I am a Spyderco fan through and through but I recently bought a Kizlyar Supreme 'Ute' Knife. Being quite cheap by all standards I have tried to thrash this thing and it keeps on giving. Its quite heavy but very sturdy and have fallen in love with it. Nice review by the way !
Top vid. I live in the UK myself and just bought a Byrd Cara Cara 2 (FRN handle) for just under £26 including P+P. I appreciate that the steel isn't as good as some but then again, I won't be using it as often as most people so it's ideal. I am, as you say, 'on a budget' so I'm delighted with my purchase.
I like your review. Straight forward and honest. I carry an Emerson Knives La Griffe neck knife and a Cold Steel Hold Out III. I trade out my Hold Out for my Ka Bar TDI once in a while. I have moved away from my heavier knives for edc reasons. My Hold out is only 2.5 oz.
I'm in the market for a 3" and under blade EDC and the choices are overwhelming thanks for helping me to sort it out. I bought the Cyro before watching this looks like I'm gonna check out the others on the list as well thanks again...
I liked your video. Even if the Delica is not really a favorite of mine I can understand the reasoning behind it. It is a good edc choice. Not too expensive and it does get the job done.
Not a bad choice. I'd like to add a Delica to my collection. I have the endures but it's a little big to whip out at times. That why I bought a blue mini griptilian. I love it! It's a little pricey but if you want a great edc knife on a budget for $35 you can get a Cold Steel Finn Wolf. I call it the poor mans griptilian. It's an awesome knife.
Nice Mid-sized EDC collection Sir! I have that same Delica-4 laser engraved with my Fire Deptartments nick name & my firefighter numbers as my right pocket EDC. I usually have a larger knife in my left pocket (PM2 or Griptilian). I think it's sad that you can't really carry your lock blades, but rules are rules I suppose. Thanks for the great video & all the 40K stuff too.
I've carried a Delica every day for many years and it has the scars to prove it. The Delica 4 is a fantastic EDC knife in every way. The design is fantastic and the materials are more than adequate, especially for EDC tasks. I don't get too hung up on the steel hype that seems to be all the rage these days. The majority of people will never, or at least should never, use their knife, especially an EDC in ways that require all these so-called super steels. I want good steel that I can sharpen myself. I think if more folks spent the $150-200 on a good sharpening system like a KME, Edge Pro, etc., they'd discover they don't really need these super hard steels and they could keep all their knives sharp, from kitchen to pocket. I have 30+yr old Made in the USA Schrades with high carbon steel that are fantastic and have served just as much duty as any new "super steel" knife of today ever will. The same for some very old Buck's with 440HC. I'm not knocking high-end steels if that a person's thing I'm just saying we should approach them with a bit of functional honesty.
+Fighting Usia Agree with what you're saying. I too hope people grow up without a tarnished view of some steels being super. VG-10 is and incredible steel. It's easy to sharpen to a razor sharp edge, holds its edge well and is relatively inexpensive (compared to S30V). Collectors will always scramble for ZDP-189, M390 and XHP. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
One of your issues with the Kershaw Leek can be solved with a visit to ebay. There are some very nice aftermarket deep carry clips, and the Leek is one of a handful of knives that they are made for.

I am very satisfied with my Spyderco Tenacious. The price was in the 40-50$ CAD range on Amazon. It has a good steel quality, great ergonomics and is not too heavy. Still, I agree with your position on the Delica. It is more on the EDC side than the Tenacious. The later being more a "EDC +" style knife, but anyway... Peace! :)
Pretty darn interesting vid. Thanks. Reminded me to go look again for some vids updating the Chinese knife situation (Sanrenmu etc). For less than US$10, I have obtained some great ones.
David K It certainly lives up to the hype. They need to build on that and produce higher end versions. An H1 serrated version would be a welcome addition.
Good video. I like those UK knives. Locks for EDC are overrated IMO. One reason I guess people want such a strong lock is for self defense, but for basic tasks, friction or slip-it knives work great. Para 2 is my favorite right now, but I want to get my hands on a Manix 2 with FFG. I carry a Persistence a lot because of the size, but I have to sharpen it a lot.
