Great job on all those models. Gone are the days when you went to your local Five & Ten store with a couple of dollars to buy a model kit. Those were the best times.
I still have some of the original aurora. monster kits that I built when they came out. I am now working on the Monster Scenes Aurora reissue snap kits by Moebius. I must admit that the box art was a great influence for me to get these. James Bama is a great artist. Also back then we just glued and painted them. No seam filling, airbrushing, or dry brushing. The first monster model kit made by Aurora was Frankenstein. in 1961.You did a great job on these.
I had those when I was a kid….parents went bonkers because they were so violent… they were like a dollar each… the reissues are so expensive… I only have one of them.
I built 10 of these when I was a kid in the 1960's. They suffered a lot of abuse and mishaps, and stayed in my mother's basement until she sold them in a garage sale. Videos like this make me think back and realize how many models I built during that time - so many. The Monsters, Monster Hot Rods, Weirdos, Hot Rods and Dragsters, Deal's Wheels, Apollo LEM, Star Trek Enterprise, 2001 Moon Bus. Amazing I didn't get brain damage from all that glue and paint thinner.
Most of the kits you have mentioned are now being re-released most from original molds. I encourage you to do them again. Many lost kits are being recreated by the magicians with these amazing 3-D printers. This is the best time to embrace the hobby and introduce it to young people. I still get a thrill when I complete a model and I enjoy the many positive comments I get from my videos. I see so many builders far better than me but always supportive with useful building ideas . I still have kits I hope to find and build again that I built when I was a kid.
I had them all as a kid in the 70s, and I’ve built/painted most of the reissues since. I bought my first Aurora monster kits (Godzilla and King Kong) at a K&B Drugstore here in New Orleans back in 1971. Then, there were the Monster Scenes series and the Prehistoric Scenes series, which were also fun! I wrote an article for Scary Monsters magazine called BE A MODEL CITIZEN, basically a tutorial about building and painting monster models.
@@Phil-r6k The first I recall building from Aurora was the Monster Scenes but those were not out long because parents thought they were too violent. World was a better place when kids were building monster models and not 24/7 with nose shoved in their phones.
These Aurora monster models will always be the best monster kits of all time because these models along with Famous Monsters Magazine really kicked off the whole MONSTER CRAZE that started in the early 60s and lasted through most of the 70s.
I can still remember those days! Great Video! Beautiful builds awesome kits! I like what Your doing! Thank You for sharing with Us here in tubeland! I am a NEW subscriber! Looking forward to the next video! Take Care, Be Safe, God Bless, Later
I had all of the Universal Monsters when I was a teenage kid, including the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Phantom of the Opera, and even Superman Aurora model. Unfortunately, I also had a BB gun rifle. The good thing, when my son was about 10 years old 30 years or so ago, I found the Aurora Mummy, Wolfman and Frankenstein models that my son and I made and painted together and I still have them today.
Good thing is that most have been released again and can be built again… all but the Superman kit has had recent release. I’ve done some twice… a few three times. I lost all my models from my youth but have almost redone them all… but there are a few I have not ever found again… but I’m always hoping.
I’m not that good … I have a few glow in the dark models… but I know I can’t build them properly… will be seams and cracks everywhere… paint and green putty hides a great many problems… I still have one Frankenstein Luminator… I got it on clearance have kept it all these years…
@@bmck-8400 I didn't build it as a glow in the dark. I sprayed a nice heavy coat of flat black and then started building color by drybrushing. I kind of wish I had a pic of it because it turned out pretty good. I ended up giving it away to one of my (pen and paper) gaming friends because it wasn't really something I was into. I think I got it from a bargain bin at Wally World or Rose's for a couple of bucks. You couldn't give them away in '93 lol. I just needed something to practice different hot knife techniques before attempting to retexture some 1/35 horse manes and tails.
I had the Frankenstein model also Dracula and The Wolfman and I still have King Kong and part of Godzilla! I also met Ricou Browning, at a Comic Book Convention about 15 years ago!
In the last year, I've returned to the models of my childhood. And those are those wonderful Aurora Models. I've collected them over the years and saved them for my retirement. I'm beginning with the monster rods. I've completed The Wolfman's Wagon. I wish I could show you a picture. It turned out nice. At present, I'm working on Frankenstein's Flivver. The car is done, and I'll soon be done with the Monster. Then it's on to The Mummy's Chariot. I also have the other three. Dracula's Dragster, King Kong's Thronester, caping that series off with Godzilla's Go Cart. The Creature from the Black Lagoon was left out, for some reason. I sure am enjoying these. They're looking so much better than the ones I did when I was six years old. lol. And I don't have to worry about my little brothers destroying them. You did a great job on these.
I have built four of the Monster Rods and they are all great. There is a very rare and hard to find Creature’s Crate garage kit from years ago. I have never actually seen one outside of pictures. Enjoy your builds… I still need to do the Mummy and Dracula hot rods. Thanks for your kind words.
@@bmck-8400 I wish I could show you mine. My Wolfman's Wagon came out great. And I finished Frankenstein's Flivver, which also turned out beautifully. Next, The Mummy's Chariot. I love these old kits. Thanks for making this video.
As a 72 year old sixties monster kid, Thanks for the memories.Built them all as a kid, Still modeling. Just did The Whitch.

Great job on all those models. Gone are the days when you went to your local Five & Ten store with a couple of dollars to buy a model kit. Those were the best times.
They look fantastic! It was always a hard choice whether to paint or use the glow in the dark!
Awesome builds!!

I was a kid in the 70s and had all these all the gadgets kids have today don't come close to how awesome these were.
The thrill of just getting them … no down load… you went to the store to get them … slowly over months maybe getting them all .

I built the Luninators version of the Wolfman back in the 90's. I spent about 8 hours retexturing the fur with a hot knife

Nice Models - can you tell me best glue or glues to use for the 60s Aurora models
@@jackclubs6919 I have never built any vintage Aurora kits so I’m not sure what glue would be best. Only glue I have ever used is Testors.
That version of The Mummy wasn't Boris Karloff it was the later versions when The Mummy was called Kharis
Thank you.. that is fun information to know.
I might have missed something, but are these your original models from the 1960's?
No… these are re-releases many times removed from the 60s.
