Pete, you have a great mechanic’s skill set. Proof of that skill set is an almost complete lack of the utterance of the word, “oops.” When I work on machinery, that word and several more of the not safe for public utterance are often the most used words. I enjoy your tutorials on rebuilding, maintaining, and repairing farm equipment. Your channel is always a joy to watch.

Your mechanical acumen is one of the things that makes you successful at farming. I’ve never seen a good farmer who wasn’t very mechanically inclined.

In college I had a 1978 VW DASHER. THE CARP WAS BLOCKED AND DIDN'T HAVE 150 TO BUY A NEW ONE. So my buddy and I bought a rebuild kit. Holy smoke how many parts in a carb? A bizzilion. Lol. Rebuilt it with 5 or 6 parts left over. It ran for 4 years after THAT. Still shocked it did. Lol

Great video and very timely for me. I just got my first tractor, fully depreciated I might add, and my fist diagnosed problem was the carburetor. Your video gave me a number hints before I start taking it apart, cleaning,, and reassembling.
Been a long time fan and I am watching all of your videos from the beginning and I am about 5 month behind right now, but I made the exception to watch this one as it applied directly to what I am doing now. Thanks again.

Enjoyed this video very much. A long time ago I rebuilt a carburetor for an AMC Hornet. I read and reread the kit instructions and followed them to the letter. I soaked the parts like done here reassembled and set the floats, and adjusted as in the kit instructions. I could not get it to start! The car sat in my yard for awhile because we really didn't need to drive it and then someone we knew needed a car to get back and forth to work. So we gave it to them and my father in law came and fiddle with the mixture screw slightly and boom it started and ran like a top! My father in law compliment me on the rebuild. the fella came and got the car. I felt pretty good about it. A week or so later we saw the fella again and he was driving a sporty new car. I asked about the Hornet and he said "Oh I took it to the junk yard and got 50 bucks for it and bought this new one on credit." I was a lot peeved about that. But it was a learning process in more ways than one.

Another great tutorial Pete. I had to laugh when you got the carb off and I spotted the patchy paint left on it. I said to myself. "he's not going to let that paint job go for sure." Yep I was right. and again during the reassembly. when you got to the low speed screw, I said to myself ok all the way in and then back it out turn and a quarter. and low and behold thats what you did. and that came from my training back in 1960!! at fuel and electric school at Aberdeen Training grounds. as a mechanic in the Army. some things just don't get lost do they. Thanks again Pete can't wait to see the paint job on it. and the reinstall and "tweaking" God Speed.ECF

Great job. It just shows people that you have to be a jack of all trades to be a framer. Some people be like why not take it some place. When you are a farmer money it tight most of the time and nothing like the joy of knowing you are pretty self sufficient. Y'all stay safe and good luck.
