Hey Dav, the '100 flower' is translated dorectly from their Chinese names. English is a language that usually only represent what their literal means. In Chinese, hundred can be the number 100 or 'many', while flower can be the actual flower or 'patterns', so the 100 flowers snakes are actually 'many/busy patterned snake'. Oh by the way, guy if you are interested in this species, check out our book 'the Asian ratsnakes and kind of greater China', I am one of the translation guy for this book. I hope advertising here is allowed😂
I was a vendor at Daytona some 15 years ago, it’s heckin’ weird to see that building again. Thanks, Dave! Grampa’s Balls is a winner. I found my purple 2006 Daytona RBE T-shirt in the garage last week, good times.
What a fun video ❤️❤️ That little albino looking baby turtle, soooo freaking cute!!!! “Grampa’s Balls- Don’t Google it!”, made me choke on my water 🤣🤣 And the 100 Flower rat snake butt whipping your face several times, what a character 😆😆 Awesome vid. It made my day ❣️❣️
I am proud to have been the president of the Central Florida Herp Society from 1988-2000 when we came up with this. Wayne Hill did an amazing job. We were supposed to host the IHG that year, but when they found out about the expo, they went elsewhere. I wonder where they are now.
Dav whenever you get down to Puerto Rico I really hope you get the chance to check out the western parts of the island. The Puerto Rican boa is an extremely rare animal on the island now, thanks to Iguana’s and other invasive species, but it sounded like such a cool animal when I read about it on a trail sign. They apparently will hang from stalactites at cave entrances and catch bats out of the air as they pass by, totally incredible.
I've never been so excited to be so early to a video, ever. I watched a smaller channel (Cloud Colubrids) converge on the event, and I'm stoked to see it from your POV as well!
I'm not sure but if I had to guess how the 100 flower snake got that name it would be because of the colorful blotchy pattern on it's body a lot of those look like rounded diamonds or like four leaf clovers and those maybe the "flowers" and because there are a ton of them they just say 100. Thanks for showing us this Daytona show I will try and attend the 2022 one 👍🏼
Was hoping you would put out a daytona video so happy for this. Woo-hoo. That pied that bob showed wow beautiful. Ugh that spot nose dg is gorgeoussssss too. Damnit I want another snake so bad.
Hey dav i do have a question my buddy is making his first boa enclosure hes gonna go with a red tail i think but hes wondering whats best a light or a heat mat and what to put as the floor for a heat mat?... Sorry your a expert id fifured id ask.
That BP name is awesome!! I love that Katheryn was highlighted. She is SO nice!! It was great to see you again. Looking forward to seeing you when IguanaLand opens. 😊
I don’t know if anyone commented yet about the 100 Flowers snake, but as soon as I heard that it’s range includes China, I had an idea as to where the name came from. In China’s full Red China days, Mao tried to look good by expanding freedom of thought and what not. This process became known as the Hundred Flowers Campaign, but ended when the allowed speech became too much criticism of communism.
Hundred Flower Ratsnakes are moderatley large, surprisingly fast and not likely to be happy to see you, in my experience. I like bitey snakes to some degree, and I still want them, biut be aware they are nothing like a corn snake in temperament. I’m sure that multiple generations of captive breeding will calm them down a touch, but they are, generally speaking, highly reactive animals.
That axanthic, lilly white crestie...wow...just WOW! So many gorgeous animals. I can't make the NARBC Tinley this October sadly but am planning to go to the one next March. Hoping to get a hognose 😁 TikisGeckos is awesome. Just got a pink tongue skink from them a few months back and they are always there for me when I have a question 💚🐍🦎💚
Love it! What a great group of reptiles to see! Several I hadn't seen/heard of before. Bonus I just recently bought my male Emerald Swift from Tiki's Geckos! If it wasn't for this channel I wouldn't have known about them. Great place to work with, fantastic customer service! Highly recommend them!
I got my first two uromastyx from Tikis Geckos. They had great customer service and my uromastyx came healthy, parasite free, and they didn't look sickly like wild Caught uromastyx often do. Definitely recommend.
I’ve just spent thousands of pounds in my head, I’m like I want one of those and those lol. Loved this video, seeing a great collection of reptiles. I’d now love to go to something like this, don’t think Bonnie Scotland would do these so a nice Sunny holiday it would have to be .
I'm in the UK too and have pondered attending a reptile expo, so I googled it. There do seem to be some semi-regular expos at Doncaster, of all places, though I've no idea how big they are. Apparently the really big annual European one is in Hamburg iirc, so not as far as the US, but not exactly local either.
@@navsingh5383 I was surprised when I looked it up to find that there actually weren't any in London or Birmingham. The only ones I could find were the ones in Doncaster, but maybe I missed something?
Maybe the hundred flower snake is called that because the markings/spots look sort of like flowers. The Chinese and other Asian cultures can be very poetic when naming things, an example would be golden coins, which is just slices of carrot. Loved the turtle you gave the award, it looks golden it's so rich in color. Great tour, Thank you for the upload.
Sweet nice vid. Love the 100 flower on me bucket list. I read that its like they have 100 flower patterns on them.... From a Korean translation... Gotta find that article now. Beautiful red foot! Did you get anything?? Rattle ON! And yes can always use More Cow Bell!!!!!
This looks like such an amazing expo! This makes me so excited to get my own piece of land in a few years and build a reptile shed and be able to start some more breeding projects! Will you be going to HERPs Conroe? It will be my first Texas show ( I just moved here from Louisiana ) and I am so excited for it!
Wasn't it in 93 that they discovered the Blood line in the WC Boas? I still want to get back into Darts and Uroplatus phantasticus. Grampa's Balls is the best name for a reptile company. I believe the 100 flower snake gets its name is from the pattern, they look like abstract flowers. they have the petals on the out side of the blotches and in the middle its more broken up with darker or lighter spots in it like the middle of a flower.
Wow $30k for a crested gecko!? Crazy but he is a handsome guy! I've got a Leachie that I've heard I could get $20k for I wouldn't let my guy go either!😁 Great video Dav!!! Thanks!👍
A suggestion for the butt face snakes alternate name of one hundred flower snake origin would be that their pattern looks like flowers, pixilated flowers. Love the videos as always best wishes from London UK
I saw you outside the Building Dav, it was great meeting you. I was there looking for odd Colubrid, and I came out with a Licorice Black Ratsnake :) So I can't say I'm upset about that
100 flower snakes: I think it's their body patterns that gives them their name. I mean, **look** at it. They look vaguely like flowers in shape and the whole snake is just **gorgeously** busy . I wonder how bright the colours can get? If you found some individuals with brighter than usual colours--see if the brightness proves out, genetically. That would be fascinating. :-) My favourite snakes tend to be the brightly-coloured/patterned ones, so ball pythons like the Dreamsicle really get to me. Or, even better, the San Francisco Garter snake with all it's blues and reds and yellows. Love the variability of the Eyelash Vipers, or even the Rosy Boas. Coral snake lookalikes are sweet, too and rainbow boas, oh **yeah* !
@@davkaufmansreptileadventures you've honestly inspired me to start conservation work before I was just a kid who loves reptiles now in just a kid who would do anything for those animals

Agree on the 100 flower rat snake. Saw it and thought it was the most impressive there. 100 flower I believe has to do with the patterns on the saddle.
