I just finished the first test ride on my '97 WideGlide, and I'm a believer. My old factory carb was plum wore out at 41,000 miles, but even 6yrs ago, it didn't start, idle, or run like the 32 buck carb I got off of eBay. It feels like I gained 15 extra hp. Wonders never cease.
Every review I've seen of these was highly positive, and some say they're better than the stock Harley carb. I just ordered one off of eBay for my '97 WideGlide for 47 bucks with tax. I've been wrenching, building, and riding for 51yrs, and have always gone with whatever works, and what is most cost effective. When I have to work on a carb, I always replace every screw with Allen heads to avoid any future problems.
Not sure if they're 'better' than Harley, but trying to find a decent used HD carb that's cheaper than one of these is just getting impossible now a days.
I just had a sportster that came in with one of these carbs on it. I just cringed when I saw it. I have a lot of problems with the ebay carbs on a Japanese bikes but this harley ran remarkably well with it on it
I've installed about a dozen of them so far without any issues, plus people comment almost daily that they've had a great experience as well. They're a nice little surprise.
Bought one based on this video for a 91 FLH Police bike. In my case I got junk. Accel pump barely worked no matter what I did. Ended up making a good one from it and the original I replaced.
Perfect info for those who are not rely experienced with Chinese carbs. I do single carb conversions for Japanese bikes and these carbs are very good. You kick the ass. Thank you.

Well technically @rc5693 is correct. Being a vintage auto mechanic, Ive always seen that a choke has a butterfly. When I started fiddling with this Harley carb, it has no butterfly and I then concluded it must be an enricher. An accelerator pump is an enricher, would you call that a choke? There is a difference like it or not. What ever its called, it sure helps to start the bike when its cold, thank god for that, especially with a kick start. By the way, this video was great, a tremendous help, thanks.
I have one of those on a new to me Dyna and it works great so far. One note though, those bowl screws are very likely NOT Phillips but JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) and won't strip if you use the correct JIS driver....that would be the case on the stock Kehin carb for sure. I didn't know the difference myself for years and stripped plenty of JIS screws. In a pinch you can grind the tip of a Phillips driver shorter and it will fit JIS screws better and be far less likely to strip them.
Just rebuilt my carb, it had 45/185 jets… Finally unplugged the slow speed jet and finished rebuilding.. Adjusted the idle and went from 2 1/2 out to maybe 2 out with my EZ Adjust and she seems happy happy. Test ride it was very peppy. Love my Champion Plugs!!! LOL (They just wear out faster, but I have a set of NGK for then)
Good instructional video. One suggestion....you might want to also mention about checking the float level. While you have the bowl off changing the jets, it's always a good idea to check the float to make sure it's within spec. Again, just a suggestion.
Both of my $40 clone S&S super E carbs work just fine. They are so exact, i believe that these are made from the same parts that wind up on the assembly line in Wisconsin.

Thanks for the video man, I'm rebuilding my CV carb on my 91 xlh 1200. The ONLY difference i've noticed with my carb vs the 92 and up are the floats and emulsion tubes on the older style are a bit different. The float replacement doesnt fit my carb which was a bummer, i'll have to find where to get the replacement for that.
I pulled my old Buell Blast outta the cob webs to teach my kids how to ride, but the carb was missing pieces (probably vibrated off over the years, they don't call em thumpers for nothin). I didn't wanna spend the money on another H-D carb thats "worth" more than the bike. Picked up one of these with a choke cable and deleted the auto choke system and outta the box it was almost prefect. I think I'm gonna go up to the 180 or 185 on the final jet, it kinda coughs and cuts out at full throttle. But thanks to your video I saved a ton of money. I love my Buells, but always hated the H-D service bill. Once I started learning how to work on them myself, there was no going back to the dealerships, which worked out cause H-D axed the brand. Most of the Buells run these CV40 carbs with an "auto choke."
I also run 180/48/2,5 turns on my 1340 shovelhead FXR. The guy I bought it from had installed a dyno-jet kit with a plastic vacuum slide a weird needle and the mixture screw bottomed out. I was wondering how this carburetor would work on a 1978 74 cu-in flh. I already have a CV carburetor (not S$S) I can't tell you what it is but its been on my ride for about 15 or 16 years now and it's time to get a new one.
I have no doubt is is a good carb. They are made in the same factory. I just don't like slide carbs like the CV or Mikuni but that is a personal choice. good video by the way.
