I saw someone else on a first and last video say to do the first episode, then whatever the best rated episode of the series is - maybe that’s the season 1 finale, or just some random episode halfway through a random season - and then the final episode of the series. It would add just a little extra chaos, since who knows what that middle episode would end up being, and also giving an idea of what the show looks like at its peak. A lot of the time neither the pilot nor the finale is a good representation of the show as a whole, so the best episode might balance the scales a bit, while also probably being extra confusing. It’d also be kinda funny to see just how long the show went on after its peak.

i kind of agree with the first and last thing, for some shows it’s funny but other shows - like long running shows like once upon a time, the last season is sometimes a completely different storyline, like season 7 of once upon a time was almost like a different show in a way, so then the first and last thing kind of falls flat
yea same with The 100 or The Vampire Diaries. The 100 is straight up a completely different show each season, just with the same characters. The last season of both TVD and the 100 are also both agreed upon by fans to be worse than the rest of the shows.

It’s still more work, but way less than doing a first and last for every single season. If he did it that way he would still get the whole crazy comparison of where the story started vs where it ended up, but he’d also have slightly more context so he could better understand how much the shows change over time.
I think for first and last, when the show is less serious like New Girl or Glee, it's easier to watch a literal first and last episode video because the plot is more or less consistent throughout the show because the plot isn't always the focus. But for shows like The Flash or Supernatural, where plot lines are often wrapped up within a season or so, watching the first and last episode literally causes a large disconnect because the plots are nowhere near connected anymore

For first and last: I think it’s more about what type of show it is. Shows like American horror story, Bridgerton and ouat have each season being a full show. Therefore the seasons don’t connect as much. However shows like pll, tvd and teen wolf have a set cast that doesn’t change to much and therefore the original format works better. If there is anyway to be able to tell what type of show it will be before making an episode of first and last, it can then be catered to either one season or the entire show.
If he does a first and last for the first season, then the people in the comments who have watched the show can advise if there's continuity between seasons or if they're more like isolated arcs. For shows with isolated arcs, he could do a first and last of each season, and for the other ones, maybe a follow up video reacting to the best/worst rated episode of the whole show + the series finale. I think it could work.

I think the perfect compromise for the first and last episodes is to choose the most middle season, and watch the finale of that season as well. That way you still have the craziness of jumping far in the story, but also have some added context and potential for “where tf did this character go” when watching the finale

I was actually about to suggest the same thing about you doing the first and last episodes of each season for tv shows the last time, especially complex omes like Supernatural and OUAT. It would he much more fun and there would be so many more jokes, but sometimes first and last of a series work, maybe if it's a shorter, less complex or Netflix series but I also understand just how much time it would take.

Instead of doing first and last of each season of supernatural, you could do first and last in five season blocks (i.e. seasons 1-5, 6-10, 11-15) because the show's original story was only supposed to be the first five seasons anyway
I have always thought the idea of doing First/Last of each season was a way better approach to really show how the show evolves over its entirety; but realistically its only plausible for a show with 4-5 seasons max. That way he s only watching 8-10 episodes. For shows like Supernatural, UOAT, ect. I think it would be great to react to the Pilot, each season finale, then the series finale… every show’s season finale already does a recap intro; and mid-season first episodes really just establish a storyline… i think it would be much more fun for Dylan to be thrown into peak drama each time and make guesses of the finale based off the previous finale or the recap intro. ❤ You Dylan

You've done the first and last for bridgerton seasons and I've really like that. Because Bridgerton are such closed stories season by season. I think if the show has +4 or 5 seasons it makes sense for the first and last overal. BUT if its less maybe more season by season. Or. Just like with bridgerton, do one video of the season and then see how it performs, and if it does well then continue with the next, and if not move on. Because knowing you do them makes life wonderful and makes me anticipate future videos. Like, knowing you've done the other bridgerton seasons keeps me excited for how I hope you do the 3rd season thats done now.

