    I think of all of these, whilst you could probably call the 'birth' of Frankenstein's monster the most iconic, I think the Mummy's first appearance is the most powerful. Not a single look at the creature once the protagonist sees him, just hysterical laughter out of pure shock as a bandage disappears through the door...

      The original Mummy film had a genuine spooky feeling to it. I suppose it did move along a little slow, But the fact that it was made 90 years ago and can still entertain young and old alike to this very day, Really shows what good acting, excellent make up, And even more, A good story line can do to a film.

      While also sadly Hollywood would not be willing to put much money into their movies unless they are confident the public would be willing their hard earn money to something quite like this. But none the less a great idea. In my honest opinion sir

    • @warrenrhinerson6373
      @warrenrhinerson6373 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@a.jthomas6132 part of the problem is that book adaptations that are meant to be accurate to the book rarely come out well. In fact off the top my my head I can only think of a few films based on books that stuck close to the original novels, and turned out well. From Russia With Love, Thunderball, Goldfinger, On her majesty’s secret service, and Casino Royale. Frankenstein has been done so many times that keeping it close to the novel would not interest viewers as much as the original film did.

    I just loved the Univesal monster black and white movies. I own all the Legacy collections. They never showed the Invisible Man? I own that Legacy collection too. I wish the Dracula Legacy collection should have come with Mark of the Vampire. I know Bela Lugosi didn't play Dracula in the movie, but a vampire by the name of Count Mola. That would be a great movie too. Basically all the Legacy collections came with an Abbot and Costello comedy like Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein, the Mummy, or the Invisible Man. They are all great movies.
    All the black and white monster movies are masterpiece's. Karloff's Frankenstein is creepy just like the Bride of Frankenstein. Dracula is great. I just wish we got to see his vampire fangs once, but we never did which was lacked from the vampire movies too..They're all so dark and awesome. My congratulations to the makeup artists for their work on the films.

    • @robbarbieri8676
      @robbarbieri8676 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark of the Vampire was an MGM film so it couldn't be part of the collection. I believe it is actually a sound remake of the lost film, London after Midnight. Lugosi doesn't play an actual vampire in the film but an actor pretending to be a vampire as a plot device.

    Dracula should have been first since it was the first film made.

    Great video, there is one mistake though. The scene of Dracula meeting Renfield is not the first appearance of Dracula in the film. The count had disguised himself as his own coachman, obscuring his face, he's the one that actually drove Renfield to his castle just prior to this meeting. Also, although Dracula and Frankenstein were both released in 1931, Dracula was released first, So it's out of chronological order. I still loved it though...

      Good catch on the "coachman".

      I wouldn't say his face was obscured in the Bela Lugosi version.

    Many other studios have attempted to do their own versions of these Universal classics (ie Hammer Films), and IMHO all have failed.

    Never noticed when I was a kid that in the transformation scene Lon Chaney, Jr. goes from wearing a white sleeveless undershirt to wearing a dark, long-sleeved button-up shirt. Big gaffe that only took me fifty years to notice. I guess when Talbot transformed into the Wolfman he figured it might be chilly outside, so he threw on a warmer shirt. I also forgot that he sounded like a regular pet dog, too.

    Small connection mistake in the Wolfman. The werewolf quickly pulled a matching shirt over his undershirt before going out the door again ...

    the only WAY! to finally see these horror classics in color and free fans from this continuous b&w curse is to tell Universal Pictures
    to release their dark classic MONSTERS COLLECTION on Blu-Ray disc and DVD. ' IT'S ABOUT TIME '

    When Larry Talbot changes into the Wolf Man, he's wearing a wife beater and light colour pants, and when we next see him out on the moors he's wearing a Shirt and Dark coloured pants, Well obviously it's chilly out on those moors, so the Wolf Man stopped to change before he went on the Prowl

    Looking for a B&W era horror piece where a scientist tries to morph subjects into (something?) in fume filled tubs. The failed experiments are taken out and thrown into an alligator pool where they are eaten. In the final scene, a morphed subject throws the scientist to the gators, and a female protagonist convinces the morph (also female) to throw herself into the pond by noting how the scientist has rendered her macabre. Please message if you know the movie.
