    I originally planned on using a Eufy lock as I have had others that I really like, but ran into a situation where I needed a lock that was similar to a normal lock (Eufy is bulky). Level Lock fit the size requirements I had and for the most part I am happy with the result.
    However the BIG NEGATIVE for the Touch model is the geofencing / home boundary requirement. It essentially requires someone to leave a 1/8 mile range of their lock to be able to return and use the touch feature to unlock. The boundary is way too large to be practical for short walks in the neighborhood, which is a more frequent scenario for my family than leaving. I am hoping an update will allow for a custom geofencing or the ability to disable it all together. It basically makes the touch feature useless for me.

    I’m thinking about getting one but how does the touch to lock work like does your phone need to be in proximity? Or is it like you said you need to set it to home mode and then you can do it whenever. Then the same with away mode (meaning you don’t need to be in close proximity)

    You can give access to specific people or give out passes in the app, how does that work? Are they able to open the lock with just their phone at that point? Do they need to have the app installed also?

    But the bolt is hollow. Seems like a solid shoulder thrust would fold it right over, or super simple to hack-saw through.
    I'm all in on smart locks, but every other smart lock has a traditional hardened bolt, and they have hardened bolts for a reason. This lock unfortunately seems like just security theater.

    • @pct87
      @pct87 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking the same thing. In all fairness, the vast majority of deadbolt doors can be broken into with a hard enough kick, but this seems a little too flimsy. Otherwise I love this thing. I just wish the battery itself was apart of the motor.

    • @xondeez757
      @xondeez757 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      you do realize that regular locks don't stop thieves eitehr way? and also this lock is probably smart enough to send you an alert once someone breaks in with force. so even if a thief came inside, you can just call the cops right away.

    • @Locke99GS
      @Locke99GS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xondeez757 regular locks with hardened bolts are pretty kick-resistant when paired with a reinforced door frame, and my houses had reinforced door frames and most of my buddies did as well. i don't feel this is rare or an unreasonable expectation when you're considering security devices.
      a smart lock cant send an alert when the battery that's inside of the bolt is crushed and ripped apart.
      if a thief comes inside, and you're home, the police won't get there in time, and its silly to think that police that are 10 minutes away could be of any benefit to you when the bad guy is _already_ inside your home with you. It is already too late. At this point you're forced to defend against the intruder on your own, whereas with a normal lock and a reinforced frame there's a solid chance the intruder would not be able to _so casually_ get through it and the bad guy would not have to get himself shot.
      this lock is security theater - it'd be best deployed indoors to keep your children out of the basement or something like that, where security is not necessarily required and convenience is more important.

All controls and notifications will come from my Ring App. Luckily I live in a secured gated community and don't need to worry about hardened locks, solid deadbolts, opportunisitic thieves - just need ease of entry. @Aidan Bhuiyan let’s be honest, deadbolts are over built for their frame (the door) let alone the door frame.
      Besides that, anyone whose breached or trained to breach a door knows to go after the hinge locations. Much weaker than the deadbolt.
      Meanwhile many people make snide comments that simply don’t hold water. If you want to take a conventional front door through its paces worry more about upgrading your other hardware before any downgrading of the deadbolt.

      bolt strength: 1350 lb-f side load
      bolt impact: 2 blows of 148 ft-lb (200 joules)
      bolt saw: 5 minutes @ 5 lb-f

      Was waiting for this comment. Level says that the bolt has been tested for durability.
      ANSI Grade 1, or ANSI Grade A, is the American National Standards Institute’s specification for the strongest, most secure deadbolt lock.
      Level Bolt and Level Touch meet this standard.
      In case you’re interested, this means the lock passes a number of tests, including:
      bolt strength: 1350 lb-f side load
      bolt impact: 2 blows of 148 ft-lb (200 joules)
      bolt saw: 5 minutes @ 5 lb-f
      bolt compressive load: 150 lb-f
      250,000 cycles
      slam test: 10,000 cycles
      ESD (electrostatic discharge): Level 4

    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

    Sleek enviable design, no doubt!
    So..you step out early to go for a run.. you forgot your phone and you are running so you never carry your wallet (nfc card). You're not a luddite with things "smart" and the whole idea of getting smartlocks was so that you can ditch the key, so you've long ditched the key (either in your house somewheres or in your car, but certainly not on your person). So... How'd ya get back in when you discover you've forgotten your phone (or that your phone is dead because for some unexplainable reason you forgot to place in on the charger last nite)?
    This is not an outlandish scenario. Happened to people I know.
    Or.. Or..
    You have the autolock set because its a great idea in case you forget to specifically lock the deadbolt when you generally leave the house, only this time you are already home but just taking your trash cans to the curb down a long driveway before turning in for the night.. I do this and never have my phone on me.. I mean, why would I? So, for sense and security-sake I pull my door close as I take the trashcans to the curb, and for whatever reason take too long and the door locks with you on the outside. Or, if I leave the door open (and I dont), the wind or the dog might bump it closed, the time elapsed and the door locks.
    Hmm..
    We applaud the smartlock because it enables us to leave our keys behind, but this one still demands you be in possession of its substitute in order to operate it; your smartphone or the key-card. What's so especially freeing about those that they usurp the key? Really? Just the ability to declare you no longer carry a key-- An object both physically smaller and/or lighter than what you are now required to carry in its stead?
    This needs an additional biometric feature to make a complete solution IMO to be truly free from carrying a "key" to unlock the door.
    If I were constrained to one option to use for a lock; smartphone bluetooth w/ associated app, nfc card, security pin, traditional key, biometric. My first choice would be biometric.