As someone who became a troublemaker through first and last this is my honest suggestion: make it a series of first and last for one show, that way you can cover shows that are still running and ones that are done. Ie: first and last of Supernatural season 1 would be one video season 2 another etc. I think this would be cool bc it would be a way to make lots of related content and pull people interested in those shows into your channel. It also allows for you to do things like 1st and last of shows that only have one season/are recent to hop onto things that are popular. Not to mention I would love to see you connect the first episode and the last together to see if the first episode felt like it set up that story arc well. (I think for sitcoms it doesn't really matter) I also feel like this format would allow you to get more of the creation process commentary that we see in beer and a movie without as much time

I actually love first and last. Your glee video is great, for example, bc the show was already so insane, and then skipping the six seasons and all the drama and insensitive/problematic plot lines and dialogues, and then getting to their happy ending was actually hilarious

I think the perfect compromise for the first and last episodes is to choose the most middle season, and watch the finale of that season as well. That way you still have the craziness of jumping far in the story, but also have some added context and potential for “where tf did this character go” when watching the finale

I know you can't really compare since seasons of bridgerton are almost like separated mini-shows, but it really allowed for closure, like op said ! I had the same feeling with your Vampire Diaries (although the fact that you thought nobody died ended up being really comical) and OUAT videos, so much missed potential, when the videos were already great ! At least watching A season finale before the series finale would be wayyy funnier

Thank you for the laughs today, I really needed it after a bit of a bad day ❤. I was actually about to suggest the same thing about you doing the first and last episodes of each season for tv shows the last time, especially complex omes like Supernatural and OUAT. It would he much more fun and there would be so many more jokes, but sometimes first and last of a series work, maybe if it's a shorter, less complex or Netflix series but I also understand just how much time it would take.
I love that Dylan is so open to feedback and always tries to include troublemakers in his content creation process. It's genuinely super refreshing and as a result he has built such a strong community here! (:

Instead of doing first and last of each season of supernatural, you could do first and last in five season blocks (i.e. seasons 1-5, 6-10, 11-15) because the show's original story was only supposed to be the first five seasons anyway
I have always thought the idea of doing First/Last of each season was a way better approach to really show how the show evolves over its entirety; but realistically its only plausible for a show with 4-5 seasons max. That way he s only watching 8-10 episodes.
For shows like Supernatural, UOAT, ect. I think it would be great to react to the Pilot, each season finale, then the series finale… every show’s season finale already does a recap intro; and mid-season first episodes really just establish a storyline… i think it would be much more fun for Dylan to be thrown into peak drama each time and make guesses of the finale based off the previous finale or the recap intro.

You've done the first and last for bridgerton seasons and I've really like that. Because Bridgerton are such closed stories season by season. I think if the show has +4 or 5 seasons it makes sense for the first and last overal. BUT if its less maybe more season by season. Or. Just like with bridgerton, do one video of the season and then see how it performs, and if it does well then continue with the next, and if not move on. Because knowing you do them makes life wonderful and makes me anticipate future videos. Like, knowing you've done the other bridgerton seasons keeps me excited for how I hope you do the 3rd season thats done now.
Yes I totally agree! Each first and last should be done one season at a time. And it would feel like we’re taking the journey through the show with him. Plus like you said he could see how much engagement the videos will have as he uploads. Rather than spending months on the whole series just for it to flop.

As someone who became a troublemaker through first and last this is my honest suggestion: make it a series of first and last for one show, that way you can cover shows that are still running and ones that are done. Ie: first and last of Supernatural season 1 would be one video season 2 another etc. I think this would be cool bc it would be a way to make lots of related content and pull people interested in those shows into your channel. It also allows for you to do things like 1st and last of shows that only have one season/are recent to hop onto things that are popular. Not to mention I would love to see you connect the first episode and the last together to see if the first episode felt like it set up that story arc well. (I think for sitcoms it doesn't really matter) I also feel like this format would allow you to get more of the creation process commentary that we see in beer and a movie without as much time
