  • The Body mass index (BMI) is the current criterion by which to distinguish ‘healthy’ from ‘unhealthy’ weight-not only in scientific literature but in popular discourse and media as well.
    First proposed as the ‘Quetelet Index’ in the 18th century, the formula was renamed as Body Mass Index in 1972. I have been repeatedly questioning the validity of BMI to be used on a single person, and so have many researchers worldwide. In fact, BMI formula was never even designed for individual diagnosis due to complex effects of age and sex in the mathematical determination of the value of the BMI and the poor precision of that value to predict health problems of an individual.

    बहुत अच्छी, तर्कसंगत जानकारी आपने दी है।आपको सब्सक्राइब कर लिया है।मेरी हाइट 6 फीट 6 इंच हैऔर वेट 90 KG है। एक्सरसाइज और प्राणायाम 2 घंटे 30 मिनट प्रतिदिन करता हूँ।इतने पर भी मैं पतला ही दिखता हूँ ,वेट बढाने पर परेशान था कि 95 वेट करने पर BMI मुझे मोटा घोषित कर देती।अब 100 पर ब्रेक लगाऊँगा।

    Really needed to hear this. I used to run 5-6 days a week for exercise and was generally fit. Yet when I went for annual medical checkup the doctor said that I should lose around 10 kg because I am overweight. Based on bmi. After 6 months i went to a different doctor who said the same thing. This time I argued that a bit and explained my general workout and diet. Then they recommended me to a nutritionist who suggested to go vegetarian. I lost all confidence after this and my workout has also suffered because I started following some of the silly suggestions like to not have bread or meat subconsciously.

      I'm so sorry for what you've gone through. I'm a bit obese but even if I wasn't, because of my muscular build, would still be considered overweight due to that stupid BMI.

    how can it catagorised our muscle mass by only weight and height......

      Diet won't help much if ur physical activity is not commensurate
      Human body is not made to sit and eat less but yo move more.and eat adequately

      We R Stupid can you help on that please it really helpful for all. Kindly make diet plans you know that’s the important part. Anyone can do the exercise but until unless diet thing will not sort, people will not achieve their goal neither they will be healthy. At least with your guidance people can break that rule which we follow blindly about Calories calculate using BMR. Will wait for your video.

    I fall into this stupidity. My bone density is more and muscular mass is large. I considered as obese in BMI calculation. Even if i starve 6 months i cannot match into this BMI criteria.
    1 Yoga lady is constantly chasing me to reduce more weight. The main problem is our Doctor community who accepts such stupidity. Thanx Sir for creating awareness and science based videos. I've purchased the ebook as well.

      Then u can do deadlifts
      But before that start with basic bent over rows and t bar rows to provide some basic loading on the back and then begin with deadlifts

      don't suddenly go heavy
      if ur lifting 60kgs
      just try to lift 2-5kg heavier every 1-2 weeks

    weight normally is 42kg(40kg minimum and 44 kg maximum),athletic looking body ,very minor curves
    height is 5''1
    i m always put in super underweight category when i jump around ,do all flexible yoga postures,run upstairs 3 floors without gasping for breath
    i look lik a runner
    what to do sir?

    I was doubting this method before because my weight is over according to bmi. But body fat is 13 and can do 100 burpees with 5km running
