- "There's a certain amount of frustration in what we see in what Russia is doing with its troops. It's throwing manpower away."
Russia's increasing loses show the Kremlin's desperation as they fail to move the frontline ahead of US weapons arrival, Gen. Philip Breedlove tells Kate Gerbeau on Frontline.

NATO has no role in the conflict, not even in providing aid. ALL aid is country-to-country.
russia is poking The West everywhere and finding mush where they should be finding steel.
In the USA, Fox News has a built in audience of mush brains which putin and the Kremlin have molded into a crowd who distrust American institutions, American elections and the rule of law, the basis of FASCISM. Putin has trained these Americans to use violence to get what they want politically and former prez 45 to corrupt and control the judiciary in order to consolidate an authoritarian model.
This is fascism 101.

The general speaks wisdom. Why are our leaders so weak
I grew up in an age of peace. The soldiers of ww2 were mostly dead, and the war was presented in comic-like movies where heroes don't get a single scratch. We have totally forgotten what war is.
Because they are waiting for people like you to volunteer
Profits to the military industrial complex, who hold the polyticians by their private parts.
Our leaders represent an amalgamation of interests, and the cruel fact is soaring rhetoric can get them votes, but that doesn't override the real security and economic interests. As you see the reactive nature of Washington there is no plan for Ukrainian victory. The simplest explanation is Ukraine is being used as a proxy to weaken Russia.
They believe putler to be psychotic and may just use a nuke. They're doing everything the can to escalate slowly and prevent that.
this retired general is talking a whole load of solid sense .
Really? There are hypersonic missiles on their way to Cuba that are going to be able to take out any base on the eastern US, so when Russia drops a tactical hammer, you then have to decide how to explain to the American people that we need to trade bases and cities for Ukraine. Russia is serious.
You know what? Cuba will have been down this path before and guess what....? Read your history books. The saying 'nothing lasts forever, not even one man's aggression against another and as with a certain leader who showed his aggression against others, there is a finality to all our actions and putin WITH his followers are going to be ridiculed and the finger pointing starts when whatever happens, happens. I have the same opinion as you - greetings from Germany.
Well said, Gen. Breedlove. I wish the Biden Administration would listen to you and Gen. Hodges. Unfortunately, Biden is being advised by Jake Sullivan, who does not have the military experience that the Generals have. Sad.
This cowardly hyper-cautious behavior is normal for the Democrat Party who have always been gutless and normally I would say the Republicans would easily resolve the problem but the Republican Party has been hijacked by Trump and his moronic MAGA clan so Europe is going to have to step up next year.
Well said, I completely agree with you.
The important thing is that the policies are changing. Granted the changes are too slow for most who support Ukraine, but the trends have been
towards granting Ukraine better and better kit and more freedom to use that kit to the greatest military advantage. I suspect the most decisive
point of the war where it comes to international support for Ukraine will be this November with the US elections.
Re-elect Biden and the gloves will fully come off. Elect Trump, and the aid will get cut off to force a peace deal favaorable to Russia. Its that simple.
@@TheLAGopher There is always a chance Trump will come around, I have to believe that because it’s looking more and more likely that he will win. Even if he doesn’t the combined EU countries have the same GDP as America and they will very likely step up and give Ukraine the necessary weapons as it becomes more and more evident what a Russian victory would mean for Europe.
Don’t forget the political arena matters also. Western leaders have to worry about elections. Putin does not.
As much as we all might agree from a military and moral perspective, leaders that present a “hard belly” without a successful corresponding political message is going to potentially lose to a party/candidate that will actively help Putin.
For example, the US has a long history of isolationist movements and Biden’s opposition is steeped in this tradition. The US hasn’t been attacked, so it is much more difficult to unify.
The US is on the verge of being controlled by a Putin-style autocrat. Trump has said he would purge the military commanders (along with the rest of the civil service) and order the military to be deployed domestically. To do that, he would have to recall troops from around the world.
Given those stakes I’m sure you can understand caution…especially when Biden’s campaign is looking pretty good at the moment.
Ten years ago Australia asked NATO countries for support for foreign peace keeping troops in Ukraine. No country stepped up. Two years ago, Australia was alone in allowing Ukraine to use donated weapons and munitions wherever it wanted.
There’s an intellectual deficit in NATO that can’t comprehend outcomes until they’re blindingly obvious. It’s taken 500000 deaths and 5000000 refugees for NATO to respond in a decisive way. So the question is, what changes are needed for NATO to be a force that can react before a crisis, rather than after a crisis, because it f the Australians can see the inevitable before others can, then there is a chronic lack of fortitude, resolve and intelligence in Europe.
I have come to loathe the diplomatic/academic careerists. The experts have been wrong so many times.

