Excellent channel. Brings back some memories. I’m not from Tipton, but I used to play football for Brew & Baker back in the 80’s. I knew the landlord, Derek, who poached a load of us from over Oldbury/Whiteheath way to play for the pub. Crazy and brilliant days. A few years later I married a Tipton lass and used many of the local pubs over the years. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much that really means a lot and so glad you enjoy the channel thank you for sharing your memories always love to hear about great times all the best 👍😁
These videos are so interesting. When I lived on foxyards, Tipton in the 1970s Tipton was quite a run down and rough town but most of it now looks really nice.
Some good pic’s and comparisons. I remember going over the railway crossing in Princes End every Saturday morning on the way to my Nan’s by Laburnum Road. The first house in Moat Road used to be a small sweet shop. Sherbet Fountains a wine gums were a favourite
Great video bringing back good memories , i noticed you didnt mention the old seedhouses which stood on the opposite corner to the tilted barrel and just down the road stood the old red lion but yes a very interesting walk down memory lane
Thank you very much I'm planning more videos at some point soon I should be covering seed house's and the red Lion along with lots of other places it's great to have memories thanks for watching 👍
I used to go to the baptist church in New Hall St. in the 1950s and the marlhole was behind it. Of course the temptation to explore was too great. There was a dirt track from New Hall St. to St. John's St where I used to play. To the right, behind the houses and shops in Tibbington Terrace was the remains of a very large house called Tibbington House, you could make out the garden layout and the remaining hedges. Further on you passed the marlhole on the left. The hole was dug to extract the clay used to make Staffordshire blue bricks which were used to build canals and, more so, the railways. I believe that it was owned by the Howl family who later started Lee Howl, the factory by Owen St. railway station where I worked for many years until it closed in 1984. When the marlhole was being filled in I saw lots of tanker lorries discharging chemical waste into the hole. Usually on Sundays funnily enough!
Thank you so much so many great memories of the lagoon great pub I will be covering the Shepard's cottage in a later video also a great pub sadly gone thanks for watching 👍
Another great Video. We went to high Street looking for 91. Aaron Manby court is now there. Do you have any pictures of what was there before? Or houses with stables behind the shops? Please. Thanks we are on an ancestral trail.
Thank you very much I do believe there was house's there at one point you could try the archives in Wolverhampton they usually cover all the West Midlands hope this helps 👍
It's still there but they was going to knock it down a few years ago but it's now called summer hill primary school which is great they have preserved some history in Tipton thanks for watching 👍
The Gospel Oak known locally as Mother Shipton's or Shippeys. I used it around 1979 when Big H kept it (I worked at Pylon Service Station next door). A proper down to earth honest pub for working blokes. I remember one night we piled into the bar and there was a somewhat posh woman reading. Aware that the place was full of growlers she looked up from her book and asked if they objected to a woman being in their bar. Ooh no luv, you'm alright the growlers replied.
Some of my family originated from Princes End, there was so much knocked down in the 60s and early 70s. The north side of Princes End High Street and Wednesbury Oak Road were in the urban district of Coseley until 1966 and never came under the old Tipton council. The Gospel Oak was a ovely old pub, but Marston's made it look too modern inside
I think Princes end seems to look like one of those places what looks the same but changed so much if that makes sense I lived there for 21 years great memories though 👍
Wish we kept the pub now and not moved out 10 years my childhood hear.. I loved this pub so much everyone was loved and looked after. No police nothing if anything after hour the police would have a drink threw back door lol. We also had the barrel. Great pubs gone we would rebuild the lagoon if we could
Enjoyed these videos. Not my area but had friends in college that lived that way and we used to drink in Shippy's and the Collier. A couple of them lived on Farmer Way (just behind where you're standing when you film Shippy's). I guess their estate was built in the 80's. Do you know what was there before it was built? Never went in The Lagoon. The reputation was fearsone though!
The land were farmer way is now was mainly just a rough looking field with a small brook it was known as private land there was a large rock there known to locals as the elephants head because of how it was shaped hope this helps thanks for watching 👍
The George and dragon had a rear garden, there, under a tree was a grave with gravestone. Did that get reinterred when they redeveloped? Laws garage, old man law and his daughter both in brown cowgowns. Opposite was kendricks coaches, My work brings me into contact with a guy who worked with old man kendricks, by all accounts a lovely man. Further up, the angle ring. It used to be run by Tipton urban district council in south Staffordshire, by local people. The some clever sod invented Sandwell, down hill ever since.

God the Vic. We used to live in summerhill road & we used to get our sweets from the shop in that pub, we used to see "cowboys" shooting their guns but thinking about ut they were probably hells angels 😂
I lived there in the late 80’s. Looks like it’s had a bit of work done since then. I remember The Lagoon, it was my local. Are the racist crew still there?

That area really does hold great memories I remember playing football on there with my mate's the goal posts are still standing strong 👍
Interesting post, thank you. Would love to have seen the remains of Tibbington House.
Great video. I was brought up in the lagoon. Was hoping to see the shepards cottage I remember my mom working there

Thanks Carl. Very interesting. Nice to see the Gospel Oak or Shippys is still standing
Your very welcome it's great to know the pub is still popular thanks for watching 👍
Brilliant, I hope there is a part 3, with Gospel Oak Road, Ocker Hill and Toll End 😍
There is definitely plans for a part 3 Ocker hill and more will be covered at some point coming very soon 👍

Growing up in Tipton loved los garden Chinese
Great days 👍
So many old pubs, closed, and burned down then turned into houses. Mmm
The Crooked House springs to mind.
That's very true it's sad to think about the crooked house may be rebuilt one day fingers crossed 🤞
Good memorys going in there with my dad growing up
Great times and memories forever 👍
Thanks mate
No worries

Friday night in the lagoon pub then jump on the last 245 bus up to Caesar's Dudley, thanks for the video
Your very welcome great days 👍
The bus at Princes End looks like BMMO D9 fleet number 5349, one of Hartshill garages best. The heaters worked on that one!
Forgot to say the 245 bus was Wednesbury to Stourbridge via Dudley and Brierley Hill.
Born on East road, moved to the corner of West road and St. Marks. four generations of my family have drunk in shippys
It's a great place shippys I went for a meal recently really enjoyed it's a great place 👍

I used to visit Tipton twice a year as a showman with my Noah’s Ark and dodgems. Nice little Town good memories, I have retired now.
Fair play to you that really sounds like good fun glad you enjoyed Tipton happy times and a very happy retirement 👍

Is diabolical, who the hell was running tipton council planning
For the last thirty years?
It really does make no sense who plans things in town centres and other places the black horse was a great building completely ruined now
It used to be run by Tipton urban district council in south Staffordshire, by local people. The some clever sod invented Sandwell, down hill ever since.
Very true Tipton needs it's own council again and say goodbye to sandwell 👍
Nice video to watch. Try to switch to local dialect to gi the footage more flavour of the past while commentin on't.
Hi mate my dad went to the lagoon and the dragon

Its mainly pubs, then they wonder why UK has a drinking issue.
If I can help
With Tipton history give me a yell
Great thank you 👍
