    Why I Plated Quit Shoes

    It’s important to realize the foam and stack play a much larger role. Especially considering shoes are highly dependent on how the geometry/rocker works with your foot strike. The tiredness is usually from lack of access to the same peba based foams that really keep your legs fresh. Hopefully more superblast esque shoes will be released soon to be able to keeps legs fresh without sacrificing mechanics.

      Superblasts (and most of Asics good shoes) have too much of a toe spring, which is not good for big toe mobility and predisposes the foot to plantar fasciitis. I would avoid putting daily miles to any shoe with that much of a rocker.

    Agreed. It's always good to strengthen different legs muscle group during training and daily miles. I do daily miles with 1080 and weekend with Endorphin Pro3

    I don't either and they feel so magical on race day, like a turbo booster of some kind (which I think it's what they are meant to be, anyway). I was wearing a nylon-plated Nike Tempo Next % for long runs last year because I got "addicted" to lowering PRs on training basis, but when the outsole tore apart and I had it returned to Nike, I had a hard time wearing my beloved Pegasuses which I'd been wearing consistently since I was 33 (I was also born in 1983, like this shoe).
    That's when I realized that I should perhaps spare these shoes for everyday training so as to keep my legs strong and resilient, plus the "bonus" feeling of having supershoe on race day and performing typically better than expected.

    I just bought a pair of Rebel v3. Keen to try them out. Never had a carbon plate shoe. At this stage can’t justify the price here in Australia. Got the rebels for a huge discount. Once I see a plated shoe at discount I might pick them up

    Never got into the carbon plated stuff cause they are kinda expensive....I recently mixed in the Kinvara 13 into my rotation that included Triumph and EvoRide and noticed it more challenging on my legs and foot; hopefully I can build some leg/foot strength by running in the less cushioned Kinvara

    72 y.o. here. Had been running in supershoea last 2-3,years because the plates rockers helped me hang in there. But: recovering thru,spoas,syndrome . And recently several plated shoes,just bottomed out: super squish but no rebound: endorphin pro 2 is the worst,New Balance RC elite 2 and adios pro 3 whole NB fuel TC,still delivers. So might have to give up the plated till can get some deed strength back. Never paid more than 12 price. TCs were $50/ pr, end pro 2's were $65/pr.. History: I had a limited shoe thing with Brooks till 20 years ago..

    Same here, training on hilly courses with altra escalante and planning on running marathons with s pro 3. By the way I think carbon plated shoes can be worn on a daily basis if your body and form can support it. If not, we need to build those by running in normal (possibly lower drop) shoes and then having a blast on race day

    I mostly use plated shoes and I destroyed my achilles and now other parts of my body. I was never injured when I ran in 'normal' shoes and I also ran all my PRs in normal shoes so I don't know if running in plated shoes is better for me. I also don't run high mileage. 30 to 50 miles a week.

    I've yet to try a modern super-shoe, but am planning on purchasing one soon for an upcoming half-marathon. I mostly run 5K-10K races and am planning on trying to run more half-marathon distances. I don't think i have the time to marathon train anytime soon. I only plan to use the super-shoe/carbon plated racing shoe for races and only very few of the long runs

  • @therunophil
    @therunophil ปีที่แล้ว

    it really depends on what you want, works for you, balance and transition. Many runners in know in real life are very happy with their Brook or Pegasus and buy the same shoe over and over again. But if you want to maximise the effect of the shoe (which is measurable but of course much smaller than training, nutrition, etc.) then a variety of shoes in the rotation will reduce injury risk (because you vary the stress), allow you to run more (shorter recovery with super foams) and faster (more efficiently). Any abrupt transition is injury prone, be it the shoe or the training type. For me I found that max stack height helps me run pain free with my old injuries, so about half of my rotation has some kind of plate, and they tend to get more miles, I retired the SC trainer after 500k of long runs in a marathon prep.

      this is a great point. i only attempted to do this and makes things a bit harder for myself because i've been very healthy over the last year. if i were nursing lingering injuries, as i was at this point last year, i'd definitely be using higher stack and carbon plated shoes

    I never ran in the carbon plated shoe because of 2 reasons. 1) they are expensive and 2) I am not an elite and participate in winning races, I ran to improve to be a better runner myself and no to compete with others. All I need are shoes that can protect my legs. 😊

    i had a pebax plated shoe that i had retire halfway as the plate was messing with my stride too much that it affected my knees somehow... as the plated shoe was too stiff that my knee was compensating :(

    My take: two runs per week on light trails to build strength . Two or three easy runs on roads using non-plated shoes. Then one workout and a long run on plated non-carbon fiber"super trainers" (like Endosrphin Speed 3 or Boston 12) to recover quick from the added load. The best of both worlds. Worked great these past twelve months.

    I have been trying to use plated shoes sparingly as well, relying a lot on my OnCloud Surfers and Mach 5's. Thank you for your running shoe bargain videos as well, because I just landed a pair of Brooks Hyperion Max's from Dick's for $99.

    I'm with you on doing a lot with non-plated shoes. I'm doing all of my longer runs (6-8 miles) in the Nimbus. Now, if I put on the Deviate Nitro, they feel really light and nimble.
    Do you have any thoughts about the Superblast, as a non-plated high-performance shoe?

    • @ThreadsandTreadsGreenwich

      Greatest shoe ever. SUPERBLAST

    • @supwell
      @supwell  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the superblast is great. for me right now though, i put it in the same category as the plated shoes - that huge stack of foam makes it a lot easier to run and takes the burden off the legs, similar to a plate. i'm even trying to run in my triumph and nimbus less than i was before (down to about once a week on super recovery days)

    • @kuriosites
      @kuriosites ปีที่แล้ว

      @@supwell I have wondered if the Superblast would ruin me for traditional high cushioned shoes. Reviews have been so good though. I'm curious to hear about how this strategy works for you.

    If you do any cycling I would suggest using square wheels, the strength gains are enormous. Be careful though, they don't corner well.....🤣

    It’s weird i have an easier time with the topo cyclone 2 vs the nitro 2 deviate.
    Maybe the deviate is too narrow because the sides of my feet hate me whenever I run in those.
    I guess being flexible and having an entire pebax midsole creates wonders

    Yeah, your speeds will go down but I guess the speed at your work out days don’t really matter what matters is race day Olympian and Steven Scully here he makes is his runs as hard as possible and that is easy and it’s fast as possible he actually runs in the sandlot and other things to just make it more of a work out he does, and then when he does put on every once in a while, and for race is fasces flies, makes a lot of sense of yellow rice I ever one was I was doing all my training or 80% of it in barefoot shoes and I got the race line put on my fast carbon shoes and I actually was lion

    You guys in western countries are just spoiled with these shoes. Where I live the most budget plated shoe is 1/3 of our monthly salary. (And also the shoe prices are 20% higher here.)
    I admit I am nowhere near you in fitness, but I comfortably run 40 mile weeks with what you will consider a complete trash and a suicide for the legs. One of my shoes that I do around 1/4th of my weekly mileage is a Feiyue knock-off. You guys don't think this shoe is good for walking let alone running miles in it. 🤣 My other shoes are cheap shoes from Decathlon (a french sporting goods retailer).
    I can't justify buying plated or superfoam shoes so I run as much as I can on grass and trails. Grass is so easy on the legs you can run with the very cheap shoes and you'll be alright.
