  • When it comes to riding, we want to do it all! Whether it's all day cross country epics, a singletrack blast in the woods, taking on enduro stages or lapping the bike park, we can't wait to get out there. While there are bikes designed for each of those disciplines, can one bike do them all - and do them well? Neil decided to put that idea to the test by building up his ultimate do-it-all trail bike, then going on a fun-filled road trip to find out...

Awesome video Neil. Loved the camping part with the fire and bike in the background...wicked shot! Not to mention the cold beer in the creek.
There's something about pulling out beer from a cold creek/ricer that makes the beer taste so much crisper!

A trail bike is the ultimate MTB because it's the style that fits the most people. If you don't ride pro level hard or send massive jumps then it will have enough travel for it and if you aren't trying to get KOMs or competitive racing then the weight won't be an issue. It's the goldilocks bike.

2:23 Gotta love the English countryside sunken/overgrown backroads...
Took mum for an OE to see her parents origin spots and at one stage she asked if I could move over to the right a bit, I was hitting the hedge with the mirror..
I had to point out I was hitting the mirror on the other side as well... (This was a 2 way country lane near Wadebridge).
Loved the Pom drivers... Exiting one of these sunken roads, with a stone fence and hedge well above on both sides... No footpath... Motorway speed traffic crossing in front of us, absolutely no way to see the oncoming traffic...
All of a sudden a bumper appeared to the right, pulling up to a stop so we could get out...
I guess they have the mentality that the roads are so tight, they have to give way, as they will be in the same position soon and if no one gives way, no one in the sideroads would ever get out.
(Dodged a bullet that day... Chose to go left to Padstow instead of right to Boscastle... The day the weather got a little wet... (There was a video of a car, bobbing nose down, through a creek in the middle of the town which normally was about 1 ft deep. (1 years rain in 1 hr). We got 5mins of drizzle in Padstow, while we watched the black cloud sitting up the coast.

I'd say a trail bike is good for any begginers on bike parks or trails..
That being said, for you it might be a bit limited:
In this video, we can clearly see you bottoming out the suspensions quite a few times wich might not happen with longer travel !
With that being said, what a stylish riding there, pushing that much with a tweaked ankle ! Really impressive

  • @colinl2908

What a great feature Manitou being able to adjust the travel from 100 to 150mm. Was thinking for my current 120mm hardtail, I'd have to upgrade the fork if I went to a Nukeproof scout frame, as they take 140mm. I have all transferrable parts except the most expensive-fork. One of those would work well.

I stand by my conclusion that modern XC bikes are the best. The majority of single tracks around the U.S need nothing more. They are lighter, faster, agile and take less effort. They have more than adequate suspension. They are built tougher with bigger frames, wider bars and slack(er) head tube angles. They rail corners, slingshot out, take some small jumps and climb like no other. If you actually live by a downhill course or want to ride a bike park than sure, you may want another bike but everyone should have an xc in their closet.
