The bats rise from the darkness when Bruce is attempting to leave The Pit, reestablishing that he is Batman. The bats rise for Robin, establishing that he’s up next. A passing of the bat-torch. Magnificent.

I love how the ending shows that Alfred did the opposite of Fail. He finally succeeded. Bruce is able to live the life he wishes and is happy, he kept his promise to Martha and Thomas.
Whats better is that Bruce has at last able to get up from his fall and free himself from that dark well by himself, that he at last is able to free himself from the bat that has haunted him since his childhood and is able to become a normal person at last.
But why did Alfred not go to Bruce to say hello? I mean he could have been an uncle to Bruce's Kids or so.. I dont understand why they wouldn't wanna spent time together

When Alfred sees him, he puts his credit card back in his wallet, knowing that Bruce already paid for his meal. It's also amusing to think that maybe *Bruce owned the entire restaurant* anyway
Me too! I remember watching these movies when I was 7 or 8 years old. These films were my first superhero films, and I've loved Batman ever since. But watching after so many years, understanding all the emotions in these movies, I AM BLOWN AWAY!
I have normally not been that hyper excited but I did when she said "Robin". We millenials had the best Super Trilogy. The Marvel GenZ will never get to this level.
That's the amazing part. The hero and villains are not guys with superpowers clashing. They are just mindless psychological terrors that have been shaped by the society. Its marvelous
That's why batman is so great because he doesn't need powers to be amazing. Whenever I see Superman take down a thug I'm like "wow that was cool I guess" because the guy has so many different powers that could obliterate the guy but with batman all he has is his brain and his awesome fighting skills!
@@prateekmishra215 I mean he still is a superhero. He fights for the greater good using abilities most people don't possess and has his own superhero name/persona. @@static4802 and also to add to your comment we see that fox learned of a software patch to the auto pilot system by Bruce Wayne himself. Indicating he was able to use autopilot and survive.
In his own subtle way, Bruce let all his friends know that he is alive. Fox with the software patch, Gordon with the fixed searchlight, Blake with the batcave instructions. But Alfred is the only one who got to see him, making true Alfred's dream/fantasy. It is the perfect ending to the trilogy.
After seeing this many times I just realize the gravity of this shot at 0:50. It first just shows Bruce’s grave which is who they’re mourning and focused on but as Alfred moves to the right it shows who Alfred is mourning. The Wayne family as a whole as he cared for all of them and seen them all pass. Only Alfred truly understands and he was alone in that which hurts cuz he did everything he could
The way he answered it seems like showing how ironic the people of Gotham can be. Batman has been doing so much for Gotham, but the people want to hunt him down throughout the movies. Then he 'died' for the city and all of sudden he is their hero, even though he always is before he made such sacrifice...

The fact that he left a little of him to everyone he cared of: to Blake, his cave's coordinates; to Mr. Fox, the ID that he repaired the machine; to Gordon, the bat on the roof; and to Alfred, the mansion and the satisfaction of knowing he was alive.
Probably one of the most iconic endings, just inspirational. I saw this in IMAX with my wife when it came out. Seeing Bruce rise up and overcome and finally have redemption and that clarity to be free was so great. He could finally live a life in happiness and not regret or vengeance for his father and mother. You got the sense that he could finally be happy and enjoy life .

He had been through so much like losing both parents, lover blown to bits, having to kill your mentor, wrongfully accused of killing cops, fugitive, back broken, thrown in prison and climbs out to save the city from nuclear destruction while believed to have been killed in the process... This mans journey and his will to push forward made the entire trilogy
Michael Caine's apology for his failure to Thomas and Martha Wayne is incredible acting. His redemption in the rest of this scene is incredible filmmaking.

I think its not only that, but the house sheltered him through tough times after he lost his parents so i think he wanted it to do the same after he was gone.
Not just that it shows that bruce wayne was his mask and the mask was an eccentric billionaire who wouldnt leave his home to an orphanage hence why he didnt put his name there. He doesnt identify as bruce wayne so he doesnt care if he gets recognition for what he did . He wanted to create "the batman" and he did but he also wanted a real life and now he has both. Bruce wayne was never his real life he had to kill him so he could be himself.
Strange, until now I never understood why Oldman touched the Batsignal like that. It finally hit me, Oldman destroyed it at the end of 'The Dark Knight'. It being fixed here, is Bruce his way of secretly telling him he's alive and well. All the important people in his life now know not to worry. Gordon has the Batsignal, Fox has the autopilot patch and Alfred gets the nod.
It’s amazing how deep Christopher Nolan makes these endings. The fact that the autopilot patch comes first, making the viewer confused, and then the Batsignal, and finally Bruce in real life, confirming our suspicion and making us realize each of those scenes was to tell Bruce’s friends that he’s still alive. People will be watching these films in 100 years.

