    • @chadmack1633

      That’s what I’m curious about.

    • @WiHL
      @WiHL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +76

      @@chadmack1633 They get in. Since the lock only cares about the first touch after entering the geofence. So hypothetically someone could stake out the house / wait for you to leave / return to the geofence active area and sprint to the door to get in before you. But regardless that would only give them very little time to get in and you'd most likely see them trying to get in. But I guess if you don't see them and you get home and the lock doesn't open its a good indicator that someone got in before you. In that case back away I guess

    • @chadmack1633
      @chadmack1633 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@WiHL yikes... and it’ll probably alert you on your device as well. But just the oversight of it all kind of concerns me... if I pull into my garage (which is on the side of my house) and have other things on my mind, I may miss that notification.

    • @Daboy804
      @Daboy804 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      This is a dumb idea. I’ve had times where my automations mistake me being out of the geofence. I’ve had august Auto Unlock minutes after I’ve already came in and locked it. I could see this having glitches where it triggers late after you’re inside.

    • @WiHL
      @WiHL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@chadmack1633 Now the question that could potentially solve this issue is setting how big the geofence radius is. From Jud's example it looked a little too large where the issue of someone sliding in before you could happen (no matter how unlikely that is). I wish we could get clarification on if you could set it the radius to just be at the edge of your driveway. Because that would solve all the issues. And that would make it handy for people who live in apartments or condos

    • @drink15

    • @megamanx466

      So it uses a RFID chip which can leave it vulnerable to some hackers, the battery is in the "dead bolt" which can leave it vulnerable to a couple of power tools within a few minutes, BUT at least it looks like a standard dead bolt so it's not a give away from a distance. 🤔
      It's also only $329 which is reasonable for a good smart lock. I'd also wonder the radius of the geo fence, because that could affect security too. A finger print reader would've been better than a 90's lamp gimmick; even modern smart phones have those. 😅

    • @Tagsta84
      @Tagsta84 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@megamanx466 That's why I went with the Lockly Secure Pro. It has a dedicated fingerprint reader, number code and physical key's. It also has geo fencing but I turned that off. You can assign guest pass codes and 1 time pass codes as well. It's also $50 dollars cheaper. Only drawback is, it's huge, but I honestly prefer that big lock look.

    • @megamanx466
      @megamanx466 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Tagsta84 I think it might be better for it to look like a normal lock from the outside and then inside it shouldn't matter. Sounds like you have a better lock though over all.
      As Truong Vo pointed out though, physical normal keys could be a vulnerability though.

      He should ATLEAST switch out the screws that came with it/get some that are atleast 4inches/long enough to go into a stud.
      Also Medico has some smart locks that are actually grade 1/that also have pick protection,drill protection, ANYWAY ATLEAST replace the screws in the strike plate, with longer screws, IF you do nothing else, other wise all someone has to do, to get in, is baisicly touch the door, lightly, also replacing the strike plate, with even a strike plate thats slightly bigger/that has 4 screws in it, vs two, would help ALLOT, you would also need a hand chisel and a hammer, JUST to remove the access wood, needed for the strike plate, but thats easy, lay your strike plate down, where its going, and use a marker/pencil, to draw an outline around it, and then just chisel the rest of the wood out, ALSO make sure your deadbolt lines up with the hole as well, that alone would make a BIG difference, and you can get those for as little as 68¢, don't pay more than like $5 for that though, unless you get a whole kit/a huge strike plate, lock/pry protection plates, hinge protection and so on, thats like $80, for door armor or for something else you may can pay $20/$30 or something.
      Also a better grade lock/grade 1 lock, for deadbolt/lock durability, would be even better.
      Anyway your door may look secure, but if tiny screws are all thats in there, a 12 year old kid, could kick it open/it wouldn't take much force, AT ALL, to get through.

    Its dope tech but there's a few red flags i need to know before i do that to my house

    • @phaldaz
      @phaldaz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      One good one that was raised is if you are in the 'geofence' but not at home quite yet, ANYBODY can just tap the lock and get in. E.g could be if you stick out in the car talking on the phone, you stop at a neighbors, you decide t go get mail before coming home
      All good examples where the lock would be ready to let whoever tap it to come in :(

    • @Sucram1975

      @@phaldaz true but if you have a home alarm that should resolve that issue right?

    • @phaldaz
      @phaldaz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sucram1975 Absolutely, it should deter that problem... My only issue with that is that in my head its almost like I am using an alarm system to 'better' my lock system. Ideally they should work independently to help you out. You shouldn't have to use different items in conjunction to make another better, you don't get a net gain from all of that. Its like taking 2 steps forward and 3 steps back haha

    Still don't like the "security" of it.
    Let's say you have a neighbor (who lives close enough) whose house you go over to *after* entering the geo-fence, but you didn't enter your home yet, someone could easily enter your home. You wouldn't even know.
    What are the chances of this happening? Probably slim, but it can still happen. Sure, anyone's home can be "broken" into, but I'd rather have physical signs of forced entry, this way I know if someone has tried or has successfully entered my home.
    I just think the entire geo-fencing security is flawed, in a big way. The geo-fence is spread over a wide area, and not just your physical property. Now if your home is somewhat secluded or far away enough from other's property, then I guess I'd be fine with it....? 🤷🏼‍♂️
    Edit: As for the remote unlocking, with your home kit, there are hacks to use light and sound vibrations to trick home kits/Alexa/Google Home into performing functions.
    This is why most other smart locks won't allow you to unlock the door with voice commands, it's a security feature. They'll allow you to *lock* the door with voice commands, but *not* unlock.
    Edit 2: Also, the battery also being in the physical deadbolt? Now your "deadbolt" is hollow and the only other reinforcement is a battery, that is also hollow with acid and other weak internals.
    Sorry, but if you're going to accept sponsorships, please don't push trash products.