No one knows everything but before I open my yap publicly I do enough research to not embarrass myself. 440C may be 'high end' in the UK, but doesn't cut it elsewhere any more. 440HC should be a bare minimum to be the lowest of the mid-range. Next up, the Cryo is available with a G10 side cutting the weight considerably until it is a quite decent knife.
Since I last responded on here (Byrd Cara Cara 2) I've purchased quite a few knives. The Kershaw Leek was particularly disappointing though. The (assisted) spring failed after just five weeks of casual fondling in front of my computer while watching knife reviews. I emailed Kershaw and, in fairness, they sent me a new spring FOC. But my faith in the product has waned considerably despite Kershaws good intentions...
Thanks S. My eye sight is clearly going! Have emailed them. Apparently the stock shortage problem is coming from the Kershaw end and out of their control but should be rectified in a couple of weeks.
I might of got lucky, and maybe I'm from the old school, but my pocket knife, I like a 3 blade pocket knife, but not one of them tiny king, and not so big either, right now, my EDC pocket knife is a vintage Camillus Canoe 3blade, a Silver Sword, I don't know the type of stainless it's made from, but it holds a great edge, and I can get it really sharp easy, and I mean sharp, it's very well made, and I got a leather pouch for it for my belt, I do have other folders, some are larger, some medium size, like my S.O.G. Top Cat, I think that's what it's called, can remember it now until I look at it, but it's a nice one, another couple of S.O.G.'s in VG-10, a couple of vintage Al-Mar's, some Case, Ka-Bar's, Buck's, Western, most are vintage, I prefer fix blades, like the Anneversary Mean Street LE, or Top's Mini Scandi, or my Browning Independence, but my Silver Sword is a good one for me, even though I mentioned a few, I do have others, but my Silver Sword is one I'm not afraid to use, and it's sharp. I saw one list online for about $180.00, I don't think I payed nearly that when it was new, but it's vintage now, and I wish they still made them like they use to, at my price.
+paulie 4x You aren't old school, you actually know what a knife is for. These unbelievably expensive, single-bladed pocketknives everyone wants are as useless as teats on a boar out in the real world. A thirty-five dollar Stockman with three blades can do fifty things well that even a thousand dollar single bladed knife can't even attempt. And don't get me started on steel. Maybe the biggest nonsense in the world is which knife has the "best" steel, and how good this steel is, versus how bad that steel is. Most of the so-called "super" steels are about marketing, not quality. All have weaknesses, and some of the weaknesses are severe. If you want to upgrade, go to 1095HC, or to 440c. You'll have a steel that's not only as good as the super steels, but that's better in some important ways. And stick to the Stockman. Unless you plan on getting into a knife fight, a single bladed pocketknife is a silly choice. Just buy a good box cutter, and save yourself a fortune.
Thanx, as I'm answering your reply I'm waiting on my Bokor Tree Brand 440C 2 Blade Folding Hunting Knife, I'm glad you think 440C is good. You make alot of sence with your reply, again Thank You, , , TiT's on a Boar that's funny, or Brings a knife to a gun fight is funny too heh heh heh
I like my Spyderco Tenacious I got for $35, but that blade is a little of 3 inches (so not to be included here). My next favorite, which does meet the criteria of this video, is the Spyderco Cat ($25).
An interesting vid. Knives are so personal though, I don't think the question can be answered. For example, a friend of mine used to EDC an SAK even when we could carry locking blades. Another friend has a Grasshopper and loves it. My favourite ? I can't carry it anymore. A small (32 blade) Bowie from Sheffield Stell. I carried that from 74 until they said I couldn't lol. Now ? Well, I don't really have a favourite. I like the Spyderco Kiwi though. And I usually have an SAK with me as well.
I completely understand, thank you. But then I (and I mean that is just my humble opinion) would say a Spyderco Sage 2 is the best EDC knife and the Victorinox and Opinel are the best *cheap* EDC knives.