@HI EVERYBODY with their track record right now I can only hope they don't make a robin spin off, not after wonder women 2, that was the worst fillm in history, I didn't even spend any money on it or ever watch the full thing, but just knowing how bad and cringy it is....... No DC can not be trusted right now.
@HI EVERYBODY go ahead an say it dude..... Embarrass yourself and ruin any credibility you could have and say that wonder women 2 wasn't awful. Yeah DC hires new mangers and directors all the time and it's painfully obvious that they were trying to copy marvel and failed, they should stick with darker, more complex themed movies that shadow the comics like batman did.

I'm sure Bruce didn't want Blake to know he's alive because he wanted someone else to take his place, that's why in the end you see blake wanting to become the next dark knight
I think this is completely overlooked for the fact that Bruce Wayne has given up his Wayne Manor and wealth to continue providing for the orphans and guide them. Majority of the criminals came from orphans and single parent homes due to lack of discipline and parental figure. This time, he's fighting crime before it even happens. The city killed a young man, disabled him, shackled him and no one will ever know the sacrifices he made to save it.
I cannot explain how excited I was when I saw the ending in the theatre. That beat drop when Alfred sees Bruce gives me so much chills. Literaly the perfect ending to an amazing trilogy.
Alfred and Bruce's relationship is the heart of the trilogy and I loved that it ended with them showing their love and respect for one another!
When Alfred sees him, he puts his credit card back in his wallet, knowing that Bruce already paid for his meal.
It's also amusing to think that maybe *Bruce owned the entire restaurant* anyway

Amazing how this trilogy is considered the best Superhero trilogy yet it's about a guy who doesn't even have superpowers.

Batman is not a superhero. He is an intellectual hero.
@@prateekmishra215 I mean he still is a superhero. He fights for the greater good using abilities most people don't possess and has his own superhero name/persona. But why didnt they even talk?
@@ariantaghdiri7937 because interacting with him could have inadvertantly tied Bruce to his past. Bruce was starting a new life, completely leaving behind his old one. I like how the plaque says “Martha and Thomas Wayne Home For Children”. Shows how selfless Bruce was and how he didn’t want any recognition for his good deeds
@@jamessicat Nolan chose that ending to perform 'Inception' in our mind that if the ending is real or a dream
And he succeeded
"You trusted me and I failed you " Heart wrenching scene but it makes the payoff at the end even better. Alfred didnt fail anyone. Their son got to move on with his life and live happily in the end. Glad Alfred got to see that Bruce actually did hear him. Greatest trilogy ever.
Honestly, my big problem with that scene is that Bruce would have sacrificed himself to save all of Gotham. He would not have died needlessly as Alfred thought. I really thought Alfred would have understood that.
@@henrypeters5291nah, this scene is perfect
@@henrypeters5291i believe Alfred already sees him as his son, he raised bruce since he was a baby, and not a single guardian or parenta want to see their son die even if its for saving the world.
Alfred still acpt his death and understood it, but ofc, he has the right to be sad since bruce is all he has left.
@@vinhkylee1616 Obviously he is right to be sad but even without knowing that Bruce is alive he should not feel that he failed anyone.
@@henrypeters5291 i mean he did not know that bruce was still alive when he was at his grave, the coffee scene was the reveal point to Aflred, i believe Alfred was thinking something like "Oh right, what am i even thinking, ofc he would figure out the way to survive as always".
When Alfred cried I cried. When Alfred smiled I smiled.
he cried at thomas and martha wayne isn't it?
@@m.rashyarasetya1054 Yeah that scene is so sad I cried with Alfred.
True. He's probably the best Alfred ever. The casting for this entire trilogy is on point tbh.
Are you Alfred?
When alfred fart you fart 😎
"This movie will always be iconic for everyone, especially for me."
There is honestly not any other way to end this perfectly. This ending here is just perfect
Batman died
Bruce Wayned lived and finally got a peaceful life
All the attemps of Ras,Joker and Bane to corrupt Gotham failed
Gordon notices the symbol of Batman, realizing that there is still hope for a better tomorrow
Alfred is releaved and happy, that after all these years, the man that he has taken care ever since he was a kid is now moved past that awful cave, became a normal person. Now he has fulfilled his promise to his parents, because Bruce was finally happy.
Robin is born and now he is the one who will take the place of Batman as the new protector of Gotham
I dare you to tell me a more fitting ending to this trilogy than this
It's perfect. I think when Gordon realized the searchlight he destroyed in The Dark Knight was fixed, he knew the Batman did it then smiled looking for him, knowing Gotham would always have a silent protector.
Bruce died too, i guess he got a new identity.
@@Findair yea, since he has that identity wipe software, he and catwoman can be anyone they want.
Christopher80611 if you really think about it, Christopher Nolan can easily adapt robin into future films considering how he alone has tons of story’s that could be made to live action
Now they just need to make a Robin movie directed by Christopher Nolan with Joseph Gordon Levitt as the lead.
Christian bale is born to do this role. We just can't imagine any other person fitting that bruce wayne character.
Kevin conroy
Zak McAndrew live action I think no
He is my only batman actor no one can top him as batman
You said it Too Early
@@Vis1786 kevin conroy my ass, we are talking about live action actor, not just voice actor, you think conroy can act like bale? LOL
What I love about this scene is Bruce knew exactly how to let each person he cared about know that he was alive and well
He made Alfred's dream come true by being at the Cafe place and showing he was doing well far from Gotham, beautiful relationship between the two.
@@jermainehaslam5634but I don't get the "autopilot" part. It got updated or something? Does that mean it was Bruce's message that he was alive or doing well?
@@mob1_ He must of tinkered with it after Lucious gave it to him, modified the vehicle or something.
@@mob1_ If i remember the movie correctly, the autopilot was not working yet as far as the others knew, thats why they thought he had to fly the bomb away himself, so the reveal that the autopilot was fixed meant that he did not need to be in the cockpit, and therefore didnt get caught up in the explosion
@@sir_wyvern7822 so he solved the autopilot problem, jumped out of the cockpit just in time and faked his death? Damn
Thanks friend, i get the ending now
I was 24 when this came out and man it was one of the most amazing experiences I had
My dad took me to the midnight showing when this came out, everyone in the theater cheered when they showed Bruce at the table. He passed away a few years ago but he was a huge fan of nolan and loved movies in general. I always think about him when I come across this scene.
May he rest in peace my friend.
May yr dad RIP
My deepest commiserations for your loss my friend. Your father certainly sounded like a man of discerning taste when it came to movies.
Sorry for your loss 🤍
Awwwww
The dark knight music is better than the entire justice league movie
Manash Jyoti Saikia
Screw justice league
Hans Zimmer 💯💯💯💯
JL has a little Hans Zimmer at the end
*the entire DCEU
How can you mention the names of those movies in the same sentence?
TH-cam didn’t recommend this... we searched for this masterpiece. 🦇🥺
damn right
YES
Amen brother, the perfect conclusion
Actually it did recommend it xd
yep
The music combined with the line of no one knows who saved a city and the statue unveiling gets me every time.