Put one on my 02 bagger re-jetted it and had to use stock throttle cable guide. Started right up and adjusted idle and with mixture out 3 turns it runs better than ever! 100% 👍

Are you talking idle speed or idle air mix? I back out the idle air mix 2 turns to start and fine adjust from there. You're supposed to start at 1.5 turns but I've found 2 to be more accurate. Idle speed screw I leave alone the adjust once its running
I’m talking idle speed. I’m doing a magneti Marelli swap. It’s a 2000 Electra glide with an 88TC. I got the bike cheap in a non running state. Put a thunder heart ignition on it. I haven’t had much time for it the past week but im able to get it running with the choke on. Let it warm up and it falls on its face when I push the choke in. I put a 190 main and 48 slow in it. Cheap Amazon adjustable idle speed screw backed off around 2.5 turns
Sounds like it wants more fuel. Are you sure it doesn't have a cam or anything? Possible air leak? I installed one of these the other day on a bone stock 88tc I used a 195/48, set the idle at operating temp and it's running good.
It does sound like it may have a cam. I got an intake off eBay and just installed it with the seals that were on it to try and move the process along. I just received the new seals, air cleaner, pingel adapter and petcock over the weekend. Planning on putting it all together the right way this weekend. Very well could be an intake leak since the seals are old and I couldn’t line it up with an air filter. Makes me feel better that the jets seem to be close to what you described. Thanks for your time. I’ll shoot back with an update. I enjoyed your video along with the slight shit talk at the beginning.
Are the parts on these interchangeable with the original Keihn carb? I was thinking of putting the bowl with the drain on my stock carb to make it easier to winterize the bike.
I have an amazon carb on an 89 883 i jusg bought, throttle cable is sloppy loose at max extension, and the new cable i bought for an 89 sporty seems to not have enough free length, any tipa on whag cable yall are running?
What jets you recommend for 90 Electra glide with an evo? It’s stock installed the cv and got it running but will cough it came installed with a 45/170
What do you think about adapting a pair of these on a 2.3 liter 4 cyl? Its got a stromberg cv carb and i cane across this looking for some tuning tips. Also curious if the lifting the piston method for air fuel tuning is applicable.
@@STLNik well it's not the effort really. If they work well and are easy to tune then it beats a lot of options money wise by a HUGE margin. I'm a fabricator so the intake isn't that big of a deal. And I'm thinking maybe it's a good option for triples on an inline six that has a pair of awful zenith 2 barrels.
So I had to revisit the comment section. Bike runs good with the China carb but I started to hear a strange rattle on Decel and sometimes when accelerating. Turns out the slide is made suuuuper loose. Much Looser than the slide in my 24 year old carb. Not going to take the risk of this breaking and getting sucked in. 😢
"Harley" Keihin CV carbs were not made in the USA in the first place. I disregard EVERY opinion by non-mechanics and avoid them because I dislike non-technical humans. Carbs were perfected over 100 years ago and the earliest still used today is the SU (Skinners Union) CV which is a piston type and still in production. HD plugs are branded Champions. I've ridden and wrenched HDs since before the posers took over the market and while selling Bubba with more money than sense paid off for HD I have nothing to do with those people. Real bikers wrench. Real car people wrench. Real gearheads wrench. Carbs BTW are so simple they're basically a toilet float with some plumbing. My long-deceased grandmother and mother drove a T Model Ford on their rural mail route in the 1930s and managed just fine with manual throttle and ignition levers. Anyone who CHOOSES to learn can do so. I've never been stranded by a carb. Not so with EFI pumps...
Is it bad idea to replace CV carburetor to a slide one in a 450cc dual cylinder chopper? what are the cons? hard to find a cv one for reasonable price..
Does anybody recommend these Amazon CV cards for an 93-96 evo(electra glide classic/road king?)and...wud i jet it the same?the motor is a 1340...thanx alot fellas!
Make sure you take your elevation into play when jetting too. Can't stress this enough, make sure your timing is perfect before playing with the carb. I have a 2005 883 with 45/180 jets with the fuel air needle out 2.5 turns. Sea level with Vance and Hines longshots and aftermarket air filter.
I checked Batteries plus, a local motorcycle supply shop and HD dealer- the one from batteries plus was $20 cheaper but fit poorly in the battery box (terminals positioned slightly differently). Went with the HD for fitment and it looks better since it’s exposed on my ‘03

great video ... thanks, I have a 2004 Road King with the Screemin' Eagle kit and cams, switched out the exhaust which has stamped on the top "NOT FOR STREET USE", I guess because they are quite a bit louder than the stock exhaust. The rest of the bike is stock.
Can I use your setting for this bike and if not do you have a recommendation as to the jets etc.
Thanks again, Clinton
04 would be an 88ci, i would start with 190/48.
@@STLNik I believe it is now a 96 ci 1550 cc. Would you still use the 190/48? Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly and for the information, You rock ....
