That is not good enough, nothing good enough. That is just giving bullet to ministry of commerce to file a complain in WTO. If the case win, then good. Bussiness as usual. Not enough because the BEV supply chain is not there in Europe.
And Europe's flagging car industry is going to go under. Europe being protectionist is alright, since they need to ensure their own survival, otherwise there will be no European market. German economy is like 5% car industry and its surrounding environments.
The US meanwhile... they shouldn't just rest in their laurels. A country that keeps pointing out at other markets should not be afforded excuses like the Europe.

Saying that TopGear giving it a 6/10 is their worst review in years shows how biased you are, they've given 5/10 to the Lexus RZ, ORA Funky Cat and Merc GLC Coupe in the last 6 months, and that's just from a quick search on their website. Also, here in Ireland the Seal is €46k RWD long range and €52K AWD(Both are on the road prices inc. Delivery charge), whereas a Model 3 is €50k for the long range and €54k performance and if you want a colour other than white it's an extra €1,300. For me, that makes the Seal good value compared to a Model 3.

In Thailand, BYD is seen as a fine EV company with globally recognized quality that have the capability to challenge Tesla for domestic market sales. However, Tesla commands a higher regard from Thai consumers. They see Tesla as being from the number 1 high-tech country in the world, with unrivaled technology. Does thatmean that Tesla will rule the EV market here? I believe no. BYD can still sell more cars because they are simply much more affordable. At the end of the day, reasonable people will use the higher value, BYD. We're just not acountry dominated by millionaires, although the huge number of Mercedeses and BMWs on the road maysuggest it.

Top Gear is only one publication. Several other reviewers, particularly in Germany, have said the Seal is better (even though the warning chimes are universally hated).
And Top Gear recently also gave the best selling car of all time (Toyota Corolla) a 6 out of 10, which is a significant improvement over some past ratings they had given the car. Top Gear is an entertainment-first publication and ratings have nothing to do with potential for market success.

Here in Brazil a Tesla with similar specs of the Seal just released in the country costs no less than 500.000 BRL against 300.000 for the BYD Seal. Dolphin swallowed the compact electric cars market before the arrival of the Seal and its n.1 electric car sold in the country. According to my research, the BYD Seal (EUR44,900) is about 20% more expensive than the new Tesla Model 3 (EUR37,300) for the basic model. The Seal is certainly not a fraction of the cost of the equivalent Tesla Model 3 in Europe but may have a price advantage in China. However, I do agree that BYD and other Chinese electric cars are over-priced in Europe and not selling well. So why has Europe started a probe on Chinese electric cars (including BYD) with the intent to add import duties (tariffs)? SAIC (MG) and Geely (Volvo and Polestar) are well priced and are selling well. There are a lot of Chinese manufacturers and they have different strategies. Given that the EU just opened an investigation into "EV "dumping" by China, probably best for BYD to price high until it announces a production plant in Europe. The EU action is all politics, to pressure the Chinese to open up local factories (as Geely has) and to protect the European car industry sales in Europe. Exactly what they did to the Japanese in the 1980s and 1990s.

The market needs many options. I do believe some media outlets and "experts" want to hype up a possible threat to Tesla. The CEO who says and sometimes does things that anger people at the company that has been doing the impossible creates a group that hate them or want to see them stumble. Some will be short-sellers, some are actual competitors, and others have social/political views, but in the end they are all against Tesla.
I am happy to see BYD trying to take on Tesla. Just as I was happy to see the Hyundai Group taking on Tesla. As Musk has said, competition is good and for Musk, ICE is the competition. The most recent update, the Model 3 Plus, was more about taking on Toyota Camry, BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Honda Accord, all while still growing in the insanely competitive Chinese market.
When 2030 rolls around, I see Tesla at the top, but BYD might take the number two slot. I still believe Toyota will fall out of the top five builders in the world. I know many push back on such an idea, because Toyota is so smart or so innovative or something, I do not know what. It took Toyota decades to build their brand loyalty, but over the past ten years, we have seen brand loyalty fading in general. People want the best product and when it comes to EVs, Toyota is way off the mark. I still think their ICE vehicles are not ahead of the pack like they once were. The Toyota company cultural needs a deep review soon or they will fall out of the top five builders by 2030.
Looking forward to see how the first full year of sales goes for the Model 3 Plus. I think it is going to be very successful and that Model Y Plus that is likely coming in the next few months, will make it so the Model Y is the best selling vehicle around the world in 2024. I already believe it will secure the 2023 top seller title.