Very good interview. I agree that the Western governments have allowed the war in Ukraine to become some 'problem' that is going on beyond our horizon. Actually, it is kind of questionable moral ground to have them fight our war, just giving them enough weapons to not lose the war, whilst they are putting the dead military, men, women and children while we bask in the bright sun of our coveted liberties. Sometimes I just feel ashamed that our leaders are using Ukraine and its people as a shield for our relatively cheaply bought safety, while this may also prove to be a just a false sense of safety.

They're not angry hurting suffering enough YET history of being submissive😢
Casualties numbers include more than deaths. They include dead, wounded, illness, desertion, etc. Death rates are a lot lower and large swaths of Russian troops include mercenaries and prisoners. Further, many of the sources of these totals are very clearly biased towards Ukraine. I’m no fan of Russia and want them to lose, but headline numbers like these are thrown out there more for propaganda purposes.
In Bashkorstostan, a prominent government critique wants conscription to stop "we have no beef with Ukraine". He is now in jail.
You need to understand the following: The Russian government does not care because they are racists and most soldiers come from the Turkic and Asian republics. See Kadhyrov's Tchetchenes. There is little conscription in Russia, and most of it comes from the countryside, far from the big urban centres (Moscow, St Petersbourg etc). My ex (I was living in Eastern Europe, 1976/1977) was conscripted in Afghanistan. His experience was awful. Some Russian soldiers died, not in battle, but through sheer incompetence.

Well, I would ask the same question asked of George Herbert Walker Bush in the first Iraq war: What wool you do if you win? Better minds then realized that a weak Sadam was better than no Sadam. Veterans came back with stories. History has proven upsetting the apple cart unleashed chaos that still has the potential to unleash WWIII. It is very hard to keep a lid on it; but I would say that the reason that ‘the decision has not been made’ is that the political leaders know (or at least think) that the American people would not accept it. It took Pearl Harbor to bring America into WWII, it will take a similar existential threat to support the kind of decision General Breedlove advocates, in my opinion.
You are correct, in my opinion. US leaders and EU leaders cynically are using the people of Ukraine to badly damage the Russian army. They hope that it may take Russia ten years to reconstitute and train its best units. That makes Western leaders feel good.

Putin has said he's fighting NATO and the west. We need to let Ukraine then use the NATO arsenal or it makes NATO look very 1980s. We are at war without the troops. We have a slim window of opportunity before we have to put weapons and people out there.
I think most people are laughing at the Rushn' military. They're a bit of a joke to most people
NATO doesn't have an arsenal. No NATO aid has been given to Ukraine. ALL aid to Ukraine has been on a country-to-country basis. The important distinction is that if you call this "NATO aid" then one could wonder what would happen if, say, Trump disbands NATO. If it's country-to-country aid, then it is clear that disbanding NATO has no effect--and may even INCREASE the bilateral aid.
Thank you General Breedlove for having the courage to share your opinion on the Ukraine war very insightful. I was a child when my father was stationed at SHAPE Belgium and know the importance of NATO. However it is only as good as it’s leadership. I pray to God they know what the stakes are that we are dealing with.
Brilliant interview, thank you Sir.
I think Hodges and Breedlove should be coerced to return to public service in some capacity.
Perhaps they’d prefer to enjoy their retirement !!!!
Excellent!
The end of this video brought me to tears because it's true . We live in freedom and safety when others only a few hundreds miles away die for all the reasons he stated . Powerful and amazing interview
YOU AND HODGES ARE THE BEST
Gloves are off good about time
I didn't realize Louie C.K. was an international policy expert 😅
bro I like searched for this comment, I clicked on the video because I thought Louie C.K. is gonna talk about the war xD
Does anyone else get the impression that these rules of engagement (political limitations to targets) are a lot like those we used in Vietnam ...?
And that went well
Fascinating and insightful interview. Bravo!!
"War is fought by the children of the rich so that the children of the poor & enjoy the freedom bought & paid for by the precious blood they shed for their freedom" Jamie Dimon, CEO J.P Morgan.
Frankly speaking cowardness makes them decide not to use their weapons in attacking directly in Russia Land !!!
They were demoralized by Putin's intimidation words !!!
Kate, this interview was outstanding!
Very interesting, very good interview, totally clear outlook on what is and what can and possibly will happen