96 with a cam and exhaust start with a 195/50 and give that a try. I'd rather be a little fat than a little lean
Great information! I'm going to try installing one on a Yamaha Road Star 1600
Also you can notch the screw with a file so it never wipes off
Any experience with the Mikuni knock offs ?
Not personally but the CV and S&S knockoffs have worked well.
Ever done a Mag Marelli to carb conversion ? I’d love to get your take on that.
I haven't but I know they're popular because that Mag Marelli system is crap.
@@STLNik I’m almost done with mine on 2000 RK. I rebuilt a cv carb but thinking about Mikuni now
Thanks for the explanation,
But now I’m thinking how I can use these on a Honda st1100. 🤔
If you go to cvp and get , emulsion tube , accelerator pump nozzle and softer spring CV will RIP. If making big power they have hi Flo inlet as well .
And custom needle as well
I've got a magneto xlch that I'm puting one of these puppies. I figure it should start easier with that effectively smaller venturi for starting.
I just saw this vid about a year old. Have you had better luck with the chock cable not holding the chock button out? I've had several and it's that cheap plastic 'collet' that always fails to hold the chock.
Thanks with a sub/likie
I've had great success with these carbs to the point of keeping them in stock in my shop, no choke issues to speak of. I usually install a new choke cable at the same time though. Thanks for watching
Used an Amazon CV 40 carb for my virago 535 bc the dual carbs were trashed and it works amazing, better even.
I have the same bike, looking to fit this carb, any advice? Much love from Ireland✌🏼
I put one on my 06 883. Went with the 42 pilot jet 45 was too rich. Runs perfect.
New to carbs , last bike was ego but I got a 98 883 turned into a 1200. You think I'd have to rejet it a bit bigger? Thanks 🙏🏼
Depending on exhaust and intake some variations will occur, I simply share what has worked for my setup
I like my stocker just fine I was worried about adding a thunder jet but fuck it I guess lol
My 04 fxd has brass inlet but I'm like the 5th owner and got it with under 6k and leaky intake seals
Dude. My 97 fatboy has leaking seals and I cannot get them sealed to save my life. I’m sending it to a shop. I’m at my wits end
@@knowbody9679 James gasket seals and make sure your flanges are not warped by laying on a glass table to see if flat, the james gasket is a different design, it took me 3 trys and 2 seasons to get right...

Dude. Thanks. I just ordered some James gaskets. They are different. I bet they work. My flanges are straight. But I ordered those new also. Im still sending it to a shop next week so they can do it. Are you talking the blue James gaskets??
@@knowbody9679 yea it fits over the end like wraps around it with a groove so it rides on the gasket and seats better
Just curious if you've ever had an issue with float height setting being off on any of the Amazon carbs. I've got one of the early 40mm CV carbs that had the dual round floats that are hard to replace and have an Amazon carb in my cart as we speak. Thanks for the video. Really helpful!
I've never had a single issue with anything on these. I actually keep a couple in stock for customers.
I saw you recommended a 48/180 set up in 1200 Sportster, was that correct?. I'm reading a 45 is tops on pilot. I have 883/1200 hop up with 45/170, runs good but want a bit more. Nice vids by the way, keep it up👍
45 would be fine, i like to run a bit fat because ive melted a piston before.
@@STLNik I just got a 48 and 180, worth trying them?
I do not know why someone would worry about putting an Amazon carburetor on their bike when Harley uses parts from all over the world.
Ride safe.
Im running a knock off s&s carb. 45$. Besides wrong accelerator pump in it. Ps. Cv carbs is right one. Thing rips nuts on my 1200 sporty
Sorry i know the video is about a year old lol. Im looking at doing a cv40 single carb conversion on my yamaha virago 535 and was wondering about jettings for set up. I was thinking 45 pilot and 155 main see how she goes
Hey brother could you recommend a intake manifold for a sv carb that will fit to a 2017 883 iron being converted from efi to carb. ..great vedio man👍👍👍👏👏👏
I believe you'll need the intake manifold from a 04-06 sportster. I'd try to find a used one on ebay.
@@STLNik thanks so much I'll start looking👍👍👍👍👍
I have a 2003 Heritage that am going to put a CV40 off ebay
Got a similar cv carb for my xt225 a while ago. Been having hell getting it right. Seems to start decent but slowly dies as it heats up. Any advice would be appreciated.
I bought one for $56 that came with choke cable.
Hi, a question, How i put two carbs together (join) if I have tween carbs setup on my V- tween?(there is a single accelerator cable and a single choke cable) Thanks.
