Hi, love the detailed review there. From what I can recall, the sweetness of a sherry cask finish whisky is somewhat close to cognac, though cognac has a lot other different notes, and is a lot spicier than sherry cask whisky (apple and oranges I know, must be just in my head). Unfortunatelly, I had never had anything sherry finish other than Macallan 12, and I hope to try other more in the future! In the past, I had tried "Teacher highland cream", also a no age statement yet it was a blended whisky, where it was advertised as high peated whisky, and boy was I kind of disappointed, the peated smoky flavor and notes are in there for sure, but the whisky tasted somewhat bright and thin(?) Maybe they used a lot of grain, or didn't go through enough aging? I dont know. Anyway, In your opinion, is this budget friendly single malt sherry cask finish whisky anywhere close to a Macallan 12, or is it at least on par with any single malt whisky that has age statement? And what would you recommend more, this or the port cask finish?
"For every day drink."
