Better to send all the Tories to Rwanda. I’d vote for that.
Now that is a good policy... and send ReformUK as well to make sure the Tories don't escape.
And it would be cheaper for the country 😂

At least HS2 continuing would have created jobs and infrastructure in this country. What's the Rwanda scheme doing except making Rwanda government officials wealthier? Montgomery creating an institution called 'The Centre For Social Justice' has got to win a prize for the most ironically named think tank in the country. What have the Tories done for social justice apart from making the rich wealthier and the poor poorer over the last 14 years.
Not to mentions the fact HS2 / HS3 would be a net benefit to the UK, while the Rwanda Plan is a loss at £1.5million per asylum seeker.
@@joshuaherbert2472after watching some of the asylum seekers on C4 news last night they would be an asset if allowed to work here as university educated and desperately escaping persecution.
Don't they always name their "think tanks" after things they don't believe in? (Tax Payers Alliance, Global Warming Policy Foundation.)
The trouble with "infrastructure" projects in the uk is that they cost so much. They make a big deal of it at the time, how it will create jobs and bring in money...and its cobblers. It creates jobs for a few years in construction. When its built the jobs are gone. There is nothing long term. And the costs and hangers on milk it dry so it ends up costing four times as much as it should. All industry is gone, steel making, tank and ship building, textiles and clothes...there is nothing left here we make or produce in large numbers as we cant compete. That used to employ lots of people full time long term jobs. The latest madness is to build all over farm land so we produce less food in the Uk for a growing population and import more of what we eat! When it should and could be grown here. Its all completely mad.
I live in Surrey. I have driven from Dorking to Redhill, I lost count of the number of potholes on the road between there and here. How much money has been wasted on the Rwanda policy and the fact they have lost sight of the basics to be fixed in this country, and worrying about appeasing the right wing of his party.
The money spent so far equates to 5,700,000 extra GP appointments or 95,000,000 free school meals for hungry kids. I know what I prefer to spend my taxes on and it's not crazy stunts like Rwanda!
People in the Dorset council area are grateful for the £ millions to fix potholes that has come out of the HS2 budget. What a fantastic way to invest tax payers' cash. I wonder what the next brilliant scheme is?

BS, I'm offended by this policy. The backlog is entirely down to the government going slow on processing applications.
No. it is down to illegal immigrants arriving in the tens of thousands. Once processed they still can't easily be removed. I wish you bleeding hearts would think of your own countrymen and less about foreign invaders.
Rwanda could be the policy that finishes Sunak. How he thinks that flying a negligible amount of people out of this country will satisfy the Tory right or Reform voters is beyond belief - even if he gets it through parliament, which he may not. It's a lose - lose scenario for Sunak, and with such a huge cost to something that'll make little difference to illegal immigration figures, what an idiot he was to make this his flagship policy.
It's about performative cruelty. Like painting over a mural because you can't be too welcoming to unaccompanied minors. Doesn't solve anything, doesn't change the numbers coming into the country, costs a ridiculous amount of money but you get to look like you hate immigrants more than anyone. Which is brilliant, you don't want to solve issues that make your base show up to vote, you want them to be angry about the issue and to think you're the only person who cares as much as they do. Dull bureaucratic solutions that improve things and don't fire up the base are exactly what they want to avoid.

The Rwanda story is so ironic. I am from South Africa and we have tremendous respect for the way Rwanda turned itself around after the genocide and how the country is run nowadays. French-speaking nation, English being the second language. If I could get an opportunity to work there, I will go tomorrow. Unfortunately the cost of living is very high. Farming is still in its infancy, it is a small land-locked country and most produce are imported.
You would go to Rwanda? No you won’t
The policy to send immigrants to Rwanda is a poor one and is not the fault of the Rwandan government. I visited Rwanda in December (totally unrelated to UK immigration) and was lucky enough to meet government ministers who are young and ambitious for the country. According to CIA, Rwanda is the best place to do business in Sub-Saharan Africa because it's systems work (including finance system) and it has the lowest incidence of corruption. People who are angry at the policy should blame the UK government, not Rwanda. Visit - you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yesterday evening, I was a group of middle-class retired people, the group that supposedly still backs the Conservatives. Not one of them supported the current government. While this was the Midlands, it was an area that's has a Tory council and has traditionally returned a Tory MP.
They all thought something needed to be done to stop the boat, but no one said the Rwanda plan was a good idea
The small boats and Rwanda scheme has nothing to do with immigration, its a distraction from the fact that the Tories have allowed a massive number of legal migrants from Africa and India to prop up GDP post-Brexit. They are pretending to be tough on immigration via this policy when in fact as a government they are allowing higher migration than the Blair years. The country should be having a conversation about if this is good or bad for the country rather than worrying about if this policy will work or not. Remember that when Suella is tweeting about immigration being so high - it happened on her watch as home sec
