I dont know what you people are doing but I've had my Model 3 for almost 2 years and never had any funky aromas. I did have this issue with my last two Prius. Also, the price of the Model 3's are based on the battery costs, not the finishes. We all paid up for our cars knowing it was to help fund other projects. So comparing it to other cars in the same price range isnt apples to apples. ty
They are great cars (my favorite car I've driven so far) there's no doubt about that. I think this issue is from the heat.. Living in a hot climate can't be a good thing for a car (even when garage kept). Tesla's are worth every penny, I agree 100%.
I don't think this is much of an issue anymore as with a firmware update earlier this year I have noticed the fans staying on for 30 seconds or so after parking and sometimes when I just sit in the car and the AC comes on, when i get out i hear the fans blowing out the moisture.
Great eye! I thought it may have been a bit confusing to explain it in the video but the final amount paid was about $137 (the $119 + $17 for another filter). Not sure why the original invoice only showed 1 filter.. Thanks for asking!
Thank you so much for sharing this information! I believe that Tesla has made an engineering error in the design of the hvac unit, because most cars do not have this problem whatsoever. My guess is that is has to do with the lower filter that is so far down in the box that it gets much wetter than it should, especially in warm and wet climates, like Florida. But, I have seen people in Los Angeles have this problem, too. Our Ford Focus Electric and our Ford CMax PHEV have a single filter in almost the same spot as the Model 3 and the Model Y. To my knowledge, those cars never had the smell problem because the filter is not so low in the box.
The smell comes from mold that grows in the moisture that condenses inside the cold a/c ducts after you turn off your car. You can avoid most of this problem by turning off the a/c, but leave the fan running. I usually turn off the a/c about a quarter mile from home. Leaving the fan running will help disperse the condensation that forms on the cold a/c ducts. Also helpful to roll down a window for that last quarter mile to help reduce the humid air inside your car. I don't know if that mold is harmful, but it sure is stinky. You can also look for charcoal infused replacement filters because the charcoal will help reduce the unpleasant odors, but it won't eliminate really strong odors so an a/c duct cleaning may be in order. Most car detailers can do this if you don't want to try it yourself.
I agree with this solution and have done this with all my cars, it is a universal problem of condensation that forms if you just turn off the air-con on park. Interestingly, Tesla would have a solution for this with a software update as they could run the fan for a few minutes if you put the car in park and leave with the air-con still active.
I replaced both cabin filters with the much more expensive one with the activated carbon and very high quality HEPA filtration. The air really does smell wonderful, just like Tesla Raj found in the video that he made about them. I just hope that there is no smelly wet problem in the future. I will remove the filters after a year or two and let the carbon be exposed to direct UV radiation from the sun, to recharge the carbon's capabilities.
Nice info, but something tells me that after you start researching other channels.. the name will probably change (unless a requirement for credit from Tesla).. unless you're going to duplicate content similar to what others are already saying.. I like the show me how part of your vlog.. now I have to figure out how to get one of these..
Thats true. The manual has all the part# and directions of how to do it... only thing u really need to bring in is for fluids. My service center always encourage me to diy. They show me where and how when i brought my car in. They showed me how to change filter, jack points for wheel rotations, where to fill washer fluids, and didnt charge me for first rotation.
Just an FYI all cars have this issue and need for changing these filters. I’ve worked at Lexus Ford and GM and these issues are in all cars just an FYI. It’s like your ac filter at home you need to change those every 6 months.
just made the appointment. 6 months is in 8 days. good call man. was sent here by divine intervention lol. thanks!
Right on! Right place at the right time!
I'm in Toronto looking to get one, but our summers still get pretty hot sometimes, so thanks for this bit of info!
Happy to help!
Thank you for this very informative video. It was short, but you did an excellent job of providing valuable information. Keep up the GREAT work.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you Tom!
Excellent info. Keep up the good work :)
Thanks!

I hope so Glenn, I'll keep an eye on these new filters to see if the smell comes back.
Thank you for sharing
Great video
Thanks Logan!
The fix for the filter is not only to change it….it’s to keep the water from entering the filter area.
I still haven't seen a video for the right hand drive version. Much more complicated as you have to deal with the steering wheel and pedals.
I haven't either, that would be super helpful to see!
Great job. Do you happen to know if this problem is consistent with the Model S?
2:30 The car needs two filters but on the receipt they only put one?

@@ThatTeslaChannel I see, they made a mistake and corrected it later...thanks for explaining!
@@ThatTeslaChannel Thank you for clearing that up, because I also noticed that.

i love how tesla is not discouraging diy fixes unlike apple :/

Used Renault Zoe is the best everyday driver anyone can buy.
