Dylan really isnt more negative and joyless person than anyone else. He picks up inconsistencies, bad plots and cinematography bc he quite literally studied it and worked the industry unlike many other TH-cam reactors, so I always enjoy his critiques

Yes… his jokes are corny. BUT we love them, and it’s unfair not to also mention that his commentary about the film making is the most interesting thing! I love hearing about editing, camera work and acting from a (totally real) film school graduate. He’s got so much substance! Edited the mistake I made lol, thanks to the comment making me aware of it XD
for real his movie commentaries are actually kind of educational lol cause he talks about camera work and stuff and then i find myself thinking about all these things too when watching movies. and i'm able to appreciate them more🙏🏻🙏🏻

Some people automatically translate any criticism of the little mermaid remake into “black mermaid bad”. They’re so defensive about it that It bypasses logical thought; it’s a knee jerk reaction.
I personally loved it and it was enjoyable for a lot of people. Personally i find the general distaste of it tiring. And even if it was just for toddlers, it still had a positive impact. No hate towards you, just tired of people acting like no one can enjoy it just cause they didnt (not saying thats your intention). However i still really enjoyed dylans commentary and still agreed with a lot he said.

I wouldn’t consider any of the critique to be on the lack of social commentary or politics regarding the reaction to the film. Halle (and TLM fans) have been through hell behind this movie so a lot of fans are more “sensitive” (for lack of a better term) when it comes to commentary on this film. Seeing even just the poster of this movie on social media can trigger a flight or fight response because of everything that has happened. We WANT this movie and the discourse around it to be free of social commentary but we haven’t been given that luxury, this situation is just different compared to other movies
as a fellow scam college film grad & someone that works in the film industry too YOUR COMMENTARIES ARE SO GOOD i love hearing what you have to say about the shots when 99% of other people are just talking about the controversy and pop culture surrounding a film

For me it's the way people keep expecting some deeper analysis of Dylan's videos when he's said REPEATEDLY ACROSS ALL OF HIS CHANNELS that his goal is to make content that let's people escape from real life for a bit and just have a good time. Like y'all he's aware there's fucked up stuff in the world, we all do. We're just here for some laughs and, if we're lucky, some of that scam college film knowledge about what makes certain movies work vs. others. I won't sit here and act like he hasn't made mistakes, but nothing worthy of being cancelled as relentlessly as he is omg, like just don't watch if you don't find him funny. (Also Dylan please don't make me regret these words with the upcoming Barbie commentary. 😭)

I am basing this aasumption purely off the comments when I watched reactions to the live action Little Mermaid but generally I got the vibe that Halle Bailey has quite the loyal fanbase (and rightly so she seems awesome) so I imagine if you weren't absolutely overjoyed by the movie there was gonna be more (possibly younger) people, maybe less familiar with your content, with some strong defensive feelings about that!
