    Glad I have a 1979 Bolens HT23 and a 1962 Case 430. There are so few electronic on it I could draw the whole electric schematic on a Post-It! And they had very common parts. On my Case a Marvel Schebler carburetor. That's is one other very known brand that was used on many tractor brands. Thanks for sharing and glad to hear a young smart man like you believe in real life beyond computers.

    Big fan of the Bendix carburetor but don't like the adjustable main jet. Seemed like it would run clean one day and to rich the next. I found that for my shovelheads and sportster a 100 or 105 main works great. Once set I haven't touched them for years. The only problem is I replace the accelerator pump boot every few years. Good video.

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah your not wrong, the adjustable is nice but if you have it dialed on with a permenant jet your good to role too! I like the bendix for getting them running and adjusting if you change air cleaner etc but you are correct indeed

    Hello Jay! Yep, that's as simple as it gets there! Don't you wish things were that simple now? I tell my wife that I got into tranny work and retired from it at the right times. Made some great money for sure. But, here come all those electronics. I don't know how many scan tools I bought those last years I was in it. I will not mention the manufacturer I bought the last one from, but I paid over 8000.00 along with some add on's. I was promised free updates for the next 5 years if I bought it. HAHA, never got the 1st one. They would do it for $1500. I made out pretty good tho, I could figure stuff out by knowing how to test different components out to whether they worked or not. The building of the transmission wasn't a problem but you better make sure it wasn't a simple sensor before you built a customer's tranny. Don't you would have your a** in a situation real quick! Feel sorry for those guys out there now because it's a lot worse now than it was 6 or 7 years ago when I got out. Sorry for ranting on Jay, Have a great day! HAHA, I really was just getting started!

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bruce! All my mechanical knowledge was learned on all older stuff like this ironhead I have. My old neighbor (mentor) who taught me the knowledge I have today was all about vintage cars, bikes, guns, boats, etc you name it he was into it! I am sure it is a lot worse than it is now for sure! I feel bad for the ma and pa shops that are "forced" to buy new scanners and such to keep up with new cars. Its almost like they make the tools so pricey to maintain all the customers at the factory dealer. I dont see small ma and pa shops dropping 8-20k on scanners for cars they may only get a handfull of a year who knows. I am only 27 years old and I see how quickly things have changed and I sure you can attest to the change since you been wrenching longer than I have. I feel there is a swing for people to maybe buy something a little older/more simple to save time. I know Ill always love the simplicity of older stuff for sure! Thanks for watching! I cant wait to fit this on the Ironhead! Wont be for a bit but eventually! Thanks again for stopping by!

    What is the rectangular protruding behind the inlet (between body and plunger)
    I think it has to do with the two or three idle holes distal from the idle needle at top of venturi; maybe a horshoe path between them, maybe it relieves pressure somehow. I hope it's not a check valve (springs should not be permanent)
    Maybe it's just a mount, but it's driving me fjing crazy

      Are you talking that thing at the bottom left part of the barrel at 4:09? It looks like a nut sitting there? If so, that's the accelerator pump outlet nozzle. When you twist the throttle it should shoot gas down the middle of the barrel... if not you can turn it one way or the other with a small wrench.

      Adjustable Main Jet: 3.5 turns counterclockwise out from snug.
      Pro Tip: align the holes in the base of the Main Jet Tube with the notched cutouts in the Carb Body through which the tube rides.
