I did this to my Terrova three years ago, it not only worked and looked perfect then, it still looks and performs perfectly to this day. The only difference was that I didn’t use a router, I had access to a Bridgeport Mill.
I did the same transducer install but instead of routing out the shaft I took a dremmel tool with a grinding bit and shaved a flat spot along the transducer cable, then I expoxyed the flat side of the cable on the shaft. It works well and does not impede the motor operation.
Not much to add, but at the end when you untwist the wire. They do that to prevent interference. But if you are not using the us2 then it doesn't matter to much. Since you have to router it anyway, if you made a jig, could you not run it not in the channel and keep the lift assist? Great video!!

I wasn't worried about the warranty. I rather have the unit work the way I want it. So far, after a year, it's been working perfectly. Not had a single issue with it.
Sorry for the late reply. Once you take the lift assist off, original height adjuster does not have any notches on it to lock itself to the motor. If you don't buy those 2 parts, it's impossible to steer or have the spot lock work. New height adjuster has a half dome notch which marries to the other new part that fits into the motor. Hope that makes sense.
Nice job. This is a clean install. Lots of cobbled up fixes for this problem out there. Its bullshit that minnkota makes these to support humminbird ducers only and makes no kits to install other brand ducers. Im sure they have lost sales to this because i like things done right.
@@samboy5330 Just ordered the terrova without the built in transducer (I use Garmin as well) so I will be doing the same. But I'm wondering, since you too the lift assist off, does that mean that it will no longer have this feature? Thanks

Very informative! Thanks
The question I have is, how did you mount the transducer on the motor?
Thank you. Attached the transducer with a stainless steel Geer clamp to the bottom of the motor,. Its been 2+ years since and it works fantastic.

Well done video Sir, Thank You
You are welcome.
Did I miss the re-installation of the lift assist? Or did you not put it back on?
I left it off. No room to install it and it's still very easy to lift it without the lift assist.
So the retractable part does not have to for back on it , the part with the meatal strip that covered where you put the cable through ?
Correct. I don't miss it at all. It's just lift assist that takes some weight off when lifting it out of the water. Don't notice any difference.

Thats what I did in the video. I had to remove the lift assist. Otherwise, cable for the transducer wraps around in spot lock.
