak on power. Another great review.
Is there any capacity for towing package with this vehicle (small pop up camper) ??. I already own a fit, and would love a vehicle that had similar feel with a bit more room.
Nice review Dave. I like the formal look. The HRV has many of the niceties of the Fit, with available AWD. Road noise has always been an issue in the Fit, and I see it still is in the HRV. I wonder if it's less there though. Honda makes practical vehicles that are very efficient and inexpensive to maintain. I opted for a Fit, as the HRV was in low supply and priced higher. Now I'm contemplating an HRV.
When the doors closed, and the hatch closed. It sounded tinny. Was it just the video or was it like that in real life? What is Hondas aversion towards sound insulation? My Accord and Civics drove me crazy on the highway, my Acura never had road noise.

i used to have a subaru xv, 148hp for a 3200lb cuv is really really slow. i know the hrv is lighter but it only has 141hp?! ok never mind, let's talk about off road, only 6.7 ground clearance for the off road? i doubt if it's really work... never mind
cassmanio that's right! I would rather spend a little more to get the CR-V, which has a much more powerful engine and bigger interior volume. 2-3 mgp penalty...it's money well spent!
+Alexandre Potvin CX-3 is a better buy until it's time for you to trade in or resell it. Mazda is known for their next to nothing resale value. Used Hondas kept their resale values pretty decent compared to any brand.
That seems like an awful place for the fuel door release. Especially for those of us in states that don't have to get out of their car when getting gas.
I want to like this car because of all it has to offer. I just do not like the exterior styling. If its supposed to be a blend between the CR-V and Fit, Honda should have at least made it look more like one of those because those look good!

Engine is just a bit too weak. And those touchscreen-only controls suuuuuuck. This vehicle could have been a grand slam but it's more like a Triple. 5 passenger? Haha, not for adults! You can see Dave is always overlapping the seat next to him in the back seat. Still, pretty decent car for the expected low(ish) price.
How you going to be wearing an dress shirt and tie with slacks but no dress socks. Then Dave you didn't have no dress shoes on either. IJS! If you are going to dress the part go all the way. Another thing the suitcase you use for demonstrating purposes. Its time for another set. The kiddie luggage is not the perfect fit. No harm meant just expressing my views.

Its high ground clearance is actually one good factor that a lot of people like (at least in Asia) about this crossover.

Interior noise is the bane of all Hondas. Wish Honda could do something about this. Otherwise their cars are great.

I test drove the Mazda CX-3 and was disappointed with the sluggishness. I'm guessing with a similar body and HP this is very much the same experience.