For me, the ultimate test of an EDC folder is the "task cycle". I want a knife that allows swift, one-handed deployment and stowage. Out of my pocket ... open a package ... back in my pocket, before anyone even knows what happened. ... flip-zip-click-slip. ... What was that ? So, yeah ... A Griptilian or a Manix.
Yes you would not be legally allowed to carry 6 knives in the above video for UK EDC as they have locking mechanisms. I think I explain this in the video and I have a separate video dedicated to UK EDC knife carry.
Surely with an EDC what you want is non-locking for carrying in the UK.... It means far less hassle knowing you are legally allowed to carry it with no specific reason?! I would go with UKPK, boker trance 42 or boker plus xs, because they are cheap but perform all basic cutting tasks well. Also no worries if its in your pocket and an overkeen police officer stops you - nothing to worry about! IMO
As a Brit, I don't understand why they banned switch blades, yet flippers are legal. From what I've seen, there isn't really a difference on the speed of opening. Not that I'm complaining...
+TheSvenVids I understand what you're saying. I think they look at the knife's intended purpose. Switch blades are quite specific at being a weapon. Flippers are not. I know, don't get me started on well any knife has the potential to be a weapon etc. I don't make the rules etc.
Awesome vid, thank you. But I presume that 9 out of 10 knife nuts would state that you cannot make a video around the question 'what is the all-round best Every Day Carry [production] knife for life?' without a Para2 ;) Kind regards from Amsterdam
+Dmitri Nesteruk I personally buy my knives from a UK based country because they have exceptional service and I like to support the local workforce. Having said that there are a small selection of companies that ship knives from the states, although Customs normally intercept them and charge you tax and duty. I've also been to the states a couple of times and bought a nice number of knives and brought them back here.
+Sup3rSaiy3n interesting. just did a random search for the Rainbow Leek, $60.75 on Amazon.com and £114.99 at a random UK online store. that warm and fuzzy feeling of buying local, eh?
+Dmitri Nesteruk Are you trying to make some kind of point? If I buy a Leek from Amazon.com and go to the checkout they class it as restricted (any locking knife) so Amazon will not ship it to UK. Not because it is a locking knife but because of Amazon.com's policy. With a knife collection as large as mine I can't believe you actually thought I hadn't tried buying from one of the worlds largest online stores before. Oh wait it's the internetz, yes I can. Your ignorance, lack of knowledge and un-willingness to support your country's businesses is nothing to be smug about.
+Sup3rSaiy3n well, that escalated quickly :) but, seriously, some Amazon sellers do not ship international and this happens to be one of them. what it says, literally, is "This item does not ship to London, United Kingdom. Please check other sellers who may ship internationally". that's all. no drama. as to my "ignorance, lack of knowledge and un-willingness to support your country's businesses" I don't live in the UK, so there's no business to support except the mail service, which helps me get shipments from the USA. there is no customs duty *or* VAT. if we are talking about the 'reseller' business, well, see my post above on a like-for-like price comparison. those are real numbers taken from the real 'internetz'.
can someone explain what the rationale is for that law? Is it because a locking knife is more weapon-y? I guess I'm not getting it. For safety (my own) I wouldn't own a folding knife that didn't have a lock (and I have quite a few).
No not because it is more weapon-y. The law changed due to a number of court cases in the 70s and 80s where judges essentially determined there was no difference between locking knives and fixed blades. - fixed blades were illegal to carry at the time (also remember this was before the improvements in knife locking technologies). Therefore it took a few court cases where people were killed with locking knives for them to be classed as fixed blades and thus become illegal to carry in public (without a good reason). Anyway hope that helps and yes locking knives are safer to use than non-locking ones - fixed blades even more so.
Is it legal to EDC with an axis lock knife (like the mini-reptilian you show) in the UK ? The Delica is a back lock, as well. Your knife law is truly ambigous, isnt it ?
