I was born in horsely heath in 66 behind the bar , wetted head and named before mom was helped up to bed , would love a look around the old stamping grounds , cheers for the series
@@Wench64 it is very sad how work places have gone so much industry all sadly disappeared I will cover more of them in the next Tipton Past and Present video 👍
@@johndutfield7382 I will be covering hale and hale in a future video along with other parts of industry hale and hale mainly came under Dudley port Tipton so saving that for a video of that area 👍
My brother was 3rd generation who worked at horseley piggott, my brother in law also worked there and they said they would go back in a heartbeat, it was a great place to work for, rolls Royce bought them then closed, even though they still had a full order book, I think they just wanted the land to sell, now it's crap houses we need more industry o our doorstep
I went to Alex as did all my brothers, had a teacher at park Lane for English that taught my mom, teachers used stay at places for longer, sorry but Tipton is not the same now with all the new houses, when did everyone leave Alex, I left 1981 so I old now, but it was a good time when I was there, did any of you go to great bridge school
@@Wench64 I went to Alex and my brother did as well I agree at school it was very good times Tipton is very different now I don't really see any of my old mates maybe they have moved on 👍
The smoke from Triplex was very bad on occasions, had weight to it and a nasty smell that bad you could taste it. Made outdoor PE lessons at the Alex unbearable sometimes as you couldnt breath or see the ball due to the smoke.
@@dudleyblokerave that's very true I remember that at Alex and just seeing the smoke all day and then thinking how do they get away with it thanks for watching 👍
@@dwarfshortage244 The normal smoke was pretty bad when the wind was wrong but every 3-4 months they would do something that created the dark green/brown smoke that always sunk to the ground and hung about, the smell was awful, like a mix of sulphur and burning fat. Felt like someone was squeezing your lungs from the inside and used to burn your eyes. Can also remember the brook behind the Alex used to have many vivid colours some days, blue, black, pink and many shades of bright green. Might go and jump the brook for old times sake!
