  • "There's a certain amount of frustration in what we see in what Russia is doing with its troops. It's throwing manpower away."
Russia's increasing loses show the Kremlin's desperation as they fail to move the frontline ahead of US weapons arrival, Gen. Philip Breedlove tells Kate Gerbeau on Frontline.

The important thing is that the policies are changing. Granted the changes are too slow for most who support Ukraine, but the trends have been
towards granting Ukraine better and better kit and more freedom to use that kit to the greatest military advantage. I suspect the most decisive
point of the war where it comes to international support for Ukraine will be this November with the US elections.
Re-elect Biden and the gloves will fully come off. Elect Trump, and the aid will get cut off to force a peace deal favaorable to Russia. Its that simple.

Don’t forget the political arena matters also. Western leaders have to worry about elections. Putin does not.
As much as we all might agree from a military and moral perspective, leaders that present a “hard belly” without a successful corresponding political message is going to potentially lose to a party/candidate that will actively help Putin.
For example, the US has a long history of isolationist movements and Biden’s opposition is steeped in this tradition. The US hasn’t been attacked, so it is much more difficult to unify.
The US is on the verge of being controlled by a Putin-style autocrat. Trump has said he would purge the military commanders (along with the rest of the civil service) and order the military to be deployed domestically. To do that, he would have to recall troops from around the world.
Given those stakes I’m sure you can understand caution…especially when Biden’s campaign is looking pretty good at the moment.

Ten years ago Australia asked NATO countries for support for foreign peace keeping troops in Ukraine. No country stepped up. Two years ago, Australia was alone in allowing Ukraine to use donated weapons and munitions wherever it wanted.
There’s an intellectual deficit in NATO that can’t comprehend outcomes until they’re blindingly obvious. It’s taken 500000 deaths and 5000000 refugees for NATO to respond in a decisive way. So the question is, what changes are needed for NATO to be a force that can react before a crisis, rather than after a crisis, because it f the Australians can see the inevitable before others can, then there is a chronic lack of fortitude, resolve and intelligence in Europe.

Actually, it is kind of questionable moral ground to have them fight our war, just giving them enough weapons to not lose the war, whilst they are putting the dead military, men, women and children while we bask in the bright sun of our coveted liberties. They include dead, wounded, illness, desertion, etc. Death rates are a lot lower and large swaths of Russian troops include mercenaries and prisoners. Further, many of the sources of these totals are very clearly biased towards Ukraine. I’m no fan of Russia and want them to lose, but headline numbers like these are thrown out there more for propaganda purposes.

In Bashkorstostan, a prominent government critique wants conscription to stop "we have no beef with Ukraine". He is now in jail.
You need to understand the following: The Russian government does not care because they are racists and most soldiers come from the Turkic and Asian republics. See Kadhyrov's Tchetchenes. There is little conscription in Russia, and most of it comes from the countryside, far from the big urban centres (Moscow, St Petersbourg etc). My ex (I was living in Eastern Europe, 1976/1977) was conscripted in Afghanistan. His experience was awful. Some Russian soldiers died, not in battle, but through sheer incompetence.

History has proven upsetting the apple cart unleashed chaos that still has the potential to unleash WWIII. It is very hard to keep a lid on it; but I would say that the reason that ‘the decision has not been made’ is that the political leaders know (or at least think) that the American people would not accept it. Everybody needs to start caring! Ukraine is a free, sovereign, democratic nation. The people of Ukraine and their language and culture need to be preserved. They need to be free of Russia, whatever that takes. This "caution" from the west needs to stop. We all need to show strength and step p.

Joe Biden and Jake Sullivan’s caution is only emboldening putin. He will become more hydra-like in his approach to destroying Western intelligence interests in the United States and Europe. Look out for suspicious fires and explosions at sensitive facilities in remote locations.

Joe Biden isnt the problem. Its the GOP who at every turn attempt to block aid to Ukraine, and support the fascists in the Kremlin.

Putin has said he's fighting NATO and the west. We need to let Ukraine then use the NATO arsenal or it makes NATO look very 1980s. We are at war without the troops. We have a slim window of opportunity before we have to put weapons and people out there.

NATO doesn't have an arsenal. No NATO aid has been given to Ukraine. ALL aid to Ukraine has been on a country-to-country basis. The important distinction is that if you call this "NATO aid" then one could wonder what would happen if, say, Trump disbands NATO. If it's country-to-country aid, then it is clear that disbanding NATO has no effect--and may even INCREASE the bilateral aid.

Thank you General Breedlove for having the courage to share your opinion on the Ukraine war very insightful. I was a child when my father was stationed at SHAPE Belgium and know the importance of NATO. However it is only as good as it’s leadership. I pray to God they know what the stakes are that we are dealing with.