I am not "spamming". It appears you've got a problem with honesty. If you publish a video with ambiguous information, you are creating havoc. Your videos are confusing people (like me) who come to the UK or want to send a folding knife to a friend. You should be more helpful and less childish. And, please, ban me from your channel so I do not see it coming up again. In Greenland, we *do not* treat people who ask questions like you do.
So in Greenland it is perfectly acceptable to ask someone a question along with a series of unhelpful accusations, ignore their reply and ask another question? It is not and why have you made it nationalistic 'in Greenland' crap. No one cares where you're from, I certainly don't. I treat everyone equally with respect. If I ask a question on a video I will wait for the answer, then reply or at least say thanks. It seems you do not follow the same line of respect I do. Which means you're either a child or you just don't have a clue - which is probably the case given you thinking one of my UK legal knives had a liner lock. I won't ban you but I'd prefer if you stopped harassing me. You posted a comment on another one of my videos stating untruths and questions. I replied to your first question but you did not acknowledge the reply. Instead you've posted another question on a different video. I will state yet again, go and read the reply and I will gladly enter into a discussion with you. If you do not then go and be rude somewhere else. If you cannot understand the UK knife law go and read it, instead of throwing accusations around on correct videos. I should be more helpful? Seriously? I answered your question without acknowledgement. And I'm about to do it again - because I'm a good, honest, helpful person: The above video is a best EDC knife video - dependent on your own country's laws. My video is mainly aimed at US citizens but they too also have restrictions on these. At no point do I declare, suggest or advise that those in the video are for UK. YOU have come to that conclusion, which is wrong btw. As well as the mini-reptillian and the delica, the cryo, leek, sage 1 and the super blue all have locks and you would not be able to carry them in a public place in the UK 'without a good reason'. I will also answer your send a folding knife to a friend question. You can send any knife to a friend in UK but he will only be allowed to carry it in a public place without a good reason if it does not have a lock, is folding and has a blade length of less than 3 inches. If you wish to send a locking knife, you can do, but he will only be allowed to carry it if he has a good reason to be carrying it. The Government website explains it better than I: www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives I would suggest you watch this video: th-cam.com/video/Wq2nK2ORYJk/w-d-xo.html and for some examples watch this video: th-cam.com/video/-i-a3_CbKVk/w-d-xo.html So now I have answered three of your questions - pretty sure I wont get a thanks or an acknowledgement from you so I wish you good luck on building up your respect to other helpful strangers.
I've answered your question below. It can be legal if you enter a public place (which could be your car btw) and have a good reason for why you are carrying it. If an officer finds you with a locking knife or fixed blade it is up to him/her wether your reason is 'a good reason'. Six of the knives in the video have locks. Therefore I would always suggest if you intend to carry a knife in the UK to carry one that is a folding, non-locking knife with a blade length less than 3 inches. I suggest you watch a UK legal knife options video like this one: th-cam.com/video/-i-a3_CbKVk/w-d-xo.html
Is it just me or did the "framelock" on that black boker not do a goddamn thing? It was under the blade and it looked like he could just snap it closed. I could be wrong, but it looks like a piece of shit to me.
It was not a frame lock, it only looked like it was because it shares the same design with the U.S. version of the knife which does have a frame lock. In the U.K. pocket folding knives have to be slip-its or slip joints, which means they don't lock.
Wil Yi Donoy You are completely correct sir! I forgot that this fella lives in the Uk and that some of his knives were meant for over there.. But he has so many knives that are legal elsewhere(like america) that I forgot he still gets knives set for UK distribution
Great vid! I prefer less than 3 inch blade lengths but my para2 is still my preferred EDC knife.
Yeah it's an excellent knife and carries very well for it's size. I usually prefer close to a 3" blade for EDC, but my PM2 just feels right.

I agree with your choice given the scope. I carry a Para II and an Endura 4. The Para II is the best folder I have ever owned.

I own both the mini-griptillian and the delica 4. Once I got my delica 4 for $54, I regretted, immediately, purchasing my mini for $84...
+Gilberto Esquivel yeah mini grips street price is like 89 dollars pretty outrageous.
I say the Spydercos are the best edc knives.
