So hypothetically someone could stake out the house / wait for you to leave / return to the geofence active area and sprint to the door to get in before you. But regardless that would only give them very little time to get in and you'd most likely see them trying to get in. But I guess if you don't see them and you get home and the lock doesn't open its a good indicator that someone got in before you. In that case back away I guess

This is a dumb idea. I’ve had times where my automations mistake me being out of the geofence. I’ve had august Auto Unlock minutes after I’ve already came in and locked it. I could see this having glitches where it triggers late after you’re inside.
@@chadmack1633 Now the question that could potentially solve this issue is setting how big the geofence radius is. From Jud's example it looked a little too large where the issue of someone sliding in before you could happen (no matter how unlikely that is). I wish we could get clarification on if you could set it the radius to just be at the edge of your driveway. Because that would solve all the issues. And that would make it handy for people who live in apartments or condos

The Level Touch is small, which is huge... ba-dum-bump 😉 One of the two main reasons I have stayed away from smart locks is because of the chunky size but I guess those days are gone now 🤗 I was really going to look into it until I saw you change the battery. Very cool battery concept really it wowed me but I was thinking wouldn’t the hollow bolt mean it’s easier to snap if someone tried smashing the door? I mean compared to a solid full mettle bolt? Edit: love ur vids btw nothing against u I’m just looking from a consumer and safety standpoint
If somebody wanted to get in and were determined they would regardless of the lock. He also has a security system so I’m pretty sure the alarm alone showily scare off the intruder.
Overall, it's all convenience. There isn't much additional safety to these over a good key lock. Anyone that wants to break in can just kick the door or break a window.
So it uses a RFID chip which can leave it vulnerable to some hackers, the battery is in the "dead bolt" which can leave it vulnerable to a couple of power tools within a few minutes, BUT at least it looks like a standard dead bolt so it's not a give away from a distance. 🤔 It's also only $329 which is reasonable for a good smart lock. I'd also wonder the radius of the geo fence, because that could affect security too. A finger print reader would've been better than a 90's lamp gimmick; even modern smart phones have those. 😅
@@megamanx466 That's why I went with the Lockly Secure Pro. It has a dedicated fingerprint reader, number code and physical key's. It also has geo fencing but I turned that off. You can assign guest pass codes and 1 time pass codes as well. It's also $50 dollars cheaper. Only drawback is, it's huge, but I honestly prefer that big lock look.
@@Tagsta84 I think it might be better for it to look like a normal lock from the outside and then inside it shouldn't matter. Sounds like you have a better lock though over all. As Truong Vo pointed out though, physical normal keys could be a vulnerability though.
He should ATLEAST switch out the screws that came with it/get some that are atleast 4inches/long enough to go into a stud. Also Medico has some smart locks that are actually grade 1/that also have pick protection,drill protection, ANYWAY ATLEAST replace the screws in the strike plate, with longer screws, IF you do nothing else, other wise all someone has to do, to get in, is baisicly touch the door, lightly, also replacing the strike plate, with even a strike plate thats slightly bigger/that has 4 screws in it, vs two, would help ALLOT, you would also need a hand chisel and a hammer, JUST to remove the access wood, needed for the strike plate, but thats easy, lay your strike plate down, where its going, and use a marker/pencil, to draw an outline around it, and then just chisel the rest of the wood out, ALSO make sure your deadbolt lines up with the hole as well, that alone would make a BIG difference, and you can get those for as little as 68¢, don't pay more than like $5 for that though, unless you get a whole kit/a huge strike plate, lock/pry protection plates, hinge protection and so on, thats like $80, for door armor or for something else you may can pay $20/$30 or something. Also a better grade lock/grade 1 lock, for deadbolt/lock durability, would be even better. Anyway your door may look secure, but if tiny screws are all thats in there, a 12 year old kid, could kick it open/it wouldn't take much force, AT ALL, to get through.

Jud, how does the lock work when say you and your wife leave the house separately and then you return and sometime later your wife returns and you’re in the house? Will her phone reactivate the touch sensitivity to unlock the door since she reinterred the geofence, or will she have to use the physical or app key to unlock the door because you’re home. Just curious. Great review BTW.
I would assume by giving access to other people when they enter the geofence it does unlock however that does leave a major security risk for them because someone could just touch it when one enters again and the other is gone

One good one that was raised is if you are in the 'geofence' but not at home quite yet, ANYBODY can just tap the lock and get in. E.g could be if you stick out in the car talking on the phone, you stop at a neighbors, you decide t go get mail before coming home All good examples where the lock would be ready to let whoever tap it to come in :(

Ideally they should work independently to help you out. You shouldn't have to use different items in conjunction to make another better, you don't get a net gain from all of that. Still don't like the "security" of it. Let's say you have a neighbor (who lives close enough) whose house you go over to *after* entering the geo-fence, but you didn't enter your home yet, someone could easily enter your home. You wouldn't even know. What are the chances of this happening? Probably slim, but it can still happen. Sure, anyone's home can be "broken" into, but I'd rather have physical signs of forced entry, this way I know if someone has tried or has successfully entered my home. I just think the entire geo-fencing security is flawed, in a big way. The geo-fence is spread over a wide area, and not just your physical property. Now if your home is somewhat secluded or far away enough from other's property, then I guess I'd be fine with it....? 🤷🏼♂️ Edit: As for the remote unlocking, with your home kit, there are hacks to use light and sound vibrations to trick home kits/Alexa/Google Home into performing functions. This is why most other smart locks won't allow you to unlock the door with voice commands, it's a security feature. They'll allow you to *lock* the door with voice commands, but *not* unlock. Edit 2: Also, the battery also being in the physical deadbolt? Now your "deadbolt" is hollow and the only other reinforcement is a battery, that is also hollow with acid and other weak internals. Sorry, but if you're going to accept sponsorships, please don't push trash products.
Sweet lock; may actually get one of those. So much better than the August. Although I’d recommend getting a larger strike plate and using longer screws (3.5 in), as well as longer screws on henge side.
So pretty much the deadbolt that is supposed to be my one line of defense against kick ins has been hollowed out and turned into the battery compartment? Big no no for me.

I wouldn't change the color. I like the black inside. It gives the entry character and I love the lock as well.

I just think the entire geo-fencing security is flawed, in a big way. The geo-fence is spread over a wide area, and not just your physical property. Now if your home is somewhat secluded or far away enough from other's property, then I guess I'd be fine with it....? 🤷🏼♂️
Edit: As for the remote unlocking, with your home kit, there are hacks to use light and sound vibrations to trick home kits/Alexa/Google Home into performing functions.
This is why most other smart locks won't allow you to unlock the door with voice commands, it's a security feature. They'll allow you to *lock* the door with voice commands, but *not* unlock.
Edit 2: Also, the battery also being in the physical deadbolt? Now your "deadbolt" is hollow and the only other reinforcement is a battery, that is also hollow with acid and other weak internals.

Sweet lock; may actually get one of those. So much better than the August. Although I’d recommend getting a larger strike plate and using longer screws (3.5 in), as well as longer screws on henge side.