TrueZubZero 😂😂😂😂
Didn't he murder his wife?
STE VO Technically speaking, he didn’t murder her, he drove her to suicide. I mean she still died because of him, but not by his hand.
Nice twist
man it's tough not to watching this ending.
Michael Keaton can be Batman, Ben Affleck can be Batman, but Christian Bale my friends: was, is and will be THE DARK KNIGHT
Paloma Pseudoautista he is the silent guardian the watchful protector. A Dark Knight.
the perfect culmination of Batman and Bruce. the perfect mix of terror, sorrow and fear. the perfect Dark Knight; the perfect trilogy.
True. Keaton and Elfman's time was iconic but we never really got a fully fleshed out Batman story on the big screen until Nolan's trilogy.
You could argue that Christian Bale isn't the best Batman but undoubtedly he is the best Bruce Wayne
What is the difference between him and him?
He doesn't wear hockey pads...
When you realise Alfred wasn’t telling Bruce that he failed him but rather Martha & Thomas Wayne that he failed the task he was handled by leaving Bruce alone.
Oh man......
That's a stupid thought.
Alfred was sorry Thomas& Martha, not Bruce.
He literally turned and looked at their graves... why do people still act like it was meant to be subtle LOL
sheiiiiit
It always gives me goosebumps doesn't matter how many times I watch
it is perfect ....pure cinema
the feeling after watching this can't be written !!!
This is the ending of the best trilogy of all time. I am 57 years old an I have read Batman since I was 8. There is no other Dark Knight except for this one.
Wow , that's good to hear man 😎🤘
Man that means a couple of batmans came and gone in your era. 🔥
Loved reading this 🥲💛
Way to go sir
Sir.. have you watched batman's animated movies like Mask of the phantasm, Under the redhood or the dark knight returns..? These are equally good like this trilogy..
Even after watching the new Batman and how amazing it was. Nolans trilogy will forever be left untouched. Simply Masterpiece.
Watched the new one the other day. And it was very good but I’m just not sure it can ever top the feeling this one gave me. Watched it growing up as a kid watched all bud the first in theatres. Still makes me tear up when I watch this one
@@SuperTC75 i just finished watching the trilogy this week and same, it made me tear up
I feel the exact way growing up on these movies, and this ending specifically.
I haven't seen the new one yet, is it worth watching?
@@rj1234100 if you like noir detective type movies, the new ones perfect for you. Also the coloring and soundtracks were amazing. The ending is beautiful.
@@skiehigh6969 I think the ending is OK.Definitely couldn’t top the dark knight trilogy’s three endings.

Alfred deserved an Oscar for that reaction. Shock, realization, repressed joy.
You can watch this for the 100th time and it will still leave in a rollercoaster of emotions, especially for a 80/90s kid.