I been having a problem with mine i did a single cv carb swap on my 87 yamaha virago 535 my bike runs but the vacuum slide does not come up and it dies when i give it full throttle any help would be awesome
I new subscriber great I found uR Channel I buy Amazon all the time & need an New CV carb for my 2000 1200 xlc .w/ 35K miles .can you Please recommend witch brand to Buy Amazon ..Otherwise I guess ill Go with the Best & Most reviews ..Thanks In Advance
On my new carb the accelerator pump isn’t working on mine not spraying fuel from the nozzle
Carbs simple to me iv worked on them 36 years lol iv split no telling how many crank cases on dirt and street bikes over the years
What would you do different to the carb for the big twin engines?
Just look up the proper jet sizes for your displacement. I usually find the factory size and go up 1
A 88ci 2003 carb factory 45/190 whats your opinion on this set?
Where do you start your idle speed screw at?
Can you put a link in the description for 2000 harley spoerster 1200c?
A carb kit you can get for 15 to 20 bucks.
Maybe the basic seal kits, but I haven't seen a total rebuild kit that cheap.
@@STLNik I've bought entire kits for that much.
@@SaddleTrampTV send a link of this 20 bucks full rebuild kit.
Sick, I just ordered one of these. $45 on blackfriday with free shipping.
Are the parts on these interchangeable with the original Keihn carb? I was thinking of putting the bowl with the drain on my stock carb to make it easier to winterize the bike.
The screws are metric thread but other than that it should line up
Thanks@@STLNik
Would u recommend those same jets for 883?
I have an amazon carb on an 89 883 i jusg bought, throttle cable is sloppy loose at max extension, and the new cable i bought for an 89 sporty seems to not have enough free length, any tipa on whag cable yall are running?
What jets you recommend for 90 Electra glide with an evo? It’s stock installed the cv and got it running but will cough it came installed with a 45/170
Can this be changed to a single throttle cable? Do you have the links to what you purchased? I have a 88 1200 that I am building.
I use mine with just a single throttle cable. If you search cv carb on Amazon they will come up.
cool bike man!
How many turns out did it take to tune that one?
Does that have the pumper, is it the cvk40 do you have a link for that one
What do you think about adapting a pair of these on a 2.3 liter 4 cyl? Its got a stromberg cv carb and i cane across this looking for some tuning tips. Also curious if the lifting the piston method for air fuel tuning is applicable.
I'm sure it could be done but I'm not sure it would be worth the effort.
I've ridden and wrenched HDs since before the posers took over the market and while selling Bubba with more money than sense paid off for HD
I have nothing to do with those people. Real bikers wrench. Real car people wrench. Real gearheads wrench.
Carbs BTW are so simple they're basically a toilet float with some plumbing. My long-deceased grandmother and mother drove a T Model Ford on their rural mail route in the 1930s
and managed just fine with manual throttle and ignition levers. Anyone who CHOOSES to learn can do so. I've never been stranded by a carb. Not so with EFI pumps...
I like them too. Keep pushing cheers
Exactly what brand/manufacturer of Chinese carburetor do you buy? I have noticed several different brands.
Is it bad idea to replace CV carburetor to a slide one in a 450cc dual cylinder chopper? what are the cons? hard to find a cv one for reasonable price..
What was the float level?

Does anybody recommend these Amazon CV cards for an 93-96 evo(electra glide classic/road king?)and...wud i jet it the same?the motor is a 1340...thanx alot fellas!
After watching this I took a chance on one. Could never get the stock carb dialed in (PO had a dynojet kit). Runs better, smoother. Thanks man. 🔥
Can anyone tell me if the Amazon carb takes standard jets and needle/seat? Thanks!
I have a question not directed to the video but on a CV40 carburetor do you know if the teardrop aircleaner mod fits on these carbs or not?
They have the same bolt pattern as a Harley carb, so any mod that works on the harley carb should work
Would you use a 180 and 48 on a 883?
Depends. I do on mine because I have straight pipes and no air cleaner. Most would be good at 170/45
Make sure you take your elevation into play when jetting too. Can't stress this enough, make sure your timing is perfect before playing with the carb. I have a 2005 883 with 45/180 jets with the fuel air needle out 2.5 turns. Sea level with Vance and Hines longshots and aftermarket air filter.
I’ll never buy another battery for my Harley off of Amazon
I buy orilleys batteries so I can have a nationwide warranty.
I checked Batteries plus, a local motorcycle supply shop and HD dealer- the one from batteries plus was $20 cheaper but fit poorly in the battery box (terminals positioned slightly differently). Went with the HD for fitment and it looks better since it’s exposed on my ‘03
What jets would you recommend for a 2000 Harley fat boy 1340 ??