I like my Spyderco Tenacious I got for $35, but that blade is a little of 3 inches (so not to be included here). My next favorite, which does meet the criteria of this video, is the Spyderco Cat ($25).
Great video! Can you tell me where you got the Kershaw Cryo and what it cost? I can't see it on Heinnie Haynes.
How did you not include any SAKs? Inexpensive sheeple friendly and extra function! Great vid brother really enjoyed it.

what color is the delica? it looks like hot orange or something...
What was that Spyderco model at 8:39? I couldn't understand him.
Arthur Leyenberger Spyderco squeak
the boker plus is for flicking the knife u press lever while flicking it with ur wrist
7:37 You should never baton with a folder locked anyway, the blade should remain unlocked when batoning.
Merry Christmas dude....:)
would the axis lock on the griptillian not make the knife illegal for UK EDC?
Yes you would not be legally allowed to carry 6 knives in the above video for UK EDC as they have locking mechanisms. I think I explain this in the video and I have a separate video dedicated to UK EDC knife carry.

Can u do a video on really cheap edc knives because i need one but it cant be expansive and can u put a link of it
Sure thing
Are these all UK legal knifes to carry ?
You mention UK prices... I often wonder how people in the UK buy knives from the states without paying a rip-off price. Channel islands?

I love my UKPK
+Sup3rSaiy3n what website would you recommend buying from in the UK?
+That guy JG LOL I mainly use Heinnie Haynes. They can't be beat for service imo: www.heinnie.com
the spyderco delica is 5 star get it
Wait, you can't have locking blades in the UK? That seems dangerous
Why do we even need knives at all when our closest ally has 10 Aircraft carriers!
Haha, good point!
***** because things need to be cut....? wait, why do you think people carry knives?
8BitZ0mbie true, things need to be cut
Very common sense video. I think Delica/Endura will cover 99% of anyone's realistic cutting chores. Anything else is just for show :)
What would the consequences be for carrying one of these knives and be searched by the police? What would you say to them?
No CRKT?
Hi, are frame lock knives UK legal?
+Wasim Ahmed Locking knives are not legal to carry in UK.
+Wasim Ahmed in the uk you can't carry a knife over 3 inches in public and you can't carry a locking blade knife no matter what lock it is in public
can someone explain what the rationale is for that law?
Your knife law is truly ambigous, isnt it ?
clusterguard R u the guy that made the comment earlier on another video. Stop spamming a read that. Then I will give you a response.
And I'm about to do it again - because I'm a good, honest, helpful person:
The above video is a best EDC knife video - dependent on your own country's laws.
The Government website explains it better than I: www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives
I would suggest you watch this video: th-cam.com/video/Wq2nK2ORYJk/w-d-xo.html and for some examples watch this video: th-cam.com/video/-i-a3_CbKVk/w-d-xo.html
So now I have answered three of your questions - pretty sure I wont get a thanks or an acknowledgement from you so I wish you good luck on building up your respect to other helpful strangers.
I suggest you watch a UK legal knife options video like this one: th-cam.com/video/-i-a3_CbKVk/w-d-xo.html
can you suggest a UK legal edc aka no lock
A concealed carry license and a glock
Spineshot25 Sure if you like confined spaces, men and communal showers.
Yeah the Spyderco UKPK is great. Also the Spy-DK is what I'm carrying atmo although you can't effectively open it one-handed if that's a requirement.
ok thanks ill have a look at them ones opening with 1 hand isnt to important
Thx man
oops ! That should have been a 3" blade Bowie. Even I wouldn't carry a 32" blade... well, not often, anyway, lol.
helpful video
nice vid sir...
Bench made bug out. Best edc.
No Benchmade??

440c = "high end"
154cm, literally an evolution from 440c = medium to high-ish
the fuck dude have you ever done some research on steels?
Do you get pocket checked by police?
Jay England Been collecting knives for 3 years, never been stopped. Stop and search areas are largely situated in high crime places.
Knife nut...........
You know nothing about blade steels