Coming from "wall street analysts" makes me wonder who these "analysts" are. This sounds a lot like the negative hype the short sellers generate when they don't like a particular company or the founder/CEO as a person. Wall street doesn't like the stories about Elon and maybe he turned Starlink off to hurt Ukraine. Kinda like the stories which never gained much traction about Spacex using all the liquid oxygen so the medical community couldn't get enough to save lives in the hospitals. So long as Tesla makes a high quality product at a reachable price, I could care less about the Chinese EV, because we will never see them in America. When it comes to the stock market, Tesla is much more than just EVs. Analysts don't seem to like that, because it confuses them. When you add in home power systems, Megapacks, batteries, insurance, computers and software, robots etc., they have trouble fortunetelling the future. Lord only knows what would happen if Starlink and the Boring Company got rolled into the mix. I'm rambling now. Need another cuppa coffee.

All reviews favour the Seal over tesla in cosmetic build quality, luxury feel, and mostly favours the Seal in comfort features and ease of use.
Where Seal starts to fall behind is most chinese say the regen in Tesla is far better than the Seal. Efficency Tesla out perform the Seal. Most of the issues stem from cheaper build in motor and chassis. Therefore, extreme driving conditions and temperatures the seal was massively out performed by other local manufacturers and tesla. All reviewers were negative on the Seal for software like safety, autopilot, and auto emergency breaking and handling.

Having said that the Tesla Model 3 is better value for money (especially in Europe) than the BYD Seal, I must address some of the negative comments on the BYD Seal below. On looks, I think both cars look great. As for the interior, I think the quality of the BYD Seal is as good if not better than the Tesla Model 3. With regard to boot/trunk space (an important consideration for any car), Tesla has the advantage. With regard to software, I must disagree to some extent. Tesla software might be more advanced but if its problematic, then it's not so safe. There have been cases in Hong Kong, mainland China, South Korea and in America (hundreds of reported cases) where Tesla electric cars went out of control causing accidents and a number of fatalities. I hope very much Tesla has solved this software problem.

Totally agree with you, although these two cars are very competitive, in terms of specs and technology, BYD does have to undercut its price 10 to 15% to be competitive in any markets. And you’re right, the other manufacturers still hasn’t woken up yet. When I bought my last German car six years ago, I was looking forward to see German cars and Japanese car manufacturers to catch up , but they haven’t done anything and their electric vehicles are still pretty garbage at the moment. It makes a consumer feel cheated and dumb to actually buy one of their cars today. Luk, I like German cars, but when it comes to electric cars they really needs to step up their game to earn consumers interest.
Consumers loyalty will fade away if they don’t treat consumers properly. I need to change my car in the next two years, and it doesn’t look like I would buy another German car. Whether it be BYD, or Tesla, if I’ve tried it, like it, my loyalty will definitely change, and I believe many consumers feel the same

I do not think people have a stigma against Chinese cars. People know MG is Chinese. The reason why MG is getting sales is because is cheap 25k€

You got the compute for full selfdriving and the complete sensor suite with the Tesla model 3, that adds much more value to the car than the price difference to the seal (in China). If Tesla manages to reach level 4/5 autonomy, all the competitors cars, that are not able to do so, are worth only a fraction of a Tesla. Tesla is very close and on a good path, to solve level 4 autonomy in some regions soon. In Europe with roughly the same price, you would be a fool to buy the BYD over the Tesla.

And it is not ripping off Tesla. The actual cells of the battery provide the structure (not a heavy pack case filled with rigid foam).

@@larryevans6739 yes, truly appreciate the “blade design” as it is used end to end for rigidity
