The gravity from pulling the hair up out if the water each time, as well as the water weight in the hair helps to pull the strands straight. Then the cold water firms up the yarns again. If you were to leave the dolls hair in the boiling water, it could potentially melt as it is most likely made of PVCD (a transparent, flexible plastic which also makes Saran wrap), however, water turns to steam at the lowest possible melting temperature for PVCD (212° F), so melting isn't definite. ; )

I have an older Kaya I undid her pigtails a long time ago I'm kicking myself I want too try too fix her but when looking for videos they always said use a flat iron,do this,do that things I knew that I wouldn't want to do and too scared of doing. But this is something I can do and maybe even on my own. Other then the really hot water that all. Wow the newer Beforever kaya's hair is more even at the end then the 2 older Kaya's

I have a 25 year old Kirsten doll. Her hair is so brittle that it breaks every time I brush it. Will this method work to repair her hair or is it beyond repair?
Is there a way to use a similar method on wavy hair to remove frizz but not the waves (like Samantha) and does it work on textured hair (like Addy) but not remove the texture? Thanks!

Her hair is not the worst right now but it's definitely very frizzy and dry, and to brush out her entire head can take up to around 2 hours and costs me a bit of her hair. Obviously the curls didn't last long after purchasing her and now it's just kinda wavy and textured. If I use this method, will I be able to re-curl it or put waves (via braids) into her hair again? Or is the hair permanently straight? Plus will it lose the texture that you get from a curly haired doll? Did anyone else use this method on a Caroline or similarly curly haired doll? if you do the method on her, it will take away the frizz and make it straight, and then you could recurl it with Bobby pins or curlers to make it look like Caroline again. hope this helps!
The difference is incredible! Would it work if I glued a wig on? My Josefina is pretty old and very special to me and her wig fell came off and I used super glue to get it back on. Would the hot water loosen the glue to separate the wig from her head?
Can you do the hot water dunk to just the wig? my daughter and I were rewigging an old (2009) doll and kept its hair hoping to put it on a pre Mattel we got.
Hi! Thank you so much for this tutorial! I am beginning to tackle the process of making an american boy doll using a used Marie-Grace doll. Since the doll's wig was in such good condition, I've decided to re-wig my Rebecca (with the MG wig), who has very thin, frizzy hair, that is honestly beyond repair, as part of her wig cap is visible on one side. Although, because my Rebecca is more modern, I would like to straighten the Marie-Grace wig using this method, but I'm not sure if this method will work to straighten the pin curls, and if I should use this method with just the wig (without a doll attached) ,as I am removing the wig anyway, or remove the wig from the doll after I've straightened it? Please reply, because honestly, I'm a bit clueless, and could really use your opinion! Thanks! -Rainy
+Rainbow Lollipop Productions Rebecca with MG will look great :) Personally I find it easier to dry the wig if it's on the doll rather than off...it keeps the shape better...as for pincurls you could try keeping them away from the hot water - either by getting somebody else to help you hold them out of the way or pinning them/taping them away so they don't get dipped in the water - personally I've not straightened MG's wig with pincurls still intact (previous owner cut them off :( already)

I have a number 35 doll and I messed up her hair... and she has a layered wig, I messed up the ends not the top by the roots, but it is 2/3 messed up. Will this work on her? and will her hair feel like slick again?

I've been wanting to curl my #25's (Alexandra's) hair for a super long time to make her look more like me. I looked at your video on how to curl it using a water dunk, But I'm not 100% sure if I will like the curl. So, if I end up not liking it, could I use this method to straighten it again and have it be almost back to normal?
I just tried it last night on a our generation doll we got at a used store. Her hair improved allot :) her hair is not perfect but I only did it twice on her hair so I might have to do it more times
