At least HS2 continuing would have created jobs and infrastructure in this country. What's the Rwanda scheme doing except making Rwanda government officials wealthier? The trouble with "infrastructure" projects in the uk is that they cost so much. They make a big deal of it at the time, how it will create jobs and bring in money...and its cobblers. It creates jobs for a few years in construction. When its built the jobs are gone. There is nothing long term. And the costs and hangers on milk it dry so it ends up costing four times as much as it should. All industry is gone, steel making, tank and ship building, textiles and clothes...there is nothing left here we make or produce in large numbers as we cant compete. That used to employ lots of people full time long term jobs. The latest madness is to build all over farm land so we produce less food in the Uk for a growing population and import more of what we eat! When it should and could be grown here. Its all completely mad.

How he thinks that flying a negligible amount of people out of this country will satisfy the Tory right or Reform voters is beyond belief - even if he gets it through parliament, which he may not. Doesn't solve anything, doesn't change the numbers coming into the country, costs a ridiculous amount of money but you get to look like you hate immigrants more than anyone. Which is brilliant, you don't want to solve issues that make your base show up to vote, you want them to be angry about the issue and to think you're the only person who cares as much as they do. Dull bureaucratic solutions that improve things and don't fire up the base are exactly what they want to avoid.

The small boats and Rwanda scheme has nothing to do with immigration, its a distraction from the fact that the Tories have allowed a massive number of legal migrants from Africa and India to prop up GDP post-Brexit. They are pretending to be tough on immigration via this policy when in fact as a government they are allowing higher migration than the Blair years. The country should be having a conversation about if this is good or bad for the country rather than worrying about if this policy will work or not. Remember that when Suella is tweeting about immigration being so high - it happened on her watch as home sec
