    • @justinarmstrong540
      @justinarmstrong540 5 ปีที่แล้ว +29

If I remember correctly DEF aka uria is nothing more than urine & other chemicals along with regening that cause a diesel to have burn hotter to burn off the pollutants 1100-100deg Fahrenheit out of the exhaust tips. This alone has caused many trucks in my industry (trucking) to burn to the ground, some while the drivers were sleeping. It has had negligible benefits to fuel economy while pouring hot nasty stinking white exhaust into the air

I was pulled over a couple months ago In Bryan, Tx. The sheriff bent over and looked under my truck, I was so confused. He walked up to my window and said “your trucks deleted” “where is your DPF” I honestly had no idea what to say. I didn’t even think cops knew about deletes and emissions, if anything I thought it would be a trooper giving me crap. I bought the truck with 120k miles with it already being deleted. I told him I can’t afford to put it back to stock. I’m currently in college and working for a cattle company and honestly I don’t make much. He gave me a ticket for (no muffler and faulty emissions). Showed up to the court house a couple weeks later with a muffler and the Marshall has no idea what he was looking at so he signed the fix it ticket.

Being a hvac technician your biggest concerns are either combustion analysis on boilers/ process ovens. Proper ways to discard of glycol, bromide, and reclaim/ recovering refrigerant. There’s nothing that’s more difficult now then what it has been. Unless your just blowing your gauges off or tuning equipment like shit.

My wife and I both have 4wd Ram pickups. I have an Ecodiesel engine. My wife has the Cummins.
I must run at least 2oz of Hots Shots Secret Extreme Clean every tank of fuel. Otherwise I get a P24AE code.
If a fuel additive prevents OBD2 codes. The fuel must be the weak factor. I am looking to add a water injection system soon. Which seems to prevent the same code on a friends truck.
The EPA was involved in testing from 1974 or so until about the year 2000. That studied water injection and other fuels in diesel and spark fired engines. It seems that G.W. Bush shut that stuff down. One of the items of study was using butanol instead of ethanol as an oxygenation additive and octane boster. Seems George wanted to please the Iowa caucus. So ethanol was pushed for further implementation. Which also affected the food supply costs in the US and Mexico.

Personally in my younger years, now 42, I loved the Diesel engine. Always have and always will. I’ve owned three in my life. F350 7.3 l which I had straight piped with injectors and turbo upgrades. Trans upgrade, rear end and drive shaft upgrades. It was a great great truck. Was lots of fun and like you said could roll coal, but not too bad. The name of the game was power, black heavy smoke was excess fuel being burned and dumped. Not enough air. Had the bigger Aurora’s in it. The def, big deal it’s 4 gallons for my Cummins now every 6000 miles or so at 40 bucks. NO BIG DEAL.
Personally I like where the diesel has gone. I like that it’s quiet now, love that it doesn’t stink and give me headaches all the time. Love not hearing as much of turbo wine. I’m sure adding aftermarket to emissions compliant trucks will get much much better now that it sounds like more tuners will be designed that way. I liked the video very much but where I’m at in life now, I like things the way they are. Little more efficiency and more power? Sure I’ll take that, even if it means no black smoke, no loud pipes and turbos like a drag car is waiting to take off. I’m ok with this now. Technology changes and guidelines change, we are now at that crossroads for the Diesel engine. I’m actually pretty exited to see where it goes. If I could have a truck that could be as powerful, output as much torque if not more than one that’s deleted, and be quiet in the process and stink? I’m all for it.

Theres other fuels for diesels that are not bad to burn but instead they want us to have some crazy emission expensive bullshit on our trucks and add another fluid to it "DEF" and also makes our trucks less reliable!

I could be totally wrong, but I’m pretty sure any tuner could get those certifications, Kory just spent the money up front when he saw this coming, and with his past experiences and legal battles with the EPA, figured in the long run it would be the better decision financially and legally. Not sayin I’m happy about ppei race tunes going away, as I was really looking forward to getting my L5P done, but I also don’t think that he specifically got in bed with the EPA with a special deal just for him.

And it's been like that for at least 4 yrs now. I can't go into detail, but it pretty shady. Kory doesn't care anymore. All he wants is dollars. Which I can't blame him. Not only has been rubbing shoulders with gale but also the owner of duramax tunning. The guys at duramax tunning been shoving emission intact tunning for a while now. Saying the same thing kory is saying now. Almost like they are reading from the same sales pitch line.Their's a lot to it. To much to type. Hope the best for everyone. I will say this. We do a lot of talking and typing. But no action. Including myself. A compromise should be met. Like giving us a chance to prove tuners can make a clean tune with a deleted truck, maybe enforcing a muffler, maybe a sout count. Like if your one of those dumb asses steadily rolling Cole or have a dirty tune that smokes heavy while at idle. Go after them.

What's next? 2 stroke leaf blowers, weed wippers, and chainsaws going to have exhaust filters on them? They would be to heavy to handle. What about farmers and road construction equipment? The farmers would be the ones getting the worst of it, barely getting by as it is. But I guess the epa doesn't eat. They grow their own food? Diesels bring the food to the grocery stores. Something to think about.

Lol I used to fuel ships and tank barges , and we would transport oil to electric companies up north the run from corpus Christi Texas to Chicago would burn more than 80 to 90000 gallons of diesel. And that's to bring oil to a place that already has coal to burn lol. Then they bring the coal down south. And the ships that are carrying crude from places like Saudi Arabia are huge way bigger than a cruise ship and they burn huge amounts more fuel than the cruise ships just to carry the oil to a refinery here in the states. So I think the EPA is BS and it only applies to the US and no were else. They should let us do what we want instead of trying to just take our money. Anyway just my 2 cents.

There’s a lot more moving parts than just the tuning aspect. Right now, we have multiple states trying to sue the president, because he thinks that the new fuel economy regulations are trash. So what that means is these states are going to step up and say “you know what, we’re tightening our standards”. A lot of them don’t require smog on diesel trucks. So let’s say they start. That means that joe, who was sick and tired of putting tons of money into his 6.4 diesel but loved the truck itself and decided to do a Cummins swap, is screwed. Because now he’s up for a smog check, in a 2008-2010 pickup, with zero emissions equipment intact(because they don’t have any). The tuning aspect sucks, but if this turns into as big of a pissing match as it’s looking like right now, the diesel community is really going to be screwed. I love Diesel engines, (don’t own one but I’m working on it, work for it 💪🏻) and i really don’t like the direction this is going.

I drive a coal rolling 6.0. Love diesels. Especially big rigs. I’m happy behind the wheel of a C15. Right now, our delivery company is considering the option of a Tesla semi. We service Denver and surrounding cities. Maintenance cost, fuel costs, fuel theft, lack of power at altitude... There are a lot of reasons to fork up the $50,000 deposit for a Tesla semi. Not to mention how it represents a smaller company like ours. None of the reasons did the environment come into play. Just happens to be a benefit after 10 years.

To be fair, Nuclear is the closest thing to carbon free energy produced today.

@@samisaacson6592 but then there's the little issue of nuclear waste, but that's not carbon based so we won't worry about that

As a bus driver, diesel fumes causes cancer and other health related issues , as a result idling our vehicles is illegal especially around schools or neighborhoods. NYS it’s 5min, now I understand we love the power and sound but the fumes from a deleted diesel vehicle is twice as toxic.
