I’m 63 and just spent the last year revisiting these models by building them up again. Now with airbrush and fancy glue it’s a blast and the higher quality gives the adult in me a kick. Especially w new add on options you can retrofit to enhance the original. I’m building up the classic cars too that I had in early life. Fun stuff.
I had most of these when I was a kid. The Big Frankie model was my friend when I was young, went to parties with me and even went to college with me, he met a horrible death when I left him in the back glass of a hatch back Mustang on a long trip and he melted.
I remember seeing the movies in the seventies then went out and bought the Aurora kits I have since bought all of them again and did them properly this time round as a more skilled model maker.
We also watched the Universal Monster movies in the 70’s. So much fun as a kid. Never had the models but had the Remco toys which we also did a video about th-cam.com/video/RLYtxfWYP40/w-d-xo.html
I'm revisiting those wonderful models now. I just finished The Wolfman's Wagon. The first time I built this kit, I was 7 years old, or so. This version looks a lot better. lol.
@@1701ALLEN we put it in a TH-cam post also are you a member of our Facebook group, we have tons of posts from other collectors each days, it’s an awesome growing collectors group!
I remember I would walk to the Coronet 5 & 10 store with my $1 weekly allowance to buy the latest model for 98 cents. Only problem was the cashier was a snooty old turd and said there is 4 cents tax so the total is $1.02. She would not let me slide for that lousy 2 cents, my Mom would not give me a 2 cent increase on my allowance as that was the agreement. So I found out the grumpy cashiers day off and went on the day she was off. I still remember that prune face cashier to this day.🤷🏼♂️😂
I'm already a comic guy but I REALLY want to get into making monster models and collecting them. Is it better to build them or leave them in the box for display?
Actually Lovecraft wasn't a fan of the movie. "I haven’t been able to get around to any cinemas except “Frankenstein”-which vastly disappointed me. The book has been altered beyond recognition, & everything is toned down to an insufferable cheapness & relative tameness. I fear the cinema is no place to get horror-thrills!" -H. P. Lovecraft to J. Vernon Shea, 9 Dec 1931, Letters to J. Vernon Shea 85

That is an awesome way to not only rediscover a hobby but to improve on the original product. We would love to see them.
Thank you for this video.

This is great to hear, love these kind if stories. Two questions, did you ever replace Big Frankie and what degree did he earn in college?
Had most of them. My Older brother started our collection. 1966 Great memories. Would beg my mother to buy one. .98 cents.
Jim from Maryland
Jim thanks for sharing. Glad we could spark a happy memory. Thanks for watching
A fellow Marylander ! Man EVERYTHING about the 60s sounds AWESOME from the models to the comics & music sadly. Born in 1980 I missed out lol
We just missed it also, but had lots of 1970’s fun! Toys were great back then!
@@Collectorsconfessions lol. Yes I loved growing up in the 80s. Still have most of my toys still .
@JB-hl1qx Toys of the 80’s were great to! So many big toy lines then. Funny how most of them are being re-released now
Major aspect of my growing-up years. I still have the models, but how I wish I had kept the boxes, especially the long rectangular ones!
They were a lot of fun. Boxes would be great but it was so much fun putting them together.

Glad I’m not alone! Back then we grew older and used them for BB gun targets. Crazy. Now I’m buying display lights and building shelves.
Funny how we cherish the nostalgia of the past and take way better care of it than we did. Thanks for sharing the story we love hearing them

That is awesome! Glad to hear others are getting back into the things they loved during their childhood! Thanks for watching our video
@@Collectorsconfessions I only wish I could post a picture here of my, The Wolfman's Wagon. I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Glad you had a way around the fun police, sad someone really wanted to ruin it for only .02. Some people are just miserable

Honestly in our opinion we think it’s best to build them and then display them with the box. Which we feel is a piece of the art.
@@Collectorsconfessions thanks ! That was exactly what I was planning on doing I LOVE the boxes !
@JB-hl1qx so many people don’t realize how much work goes into the box and the art on them is awesome!
@@Collectorsconfessions Agreed!!

From what we read Lovecraft didn’t like about of things. Wonder how he would feel about the movies based on his material.
@@Collectorsconfessions Yeah I don't think he would like those. 🙂
@godofzombi maybe he’d like Carpenters “In the Mouth of Madness” which is more of a homage to his work.
@@Collectorsconfessions I was wondering about that too. But he'd probaly complain about not enough gambrel roofed houses in Hobb's end.
@godofzombi 🤣
